  • Galsworthy House Nursing Home, Kingston upon Thames
Galsworthy House Nursing Home in Kingston Upon Thames provides the highest standards of residential, nursing and dementia care, including trial stays, short stays, convalescent care and permanent care for individuals or couples.

The stunning period property was formerly home to Sir John Galsworthy, the novelist and playwright who is most notably remembered for The Forsyte Saga, who the home is named for. The beautifully appointed bedrooms and elegant day rooms contribute to the distinctive atmosphere in the home. The home has a prime position on Kingston Hill, where it enjoys wonderful views over Richmond Park, the largest Royal Park in London and home to various wild birds and animals including deer which can very often be seen walking around and being admired by the residents.

There are a variety of activities on a daily basis designed to keep residents mentally, physically and socially active so they can get involved in as much or as little as they like. The team love learning as much as they can about the residents so that their time is tailored to their individual needs and interests.

My friend was very happy to stay at Galsworthy House. She was staying there for a number of years for respite, and then at the begging of last year, she decided to stay permanently.
She (and myself) like the place very much. It is a beautiful building and garden with a lot of space to move around.
Very nice, professional carers and nurses.
My friend likes the choices of food and activities. Lovely atmosphere like at home.
The manageress of the house is very helpful and always has time to answer any questions regarding everyday life in the house.
Some examples - are live music, art, exercises, library, school children visits, outdoor tea, bingo, hairdresser etc.
I was visiting my friend every day and spent a lot of time in Galsworthy House, and I can
recommend this lovely, pleasant place to stay for respite or permanently to feel at home.

Considering that the majority of my mother's stay at Galsworthy House Nursing Home was during the pandemic lockdowns, I believe she was treated with great respect and tenderness. She needed a lot of attention towards the end and she certainly got the best that could be given.
On a personal note, I
found the staff to be very kind and friendly. They were fun too and lots of activities were put on for the residents. What a lovely bunch!

My mum was at Galsworthy for about a year. She had Alzheimer's. Galsworthy gave her the sense that she was on holiday which was very comforting to us. The setting is lovely. She had a room that looked out onto a courtyard. The most important was how the staff made her feel. She felt loved and cared
for. As a family, we were able to visit at any time. Galsworthy House Nursing Home is able to adjust to each person and encourages each person to do as much or little as they are comfortable with.
The staff were able to adjust to Mum's declining health and changing moods with patience and compassion. As she got worse they were able to facilitate the medical care in hospital as she needed.
Most importantly the staff were able to respect our family's wishes and she was able to die in Galsworthy and not in the hospital. We are most grateful to the staff for what they gave our mum at the end of her life.
Reply from Home Manager at Galsworthy House Nursing HomeOn behalf of the Galsworthy House team, we would like to thank you for your positive feedback. Really good to hear that we made your mum's stay comfortable and she felt loved and cared for. We hope we made her stay with us as relaxed as possible and would like to pass on our condolences on hearing of her passing. Your feedback will be shared with the team.

My mother was a resident at Galsworthy House Nursing Home for a year. In that time I had no regrets that it was the right place for Mum. I understood what the word care in care home truly meant.
All the staff were friendly, caring, kind and professional.
If I had any concerns about Mum I was always
able to discuss any issues and they were addressed.
Mum made friends and if she was having a bad day the staff knew how to be around her.
I was very grateful when Mum needed help with all her personal care that she was treated with dignity.
As a family we were made to feel very welcome and walking or sitting in the walled garden was a real attraction for choosing Galsworthy.
Reply from Home Manager at Galsworthy House Nursing HomeThank you for your kind and warm comments, Sandra. To hear that our home presented as being friendly, caring, kind and professional is a huge complement to our home and staff. I will pass on your lovely feedback to the team.

