Unfortunately my Dad was only in Sidcup Care Home for a very short time.
I would like to thank the Nurses, Carers and all other staff for their professionalism and care given to Dad and the attention they gave to myself, husband and family.

I can't recommend this home enough.

Overall Experience

After my mothers stroke and hospital stay, the Sidcup care home was selected because it was close to her flat, her church, her friends and other familiar haunts. We hoped that access to these would aid her recovery. It soon became clear that she was no longer the person she had been and the Sidcup would now be her new home.

The home had great facilities and I was pleased that my mother got a ground-floor room, over-looking the garden. The staff were very helpful and considerate, delivering the best service they could, sometimes under difficult circumstances. The menu's provided plenty of choice and tea and biscuits were always on tap, even for family and friends visiting.

The management were good at keeping the family informed of any developments and always took our concerns seriously. As many of the family lived some distance away, the (free) on-site car-park was really appreciated.

No-one ever really wants to end their days in a care home, but the Sidcup did its best for my mum.

Overall Experience

This review is based on my limited experience of two previous care homes not BUPA) that my wife resided at for two very short respite periods. Without doubt I was well satisfied with my overall experience compared to the standards that existed at those homes. On the downside I thought that at times some staff could have carried out their duties with much more diligence. On the other hand, pleasingly, there were staff who far exceeded my expectations. One of my niggles is that no real effort was made to make her room homely. Also, from time to time I was left asking myself the reason why no attempt to address her concerns about things that had not been done or needed to be done. For example, in regard to the latter, on one occasion my wife tried to indicate to me (she could not speak) that a tooth that had been bridged had come out. I could not make head or tail of what happened and just left it at that. However, on a subsequent visit, whilst in her bathroom, I found that tooth in a tray. No mention whatsoever had been made to me of the occurrence.

My husband spent 5 weeks in Sidcup Care Home. He went there for palliative care after suffering from a brain tumour. I cannot speak highly enough of the care he was given during those 5 weeks. Every need was taken care of and although I visited at different times each day, I never found him unkempt in anyway. They were very attentive as he grew weaker and I have nothing but praise to all concerned.

Overall a good experience as my mum enjoyed her respite. Her room was clean + spacious with en-suite shower. Activities were daily and fairly well attended. Mum really enjoyed her meals that were served in the restaurant. They were varied with plenty of choice. I was disappointed on the level of nursing care on her legs, as limited care appeared to be given and on departure I took mum to A&E and she is still in hospital. (at least 10 days) and counting. Feedback to Care Home has been given. The staff were very friendly and appeared to enjoy their jobs at Sidcup Care Home.

The Sidcup provides a calm and welcoming environment and each day is relaxing and well-structured. There is a range of activities every day (encouraging both physical and cognitive development of residents). Those residents who are less able to move around outside their rooms have regular visits from staff who invariably demonstrate empathy, kindness and positivity. Overall the staff represent the Care Home's main asset, many of them worth their weight in precious minerals.

Mum was admitted in March 2025. Because of health issues, she does not deal with a change of environment, but the team have been great with assisting her and making sure she is settled and comfortable. She is slowly growing in confidence and joining in the daily activities thanks to their commitment.
