St Mark’s, rated ‘outstanding’ in March 2019, is a purpose-built home welcoming adults in need of nursing, residential, dementia or palliative care. The home also offers short stays for those who are looking for a little respite or convalescence care as well as day care.

The home is split into four areas, made up of three nursing floors and a dedicated dementia area which is pleasant and modern, each with dining rooms and lounges.

A secure garden ensures that residents can make the most of good weather, too.

Residents are welcome to relax in any part of the home and can enjoy a little pampering in the hair salon, catch up with family over a drink in the bar or read a book in one of the quiet lounges.

The activity rooms are where residents can get creative, and there is a reminiscence room for rediscovering memories. There is a good-sized garden for anyone who wants to take a stroll and an enclosed sensory garden which is great for residents living with dementia.

Meals are made using fresh ingredients and residents can choose to eat in privacy or in dining rooms that overlook the gardens. Mid-morning hot drinks and homemade cake is also available.

Residents’ voices are woven into everything the home does, thanks to the resident and relative committee.

Residents can still do existing hobbies here and are welcome to suggest something different to try, as a group or on their own. Many activities are organised for mental and physical stimulation, including musical afternoons, arts and crafts and bingo. Movie afternoons are popular and there is a mobile library.

The staff have been very kind and helpful in every way. I have benefitted from my time here in my recovery from a broken femur. My only concern is that it is very noisy a times, particularly from other people's televisions and conversations. Also, other residents shouting and banging at night. The time
spent on the grounds was particularly enjoyable. Overall a good experience.

We attempt to visit every two weeks but only on a Sunday so are unable to comment on activities as we haven't seen any. In the early days of our visits, we noted that our relative was often unshaven with un-washed hair and in need of a manicure. However, this has improved in the last several months.
Some members of staff are particularly helpful when we visit for which we are very grateful.

Mum has been here now for 4 months and I have found the care team very welcoming and extremely professional, mum had suffered quite a lot of trauma before moving here and understandably will take a while to settle and recognise her situation so with the help of the care team and my family we will do

I can not put into words how much my family and I appreciate all the help and care given to our mum on a daily basis, she always appears happy and relaxed when we visit her. She will often say herself how lucky she feels to be where she is! We recently celebrated a great milestone birthday with mum,
which was a wonderful occasion, the staff on the Windsor unit couldn't have done more for us to make the day extra special. Many thanks to all of them.

When she was first admitted to St Mark's, we were all filled with dread as to how she would cope away from us all, but that fear changed to relief as we saw how she was treated. The staff from bottom to top all appeared to make it their main aim to make sure she quickly settled and became part of the
happy group of residents, nothing was too much trouble and the personal care she received was outstanding. the staff are excellent and always had time for us family members as well as their priority, the residents, completely recommended.

My mother is in the specialist dementia unit, where she has lived for 4.5 years. I am consistently impressed by the quality of nursing care, the attention to detail, the personal relationship the cares have with my mother and particularly the low turnover of staff which means that my mother's individual

From my very first visit to view the home, to the moving my mum in and the transition after 4 weeks in hospital, the Windsor Suite staff have supported both my mum and myself through this difficult time.
The staff are not only kind and caring, but bring lots of experience and knowledge to their roles.
Every time I visit I am very pleased with the care being given to Mum and all the other residents in this specialised unit. I am able to leave each visit knowing that she is being well cared for and this reduces my worry. The wonderful staff are friendly and caring with lots of smiles. Thank you all.

Mum has been in St Mark's since February 2021. Every time I visit I am impressed with the professionalism of the staff. The facilities are impressive and well-maintained. I would not hesitate to recommend St Mark's to anyone who is looking for the best care for their family.

Arrival yesterday was great as my stepdad was very worried but was relaxed when all the staff and management were so caring to him. This is our second time we have had to choose a care home and we were so pleased with the way my stepmother was treated at St Mark's we knew this was the place for my stepdad.
She was there with St Mark's for 18 months, it took time but she was so happy with all the care and love they shared so we did not look for another home, St Mark's was the best place for my stepdad.

