Hungerford Care Home provides general nursing care and more focused nursing care for residents living with dementia.

Situated in rural Berkshire on the outskirts of the historic market town of Hungerford, the home has extensive grounds and gardens with a rose garden and an orchard, where wildlife can frequently be spotted.

The home offers a range of onsite facilities and services, including hairdressing, aromatherapy, and chiropody, while the dementia wing has a multi-sensory room.

Residents can eat tasty and nutritious meals, which are freshly cooked by onsite chefs, in the communal dining room or privately in their own rooms if they wish to do so. Residents are welcome to offer input to menu ideas, with a Residents’ Food Committee meeting quarterly to provide them with the opportunity to do this.

The home’s activities coordinator provides residents with a detailed recreation programme to ensure they are engaged and occupied throughout their time at Hungerford Care Home. These are organised with input from residents and relatives.

I am doing this on behalf of my husband, who has not been at the home long but seems to be settling in quite well. With his level of dementia, it is hard to tell how he is feeling.

Throughout the 7 years that my brother was resident at the Hungerford Care Home, he received excellent and loving care.
He viewed the home as his 'home', and the team were more like family to him.
I would highly recommend their home to anyone considering residential nursing care for a relative.

When my friend and I walked through the doors, we were greeted by a lovely, tall lady. The smile said it all, so nice and helpful. She showed us to my cousin. Everyone so helpful and kind. I know several of the carers. I used to come up to care home to visit some friends. We are so pleased for my cousin,
we feel so much better knowing she will be well looked after. Thank you all. See you in the new year.

My Mum has been a resident in the dementia unit at Hungerford Care home for several years now. She has always been treated with dignity, care and respect. I am so grateful to the wonderful carers, the nurses and other staff for the gentle way they treat her, as she continuew to decline. I can not praise

My brother has been a resident since early July this year. Every time I visit, he is clean and tidy, shaven and happy. We have visited when some of the animals visit, and the interaction of the residents with the animals is really lovely to see.

So great to have a bit of Christmas market there! The renovations are looking really good. The food was perfect. My only concern was that the room needed hoovering. I appreciate that all the works going on there could be the cause.

To entrust a dearly loved one to anyone but yourself takes a huge leap of faith and you just have to hope that you have found the right place when the person you love so much needs to go in to care.
Well, let me the be the one to reassure you, with the care team at Hungerford Care Home, you can set
your fears aside and be completely and utterly reassured your beloved is safe.
The Home is run at the highest levels of professionalism, with high levels of competence, structure and process. The staff - all of them, (from carers, to nurses to cleaners) are long serving and clearly get on, and they manage their extraordinary and relentless workload with compassion, kindness, and patience.
The Home itself is set in beautiful grounds, it is decorated to a high standard and the level of cleanliness is excellent, with constant activities for the residents to get involved in. The food is home cooked and delicious and truly, they are all a delight.
So happy I found them.

Hungerford nursing home has recently been taken over. The care has always been excellent and has remained so. The care and compassion shown to my friend has been remarkable. I am very grateful to all the staff for making her stay there so comfortable and she feels that they are (mostly!) her friends,
you can't like everyone.
The building has undergone a transformation and now looks fresh and clean. The grounds are beautiful and I look forward to taking my friend to sit in them in the summer.
I can highly recommend.

I was very impressed how quickly the manager arranged for my husband's admission to Hungerford Care Home from hospital after his stroke. Despite being confined to a wheelchair, he has settled in very well and enjoys being with others in the lounge and how particular the excellent activities that are
organised for all to enjoy. The staff are very friendly and caring, and despite his dementia & Alzheimer's, very accommodating and understanding to all his needs.
I am welcome to visit at any time, and he is lucky enough to have a lovely room overlooking the garden which is kept very neat & tidy. I would recommend Hungerford Care Home to all.

Very pleased how staff deal with mum and other residents on day to day basis. Whether it's just having a giggle or sitting with a resident who is having a 'bad day' , and the phenomenally fast response to a resident who has had an accident ! The staff are incredibly patient friendly and caring. Can't
thank them enough fir the job they are doing

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.745)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.745) out of 10 for Hungerford Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 33 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 33 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.745 for Hungerford Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (297 Excellents x 5) + (76 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 384 Ratings = 4.745
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hungerford Care Home is based on 33 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 59 registered maximum number of service users is 11.8, which has been reached with 33 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
