Hungerford Care Home provides general nursing care and more focused nursing care for residents living with dementia.

Situated in rural Berkshire on the outskirts of the historic market town of Hungerford, the home has extensive grounds and gardens with a rose garden and an orchard, where wildlife can frequently be spotted.

The home offers a range of onsite facilities and services, including hairdressing, aromatherapy, and chiropody, while the dementia wing has a multi-sensory room.

Residents can eat tasty and nutritious meals, which are freshly cooked by onsite chefs, in the communal dining room or privately in their own rooms if they wish to do so. Residents are welcome to offer input to menu ideas, with a Residents’ Food Committee meeting quarterly to provide them with the opportunity to do this.

The home’s activities coordinator provides residents with a detailed recreation programme to ensure they are engaged and occupied throughout their time at Hungerford Care Home. These are organised with input from residents and relatives.

Our mum has recently become a resident at the care home. We have found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. Mum has settled in very well. The home feels very welcoming and calm. We would highly recommend this home.

Having been first admitted on a temporary to discharge basis Dad was adamant he did not want to be in a care facility. Within a couple of days he loved it so much he wanted to stay permanently. We arranged for Mum to be transferred from her temporary facility and they are very happy. It is wonderful
and supportive. All staff are very helpful and incredibly caring. Staff are amazing with them both. The location and grounds are wonderful and the activities organised are being thoroughly enjoyed.

Beautiful and friendly care home.
Staff are always very kind and enthusiastic, and lovely activities are planned for residents.
Bathrooms/toilets could be cleaned better.
Overall, a wonderful care home.
Would be lovely to see Grandma in a chair in the communal areas more for a bit more stimulation
(even if she is snoozing most of the time).

A beautiful care home that is very well-kept inside and out. The staff are always very nice and always happy to help. The events and activities are very good, and I love following them on Facebook. I especially love the therapy ponies!
My relative's toilet is a little bit dirty and dusty.

Thank you to the wonderful staff at Hungerford care home who took care of my Mum so well. Due to the nature of her illness she was not the easiest person to care for, but the staff always treated her with kindness, understanding and respect. One nurse and the deputy manager, in particular, were always
so kind to her, and they were compassionate and supportive to us (her daughters), whilst also always being honest about her condition and state of mind, which is so important.
The only downside for me was that the garden for the dementia wing is not great and there weren't sufficient opportunities for my mum to be outside. Dementia sufferers are often restless and want to walk. It wouldn't be difficult to create a circular route around the garden to allow people like my mother to wander. And residents should be taken outside daily, which didn't seem to happen.

Thank you so must to all the staff at the care home. A special thanks to the manager and the wonderful nurse.
We had Nana in the home for her 2 final days. The help and care we got were amazing. I highly recommend this home they go above and beyond to make sure your loved one is feeling good, even
in a very difficult time.
They did not only look after Nana they also made sure the whole family was okay. It has now nearly been 2 weeks and I got a call from 2 days ago just to check in and Grandad had had the same.
We can not thank you enough for making this very difficult time as easy as possible.

The home provides very good specialist care for residents with dementia in a separate wing. In particular, there is a good range of activities including armchair volleyball, singing and art. @My mother particularly enjoyed a recent french day. A great deal of preparation had gone into the event which
could be seen in the photographs made available to the family.

My father has recently passed but had a fantastic stay at Hungerford Care Home while he was there I attempted to get him and others involved in the dementia safe garden. Julie Daley, the Home Manager at Hungerford, has over 20 years of experience in health and social care. Starting as a care assistant, she has steadily advanced to management roles, holding managerial positions for the past decade. Before Hungerford, she was the registered manager and operations manager at a residential mental health clinic for over four years. One of her proudest achievements is obtaining CQC registration for a new clinic and achieving top ratings in all areas during the first inspection.


Outside of work, Julie enjoys reading and spending time with her family. Her most significant personal achievement is raising a child with special needs and advocating for her quality of life.


Julie advises those seeking the right care home to thoroughly explore and connect with the staff and management to ensure a good fit. She finds great joy in leading her team to success and cherishes the family-like atmosphere at Hungerford.
