Dad has been a resident of St Mark's Care Home for eight months now, on the Windsor Unit, and we are so pleased with the care and attention he receives there. The nursing staff and assistants are so patient and kind, nothing is too much trouble and they are always smiling! We visit often and we are always warmly welcomed, but most importantly, we can leave knowing that dad will be safe and well looked after by a team of dedicated and hardworking staff.

My mother's needs are attended to, be they medical or otherwise. Despite being in a wheelchair she is regularly included in meals and activities outside of her room, giving her the social interaction that she needs.

My dad stayed at St Mark's while we were on holiday for 2 weeks respite.
He really enjoyed his stay, he was treated with dignity and respect and he managed to continue with his own routine.
Staff were available whenever he needed them as well as allowing him to remain independent where possible.

The food was really good and staff were kind and friendly.

As next of kin to a resident, I visit this home many times over the last months. I cannot stress too highly the excellent care he received. Everyone, cleaners, tea ladies, nurses etc. Were so helpful and friendly. I must mention the nursing sister on Henley Floor, that a lovely girl.

If anyone is looking for a home for a loved one, look no further. This one ticks all the boxes and then some!

My parents were both nearly 94 when they moved into the care home in 2014. My mother needed to be in the dementia unit and although my father's needs arose from physical frailty, the staff responded to the distress they experienced and cared wonderfully for them both together in the dementia wing until my father died 1 and a half years later. My mother continues to receive excellent care, with the staff enabling her to go most weeks to the church that is very nearby and to go on outings which she enjoys when possible. I always received a warm welcome from the staff when I visit and I have real peace of mind about my mother's care, especially as I can be confident of being informed promptly if she falls or needs medication.

I have never stayed din a care home before and I was very impressed with the respect and dignity showed to me. All the staff, without exception, have been good to me and I will tell often about this experience. The cleanliness is extremely good and the food was varied each day and was of a high standard. The meals were very tasty and were served hot where necessary. I go home feeling so much better and rested. Thank you to all.

Our mother who had Alzheimer's was a resident of St Marks Nursing Home and was on the Windsor Unit, the dementia ward for 18 months. We cannot thank the staff enough for the kindness, compassion and dignity they showed to our darling mum right up until she sadly passed away in January 2017. This was shown by all staff from management, carers, housekeeping and maintenance staff. A big thank you to them all.

Review from Veronica K (Daughter-in-law of Resident) published on 8 February 2017 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My mother-in-law was at St Mark's for nearly 2 years. Her brain was completely sharp until her last day, but she was unable to walk or transfer. She needed to be treated with respect and as a 'normal' human being. She was a perfectionist and had high standards. Staff in the Ascot Suite coped very well with her emotional needs, which were often more challenging than her physical ones. Although very busy, many staff became friends to her and to the family. I was there at least twice a week and could see how well run and caring it was. Any problems were usually connected with her frustration at not being mobile. Her main complaint was that staff didn't have time to sit with her for a long chat and that there was too much food! She chose not to attend activities but enjoyed giving Bible readings at the communion service. She enjoyed sitting in the well-maintained garden. We couldn't fault the way she and the family were looked after on the day she died, which was a very long day.

Overall Experience

The vast majority of the staff are exceptional - kind, respectful, efficient, warm and affectionate with patients. Really nice environment and garden. Always welcoming to family members and supportive of their concerns and anxieties. When it came to end of life, they were there in the background when we needed them but gave us privacy to spend our last hours together. Wonderfully sensitive.

I got the sense that many of them saw beyond the dementia to the person that my father had been. They never made a fuss when he got aggressive about personal care. Took it all in their stride and treated him with the utmost dignity and humanity.

Sometimes there was a lack of communication between GP, nurse and family, but otherwise good.

I put value for money "don't know" only because all care homes are cripplingly expensive.

A very efficient and friendly care home which inspires confidence at the outset. The accounts department is extremely well run and financial matters are very clearly explained. The nursing care is exemplary with full backup from the surgery. Not only did the resident (my mother) receive unlimited kindness and care, but we relatives were supported brilliantly at all times. The fact that animals are welcome visitors gave joy and added to the family atmosphere of the home.

My opinion is the standard of St Marks Care Home is very high and has not changed after two years of my Husband staying here.

The staff are on the whole usually very good, but there is sometimes (often at weekends) a shortage of staff or agency staff

I found all the staff charming and helpful. My resident friend, although he was very happy with St Marks at first, he became very difficult and unhappy. Personally I felt it was partially or mostly due to his inability to hear very much - he was profoundly deaf.