My Mother has been a resident of St Mark’s Care Home for over a year. She transferred over from another care home where sadly she had been confined to her bedroom for three years. The change in her whole demeanour is startling. The amazing caregivers ensure she is assisted out of bed every day, washed,
fed and entertained. She has gone from being consistently aggressive to a calm, happy lady. She always smells amazing and gives me a bright smile when I visit. I’ll always be eternally grateful to the core carers based in the Windsor Unit, as their dedication to duty and sheer professionalism is outstanding. They always warmly greet me and go out of their way to make my visit comfortable. I’m no longer so anxious as I know she is safe, comfortable and extremely well cared for. Overall, I thoroughly recommend St Mark’s Care Home.

My father came into St Mark's in October 2023 after a fall at home and some time in hospital. He has slowly declined because of his fall, and as a family, we cannot thank the staff enough for their caring and empathetic way in which they care for him.

I can't praise the caring staff at St Mark's enough. They were caring, thoughtful and professional at all times. Dad was there until he sadly passed away in December, and the two weeks he was in hospital, the staff telephoned the hospital each day to see how he was. He was always clean and neatly dressed
and was very happy there. He could join in the activities he wanted to participate in or do his jigsaw puzzles in the comfort of the lounge, listening to his favourite music. It was a great worry off my mind knowing he was being cared for so well, and if any issues, they contacted me immediately. Also, they were very quick to call in the doctor when needed. He enjoyed being in the garden there, and on numerous occasions, I was present during the activities, both inside and outside. I was very pleased that I chose St Mark's Care Home for Dad to spend his last months as he couldn't be at home.

My mother was a resident at St Mark's throughout COVID and the home had a very tough time. It has now come out the other end and my mother's unit has an established team of staff who always appear happy and caring in their jobs.

The experience is heavily influenced by the staff doing the caring. The majority are exceptionally pleasant and supportive; however, there is a minority who are not so friendly. Issues do get addressed, but only after being persistent and following them through.

We removed our father within 4 weeks of admission.
The Outstanding CQC Report is belying.
Within 10 days of admission, my father sustained a “sweat sore”. He was admitted with unblemished skin.
The home operates “One Size Fits All”. There is no person-centred care. Family input was met with
animosity. Management was hostile.
Two DoLs assessments were instigated secretly depriving my father of his right to have someone important to him, present.
He was deprived use of his wheelchair. After 10 days of isolation, he suffered delusions. 1:1 activities were refused.
Equality and Diversity training is necessary. My mother is profoundly deaf and struggles to walk. They treated her appallingly.
We were berated by a carer “your father always wants the toilet when family visit at supper time”. On one occasion he waited an hour plus. At home, his carers visited at 4.30 pm.
After notifying the Manager that we were removing my father his response "you have to pay".

My mother was a resident of St Mark's Care Home for just over two years until she passed away just a few weeks ago. The love, care and kindness that all the teams of nurses, care, support and admin staff gave to my mum and to us as a family throughout all her stay at the home was amazing. These are
the most incredible and dedicated people who give everything and more to make each day count for every single resident. This was exemplified even more during the pandemic, as the staff did their utmost to allow essential communication between our mum and us as a family via phone calls, window visits and pod visits. They made sure that our loved ones could still hear or see us in some format, so critical when dealing with residents who suffer from varying degrees of Alzheimer's and dementia. We will never be able to say how grateful we are to St Mark's for looking after Mum so well when it was no longer possible for us to do that at our home anymore. Our heartfelt thanks go out to each and everyone at St Mark's Care Home.

I first joined BUPA in March 2021 as a care assistant and started this role in December 2021. I previously worked for a large finance company but decided to take the leap into the care sector- something I had always wanted to try.
