Hungerford Care Home provides general nursing care and more focused nursing care for residents living with dementia.

Situated in rural Berkshire on the outskirts of the historic market town of Hungerford, the home has extensive grounds and gardens with a rose garden and an orchard, where wildlife can frequently be spotted.

The home offers a range of onsite facilities and services, including hairdressing, aromatherapy, and chiropody, while the dementia wing has a multi-sensory room.

Residents can eat tasty and nutritious meals, which are freshly cooked by onsite chefs, in the communal dining room or privately in their own rooms if they wish to do so. Residents are welcome to offer input to menu ideas, with a Residents’ Food Committee meeting quarterly to provide them with the opportunity to do this.

The home’s activities coordinator provides residents with a detailed recreation programme to ensure they are engaged and occupied throughout their time at Hungerford Care Home. These are organised with input from residents and relatives.

There were so many activities laid on for the Christmas period. Children came in and sang and a Christmas party to name a few. The relatives were invited to Christmas dinner, and all residents were considered.

A stress free move for my Grandparents in law, with lots of support and reassurance from the friendly attentive staff at the care home they have settled in well. A real home from home, clean and tidy, the rooms are decorated nicely with nice furniture in place. Good home cooked food, a warm comfortable
place to call home.
The experience of looking around with the manager and having everything explained so we understood how it all worked and what to do put us at ease.
The care team are friendly and always have a smile, seeing our much loved family members looking clean, comfortable, warm and well fed reassured us that we made the right decision.

My father had been there for quite some time. He suffered with dementia and could be quite challenging. The staff were just wonderful and I could see his continued improvement which gave me such relief and confidence in his stay.
Sadly Dad had a stroke and was initially in hospital. However, I asked
if it was possible for him to return to Hungerford Care home to spend his last days there.
In his last days, the staff were completely marvellous and supported our whole family which was wonderful.
I would, without doubt, recommend Hungerford Care Home for anyone having to make this hard decision for their loved ones.

Hungerford Care Home is an Amazing place for anyone needing care.
My Aunt was given 11 weeks to live and she has just passed away, after 6 years of excellent care.
The staff are friendly and accommodating. They treat the residents with utmost respect and care and dignity. Nothing is too much trouble.
The
activities are varied and tailored to residents' needs and abilities. Food is excellent and housekeeping is too. All staff go above and beyond for their residents. More like a big family. We couldn't have asked for better these last 6 years. We are very grateful.

Our family couldn't be happier with the care our mum receives at Hungerford.
Everyone is so friendly and polite and nothing is too much trouble. When we visit on a Saturday we are always offered a tea or coffee.
They organise so many activities for the residents to enjoy. They have had afternoon
tea, pancake making, singing, games and gardening to name a few.
If mum is ever unwell we always get a call to let us know and they keep us informed of any changes.
We would highly recommend Hungerford if you are looking for a care home. The gardens are beautiful, overlooking fields and deer and pheasants can often be seen. There is secure entry so the residents are safe.

I can't say enough good things about Hungerford Care Home and the incredible care my mom has been receiving there. From the very first day, it's been clear that her safety and well-being are top priorities for everyone there. The staff here are simply amazing. They're always attentive and genuinely
caring, making sure my mom feels comfortable and secure. It's such a relief knowing she's in a place where people truly care about her.
The staff take the time to get to know her, understanding her likes and dislikes, and they always have a friendly word or a smile for her. It's these little touches that make such a big difference.
The care home is surrounded by beautiful, well-maintained gardens that provide a peaceful and relaxing environment. My mom enjoys sitting in the garden enjoying the fresh air and scenery.
Knowing that my mom is safe, well-cared for, and happy gives me such peace of mind.
Huge thanks to all the staff for making my mom feel at home and loved.

Under the new manager, the care home has been hugely uplifted in all areas. Staff have always been great, but now it appears even better with high standards of care and attention. My relative has always been happy here and I feel more at ease too with the more recent community feeling that there is
now.
Entertainment/daily activities are very good and everyone is included. Cleanliness is at a good standard.
With regular relative meetings, we know what's been happening behind the scenes and what's ahead and they are very open to suggestions.
It has a great feel to the home and nothing is too much trouble to put your mind at ease.
Would recommend anyone to take a look around to see for themselves.

Mom has been rushed into Hungerford Nursing Home as she was at high risk of a fall due to having Huntington's Disease. It’s an awful disease with no cure. The Nursing Home staff have gone way above to help my mother-in-law get her a room and settle in. The staff are simply fantastic. Everything is organised
and mom is so well looked after. Mom has told us she feels safe. Which is the reassurance one needs to hear. It’s a wonderful home with amazing entertainment, gardens to sit in and incredible staff. Everyone has a smile and nothing is too much trouble. It’s a huge change for anyone going through this situation and this Nursing Home delivers. Thank you so much.

My beautiful mum has Huntington's Disease and is wildly independent. It came to a point where Mum wasn’t safe anymore in her own flat. I called around a few nursing homes and talked with the manager at Hungerford Care Home and was instantly put at ease and invited to view the nursing home with Mum.
We went to see the home on the Saturday, Hungerford Nursing Home instantly gave me a warm feel, beautiful grounds, an old stately home and not clinical at all. On Monday Mum became very unsafe and I called the manager to ask if she could accommodate Mum if I could get the social funding in place. Within 3 days we had moved Mum into Hungerford Nursing Home and Mum is now safe and being looked after by the amazing staff there. Nothing is too much trouble and there is a wonderful sense of calm. We have been able to dress Mum's room up and say what Mum's routine is. We even had to write a story about mum's history so everyone could get to know her. I am now able to sleep at night knowing Mum is safe - thank you!

Our mum has been a resident for almost 2 years here. The 24/7 care is incredible, nursing team, carers, entertainment and housekeeping are brilliant. It's very reassuring for us that our mum is looked after, supported and encouraged on a daily basis. We are very lucky to be a part of this 'family' who
provide invaluable service in a calm and professional way.

Having been first admitted on a temporary to discharge basis Dad was adamant he did not want to be in a care facility. Within a couple of days he loved it so much he wanted to stay permanently. We arranged for Mum to be transferred from her temporary facility and they are very happy. It is wonderful
and supportive. All staff are very helpful and incredibly caring. Staff are amazing with them both. The location and grounds are wonderful and the activities organised are being thoroughly enjoyed.

Beautiful and friendly care home.
Staff are always very kind and enthusiastic, and lovely activities are planned for residents.
Bathrooms/toilets could be cleaned better.
Overall, a wonderful care home.
Would be lovely to see Grandma in a chair in the communal areas more for a bit more stimulation
(even if she is snoozing most of the time).

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.753)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.753) out of 10 for Hungerford Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 34 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 34 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.753 for Hungerford Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (309 Excellents x 5) + (76 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 396 Ratings = 4.753
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hungerford Care Home is based on 34 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 59 registered maximum number of service users is 11.8, which has been reached with 34 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
