Very good personal and nursing care and friendly staff. My room was well equipped and I much valued access to the back garden with its view of the trees in the park. My only reservation was that the food was somewhat bland.

My mother was at Galsworthy for a few months before we recently moved her to a different care home. There were many reasons for leaving including not being kept informed about significant changes in her weight and not being kept informed about significant changes to her medication. When she was moved to a different room in the home there were health and safety issues with the new room which I had to inform the management about together with photos. There were so many other things, it was hard work there. In the new home, things are completely different. We are very happy with the high standard of care she is now receiving, we are always kept informed of any changes and we have confidence in the home and the management.

We’re sorry that your mother had this experience as this is not in line with the kind of positive feedback we usually receive. The wellbeing of the people in our care is our highest priority and we have passed your comments on to the team so that improvements can be made.

My Auntie has been a resident with you for the past 15 months, she celebrated her 98th birthday with you in December, with the staff presenting her with a cake and singing happy birthday to her, which was a very nice touch. We are very happy with the home and the amazing staff who are always friendly and happy to give us time for a chat. My Auntie is safe and well cared for and we trust the staff with her care. Communication in the form of newsletters, emails and occasional phone calls is very good. Policy regarding Covid and use of PPE has been communicated very well and has been sensible and proportionate. She enjoys the food and the chef provides her with a fish dish 2 or 3 times a week as this is her favourite, which is a nice touch. The one disappointment we do have is that her room is very small and rather claustrophobic.

Reply from Home Manager, at Galsworthy House

Thank you for your kind words, James. We loved celebrating your auntie’s 98th birthday! We strive to create a warm and welcoming environment for all residents and we are pleased to hear that you are happy with your auntie’s home. My father spent four years at Galsworthy House. He suffered from Parkinson's and dementia and we chose Galsworthy House because of its specialist care and facilities. He was very happy at Galsworthy and was treated with dignity and respect by all the staff. Where he was able to, he participated in lots of activities including live music, arts and crafts and visits from local school children. He really considered it as his home and was happy and settled. I was always greeted very warmly by the staff and was encouraged to join in events and to interact with the other residents. I enjoyed my visits very much and was always confident that he was receiving the best care. Covid-19 proved a challenging time for everyone but everyone managed an extremely difficult situation very well.

My friend was very happy to stay at Galsworthy House. She was staying there for a number of years for respite, and then at the begging of last year, she decided to stay permanently.
She (and myself) like the place very much. It is a beautiful building and garden with a lot of space to move around. Very nice, professional carers and nurses.
My friend likes the choices of food and activities. Lovely atmosphere like at home.
The manageress of the house is very helpful and always has time to answer any questions regarding everyday life in the house.
Some examples - are live music, art, exercises, library, school children visits, outdoor tea, bingo, hairdresser etc.
I was visiting my friend every day and spent a lot of time in Galsworthy House, and I can

recommend this lovely, pleasant place to stay for respite or permanently to feel at home.

Considering that the majority of my mother's stay at Galsworthy House Nursing Home was during the pandemic lockdowns, I believe she was treated with great respect and tenderness. She needed a lot of attention towards the end and she certainly got the best that could be given.

On a personal note, I found the staff to be very kind and friendly. They were fun too and lots of activities were put on for the residents. What a lovely bunch!

My mum was at Galsworthy for about a year. She had Alzheimer's. Galsworthy gave her the sense that she was on holiday which was very comforting to us. The setting is lovely. She had a room that looked out onto a courtyard. The most important was how the staff made her feel. She felt loved and cared for. As a family, we were able to visit at any time. Galsworthy House Nursing Home is able to adjust to each person and encourages each person to do as much or little as they are comfortable with.
The staff were able to adjust to Mum's declining health and changing moods with patience and compassion. As she got worse they were able to facilitate the medical care in hospital as she needed.

Most importantly the staff were able to respect our family's wishes and she was able to die in Galsworthy and not in the hospital. We are most grateful to the staff for what they gave our mum at the end of her life.

Reply from Home Manager, at Galsworthy House

On behalf of the Galsworthy House team, we would like to thank you for your positive feedback. Really good to hear that we made your mum's stay comfortable and she felt loved and cared for. My mother was a resident at Galsworthy House Nursing Home for a year. In that time I had no regrets that it was the right place for Mum. I understood what the word care in care home truly meant.
All the staff were friendly, caring, kind and professional.
If I had any concerns about Mum I was always able to discuss any issues and they were addressed.
Mum made friends and if she was having a bad day the staff knew how to be around her.
I was very grateful when Mum needed help with all her personal care that she was treated with dignity.

As a family we were made to feel very welcome and walking or sitting in the walled garden was a real attraction for choosing Galsworthy.

To move anyone out of their beloved family home of many years is always a difficult step, yet it is made so much easier if the care home is as beautiful as Galsworthy. It has more of a feeling of a small pretty stately home hotel than a care home. The food is good and caters to individual preferences. The dining room is very pleasant and there are several bright and beautifully furnished rooms for various activities for which there is a daily choice.

However Galsworthy is much more than a high-quality residence, it is a care home and it was during the last year of my mother's life, that I learnt to appreciate the word care in care home. She was truly cared for, loved and appreciated. The staff and management are totally professional and dedicated to the people in their care. It is at that point you think of it as "home", which is all you want for yourself or, in my case, for the loved one I placed in their loving and capable care.

My mother was cared for by the very caring team at Galsworthy House. We chose Galsworthy because of the beautiful surroundings and the feeling we had from meeting with the manager and staff. It does not feel like an institution, but an elegant loving home. Our mother was so very well taken care of by the staff. She loved her room with its French windows out to the elegant walled garden. We really appreciated that the management was willing to help us find ways to personalise her room, make our mother feel at home and accommodate our wishes. We worked together to find ways to make our mother feel at home and secure and well taken care of. The staff were very kind to us, the family, and helped us with Facetime videos and special requests. Our mother quickly became a treasured guest at Galsworthy and our family was welcomed too. The manager is wise and kind and flexible and took all of our requests seriously. Covid had a big impact on the level of activities and restricted some options.

Highly recommended. Situated only 300 yards from an entrance to a park, Galsworthy House Care Home is an imposing mid-19th century building once the home of a famous novelist. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, with ensuite facilities, many of them opening onto a delightful tree-lined terrace.

The staff are, without exception, kind, caring and considerate, being flexible and accommodating in meeting the resident's needs. The food is good, again with flexibility to individual tastes and preferences. This is an excellent place in which to recover.

Dad lived at Galsworthy for a few years, over time his dementia got worse, but the staff always treated him with dignity and patience. Galsworthy is a beautiful building with loads of nice features and a big garden. Visiting was very difficult with Covid but the staff and management made sure that Mum was with him as much as possible in the last few weeks. They even allowed the priest to come which was very important to my parents. Mum said that if she needs to go to a care home she wants to be at Galsworthy.

Mum moved to Galsworthy in November 2021. She wasn't keen on moving to a nursing home but was no longer able to manage at home. Galsworthy has been wonderful in helping to facilitate her move there from the hospital and providing a warm, caring and stimulating environment which has helped her settle in well and much more rapidly than any of us imagined.

The house and gardens are lovely and her room is bright and relatively spacious. The communal areas are welcoming, fresh and very clean and the facilities are excellent. The best thing however is the very caring team - she really appreciates how kind the nurses and carers are. There is a fantastic, varied programme of activities (sadly recently disrupted due to Covid restrictions). The activities coordinator is wonderful - she encourages people to attend and make friends but if they can't or don't want to she provides support in their rooms. The management team work hard to create a special, caring environment and people are treated as individuals.