My mother was cared for by the very caring team at Galsworthy House. We chose Galsworthy because of the beautiful surroundings and the feeling we had from meeting with the manager and staff. It does not feel like an institution, but an elegant loving home. Our mother was so very well taken care of by
the staff. She loved her room with its French windows out to the elegant walled garden. We really appreciated that the management was willing to help us find ways to personalise her room, make our mother feel at home and accommodate our wishes. We worked together to find ways to make our mother feel at home and secure and well taken care of. The staff were very kind to us, the family, and helped us with Facetime videos and special requests. Our mother quickly became a treasured guest at Galsworthy and our family was welcomed too. The manager is wise and kind and flexible and took all of our requests seriously. Covid had a big impact on the level of activities and restricted some options.
Reply from Home Manager at Galsworthy House Nursing HomeOn behalf of the Galsworthy House team, we would like to thank you for your positive feedback about our staff and home. Our staff work hard to deliver high standards of quality care at all times. We hope we made her stay with us comfortable - your mother was certainly a treasured guest. To move anyone out of their beloved family home of many years is always a difficult step, yet it is made so much easier if the care home is as beautiful as Galsworthy. It has more of a feeling of a small pretty stately home hotel than a care home. The food is good and caters to individual preferences.
The dining room is very pleasant and there are several bright and beautifully furnished rooms for various activities for which there is a daily choice.
However Galsworthy is much more than a high-quality residence, it is a care home and it was during the last year of my mother's life, that I learnt to appreciate the word care in care home. She was truly cared for, loved and appreciated. The staff and management are totally professional and dedicated to the people in their care. It is at that point you think of it as "home", which is all you want for yourself or, in my case, for the loved one I placed in their loving and capable care.
Reply from Home Manager at Galsworthy House Nursing HomeThank you for your kind words and recognition of the team at Galsworthy House. We are really sorry for your loss and we hope we made your mother's last year with us as peaceful as possible. Your comments will be passed on to the team.

Highly recommended. Situated only 300 yards from an entrance to a park, Galsworthy House Care Home is an imposing mid-19th century building once the home of a famous novelist. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, with ensuite facilities, many of them opening onto a delightful tree-lined terrace.
The
staff are, without exception, kind, caring and considerate, being flexible and accommodating in meeting the resident's needs. The food is good, again with flexibility to individual tastes and preferences. This is an excellent place in which to recover.

Visited my uncle today at the care home for the first time. I must say I was very impressed and happy to see the care and service he receives from all the staff there. Had a nice cup of coffee with him in the cafe. The atmosphere was so nice and relaxed. He is definitely happy here. Also, there was
a singer performing.

Dad lived at Galsworthy for a few years, over time his dementia got worse, but the staff always treated him with dignity and patience. Galsworthy is a beautiful building with loads of nice features and a big garden. Visiting was very difficult with Covid but the staff and management made sure that Mum
was with him as much as possible in the last few weeks. They even allowed the priest to come which was very important to my parents. Mum said that if she needs to go to a care home she wants to be at Galsworthy.

Mum moved to Galsworthy in November 2021. She wasn't keen on moving to a nursing home but was no longer able to manage at home. Galsworthy has been wonderful in helping to facilitate her move there from the hospital and providing a warm, caring and stimulating environment which has helped her settle
in well and much more rapidly than any of us imagined.
The house and gardens are lovely and her room is bright and relatively spacious. The communal areas are welcoming, fresh and very clean and the facilities are excellent. The best thing however is the very caring team - she really appreciates how kind the nurses and carers are. There is a fantastic, varied programme of activities (sadly recently disrupted due to Covid restrictions). The activities coordinator is wonderful - she encourages people to attend and make friends but if they can't or don't want to she provides support in their rooms. The management team work hard to create a special, caring environment and people are treated as individuals.

My mother has been very well cared for at Galsworthy. She has been here for nearly 5 years and in that time I have felt confident that her welfare has been very well provided for. It is a clean and well run nursing home and I'm very happy that she is receiving the care she needs. It has given us as
a family great reassurance as she is very vulnerable and frail.

Mum, who has end-stage dementia and is unable to communicate or do anything independently, seems very well cared for. She is calm, peaceful, clean and her skin moistured, her hair brushed. Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.625)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.625) out of 10 for Galsworthy House Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 28 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 28 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.625 for Galsworthy House Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (219 Excellents x 5) + (97 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 328 Ratings = 4.625
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Galsworthy House Nursing Home is based on 28 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 72 registered maximum number of service users is 14.4, which has been reached with 28 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
