Hungerford Care Home provides general nursing care and more focused nursing care for residents living with dementia.

Situated in rural Berkshire on the outskirts of the historic market town of Hungerford, the home has extensive grounds and gardens with a rose garden and an orchard, where wildlife can frequently be spotted.

The home offers a range of onsite facilities and services, including hairdressing, aromatherapy, and chiropody, while the dementia wing has a multi-sensory room.

Residents can eat tasty and nutritious meals, which are freshly cooked by onsite chefs, in the communal dining room or privately in their own rooms if they wish to do so. Residents are welcome to offer input to menu ideas, with a Residents’ Food Committee meeting quarterly to provide them with the opportunity to do this.

The home’s activities coordinator provides residents with a detailed recreation programme to ensure they are engaged and occupied throughout their time at Hungerford Care Home. These are organised with input from residents and relatives.

I was very pleased with the care that my mother received during her 3 years at Hungerford Care Home. All the nurses and carers seemed to have a really good understanding of my mother’s needs and concerns. I was particularly impressed with their efforts to keep my mother comfortable and encourage her
to eat and drink in the last few days of her life.

I visit Hungerford Care Home at least once a month to see one of my ex-neighbours. The home always looks so beautifully kept and the residents look well dressed and happy - the staff treat them with respect which does not always happen in residential homes.

My mother celebrated her 100th birthday on 28th July 2017. The staff at Hungerford Care Home, especially the activities coordinator made this occasion very special for her and her family.
Mum has reached this great age in part due to the wonderful care she has received at this care home.

Very impressed with the care, concern and visible friendship shown to the residents. It has a warm and non-institutional atmosphere.


The value for money I have marked as a comparison with other care homes I have visited but I do feel strongly about the imbalance between the self-funded residents

and the amount paid by local authorities for their funded residents. Of course, they have every right to the care. It is a national problem.

My nan has been living at Brighterkind since March 2017 after a fall at home after which she was hospitalised. Whilst in hospital she lost a lot of weight and was extremely depressed and kept saying she wanted to die, but since she has been living at Brighterkind she has made massive progress and put

Hungerford Care Home has an amazing atmosphere and staff with a great forward thinking attitude to care. The home itself is very modern with excellent facilities and great activities both groups and individual wish lists.


My mother started as a full body hoist patient and had lost a considerable

about of weight. Through good nutrition, personal care and medication, she is now back to a good, normal weight and is walking again. She has also settled very well and is happy and contented in her new surroundings.


Hungerford Care Home is outstanding and I would recommend is as excellent.

Although I have only been here for three days, my first impressions are that the care and accommodation for my father is of the highest quality.
I'm highly impressed with the diligent staff, their professionalism and duty of care.
My father is frail, vulnerable and ill, and it is comforting to know

This review is based on visits every few months as opposed to more frequent visits. The care home always make us feel very welcome and the staff are very friendly and helpful especially the reception staff, and the nursing staff are available to answer questions when necessary. The home is clean and
my brother in law says he enjoys the food. I was concerned that he, being bed bound, did not participate in the activities on offer but staff told me that he did and enjoyed interacting with other clients and staff.
I believe he is being very well cared for and his needs are being met.

All the staff are friendly and supportive. They take good care of my grandad. My grandad is very happy. Every time we visit him, he seems happier and he is always dancing. There are days when he is unwell but the staff make sure he is taking his medications on time and bring the doctors in if necessary.
The staff always give information about his weekly activities and they treat us like family. They give an excellent service.

The care shown to dad during his time at Hungerford Care Home was exemplary and we - as a family - were much comforted and reassured by the qualities shown by the staff - patient, empathetic and humane, we knew he was in very good hands.
Support of us was also very good - we were always kept informed
and received warmly whenever we visited.
Coping with a loved one with dementia is often difficult, stressful and emotional and Hungerford Care Home did everything possible to alleviate our suffering, as well as dad's.

I am very happy with this care home. The staff are kind, pleasant and competent. The rooms are nice and the grounds and gardens very pleasant. The only fault I have is that there are not enough car parking spaces.

My sister was resident in this home for 1 and a half years. Her care in the above home was exemplary. The staff were always kind and caring - both to my sister and our family. When my sister died, the staff at the home were very supportive - for which we are extremely grateful.

Before Hungerford, she was the registered manager and operations manager at a residential mental health clinic for over four years. One of her proudest achievements is obtaining CQC registration for a new clinic and achieving top ratings in all areas during the first inspection.
