My father came into St Mark's in October 2023 after a fall at home and some time in hospital. He has slowly declined because of his fall, and as a family, we cannot thank the staff enough for their caring and empathetic way in which they care for him.

I can't praise the caring staff at St Mark's enough. They were caring, thoughtful and professional at all times. Dad was there until he sadly passed away in December, and the two weeks he was in hospital, the staff telephoned the hospital each day to see how he was. He was always clean and neatly dressed and was very happy there. He could join in the activities he wanted to participate in or do his jigsaw puzzles in the comfort of the lounge, listening to his favourite music. It was a great worry off my mind knowing he was being cared for so well, and if any issues, they contacted me immediately. Also, they were very quick to call in the doctor when needed. He enjoyed being in the garden there, and on numerous occasions, I was present during the activities, both inside and outside. I was very pleased that I chose St Mark's Care Home for Dad to spend his last months as he couldn't be at home.

My mother was a resident at St Mark's throughout COVID and the home had a very tough time. It has now come out the other end and my mother's unit has an established team of staff who always appear happy and caring in their jobs.

The experience is heavily influenced by the staff doing the caring. The majority are exceptionally pleasant and supportive; however, there is a minority who are not so friendly. Issues do get addressed, but only after being persistent and following them through.

We removed our father within 4 weeks of admission.
The Outstanding CQC Report is belying.
Within 10 days of admission, my father sustained a “sweat sore”. He was admitted with unblemished skin.
The home operates “One Size Fits All”. There is no person-centred care. Family input was met with animosity. Management was hostile.
Two DoLs assessments were instigated secretly depriving my father of his right to have someone important to him, present.
He was deprived use of his wheelchair. After 10 days of isolation, he suffered delusions. 1:1 activities were refused.
Equality and Diversity training is necessary. My mother is profoundly deaf and struggles to walk. They treated her appallingly.
We were berated by a carer “your father always wants the toilet when family visit at supper time”. On one occasion he waited an hour plus. At home, his carers visited at 4.30 pm.

After notifying the Manager that we were removing my father his response "you have to pay".

My mother was a resident of St Mark's Care Home for just over two years until she passed away just a few weeks ago. The love, care and kindness that all the teams of nurses, care, support and admin staff gave to my mum and to us as a family throughout all her stay at the home was amazing. These are the most incredible and dedicated people who give everything and more to make each day count for every single resident. This was exemplified even more during the pandemic, as the staff did their utmost to allow essential communication between our mum and us as a family via phone calls, window visits and pod visits. They made sure that our loved ones could still hear or see us in some format, so critical when dealing with residents who suffer from varying degrees of Alzheimer's and dementia. We will never be able to say how grateful we are to St Mark's for looking after Mum so well when it was no longer possible for us to do that at our home anymore. Our heartfelt thanks go out to each and everyone at St Mark's Care Home.

My experience using the care home has been very good. I visit my son on a daily bases. I was able to visit him during the lockdown and during the time, even when the visits had high cases of Covid because I was given the special privilege of being the main carer for my son. The staff have always been helpful and cooperative. The cleanliness of the place has been excellent. Safety and security have been good.

I have always found the staff to be very caring. My brother has been semi-conscious for many weeks, but I am convinced he is happy, peaceful and looked after 24 hours a day.

In the last week, I have been contacted twice by the attending doctor, who asked for my permission to have my brother put into the hospital. This, I refused (I have power of attorney) as I am convinced that at the closing stage of his life, he is better off with the loving care and attention of the staff at St Mark's.

Everyone of the staff was polite, kind and professional. The facilities and cleanliness were outstanding with every attention to detail. The quality of the food was five stars, both in the choices and quality. The medical was also exceptional and delivered with such understanding and professionalism. The gardens were lovely to sit in to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine. I was really impressed that, even my bed was extended to take my long body! Would I recommend St Mark's - 100 per cent!
