My Father passed his final Years at Lord Harris Court in comfort and dignity.
The standard of care was very high and I was aware that there were continual reviews of my Father's needs.
Towards the end, as his needs changed more rapidly the home responded promptly to the changing circumstances and
I was never left uninformed or concerned about the care he was receiving.

As relatives, we only get one chance at choosing the right care for our loved ones. As I look back at the process at Lord Harris Court and feel very comfortable with the choice.

My father is being treated well and with dignity. The staff are excellent. I am very happy that my father, who is 101, is safe and secure here as I live in Canada.

My friend has been here since May 2017. I cannot fault the care given to my friend. Her husband passed away in 2016 after 63 years of marriage, this meant that my friend needed people around her who understand and care. She has been given a lot of support and love from all the staff. Her overall health
and well-being has improved since being here. My friend never faults the home, she only praises how good it is.

My mother suffered a stroke in 2009 and after a short period of hospitalisation, she moved to the Lord Harris Court Care Home. She spent 5 years in the Residential Wing and a further 3 years in the nursing wing before she recently passed away. It is always sad when a loved one can no longer live in
their own home but I feel we were extremely fortunate to secure a place in 2009 for Mum at Lord Harris Court.
Every aspect of Lord Harris Court is excellent with well trained and caring staff and pro-active management. There is a lot of varied press these days regarding care of the elderly but in my opinion, Lord Harris Court is outstanding in providing care for the elderly.

Lord Harris Court staff responded to a fall outside the home and came to stand by my father for hours while the ambulance came, outside their shift and duty, going above and beyond what is expected of them.
This demonstrates the care and heartfelt dedication of the staff, especially on Thames and Kennet
and especially one of the level 3 carers and one of the shift leaders.
The home manager also has transformed the home into an efficient home which responds to concerns, not just playing lip service.

Lord Harris Court treat me very well and with respect and a smile and do not talk down to me and are patient with my condition.
I am truly happy here.
The food could improve but that is being resolved in the capable hands of the home manager.
More staff to take residents to the hospital would be
great, but it is not a core remit of the home and would put costs up too high for the residents to hire more driving staff.
The staff work more hours that they have to due to their care and dedication.
With more full-time staff, quality of service is at its highest level!
Well done!

On each occasion we have visited Lord Harris Court there has always been a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. All the staff take time to stop and chat and nothing is too much trouble. Any questions we had were answered and information was always made available to us. We were impressed with the variety
of activities that are organised for the residents throughout the week and the different lounge areas for the residents to use.

My father has recently stayed at Lord Harris Court for a holiday and to help him decide if he is ready for a care home. We have found the staff, at all levels, considerate, polite and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble. When we have visited it has always been calm and cheerful. If he decides that
this will be his permanent home then I will be happy for him to move in.

My experience over 40 years as a Member, Committee Member and 16 years as Chairman of the Association of Friends of Lord Harris Court has given me insight to the operation and management of this fine care home.
The care and compassion shown to all residents by the management and staff enable them to
enjoy their stay be it short or long term is second to none.
I am confident that the future will continue with these ideals to the forefront.

Having been a volunteer in the home for almost all the time it has been open, I have seen many changes. I'm pleased to say that I'm very happy with all the services offered, particularly management and staff. Permanent staff seem to make a big difference in the home. I have a very close friend residing
in Lord Harris Court and it's lovely for me to see her so happy, comfortable and well looked after and with all future plans, I know this will continue.

Outstanding home. I was worried that Mum may not settle but every single staff member at LHC has made her feel so welcome from the moment she arrived. She's so happy there, has a great relationship with her carers who encourage her and involve in all the activities.
Can't recommend this home enough.
If you're a son/daughter and you're worried about placing mum or dad in care (as I was), don't be!! They'll be so well looked after and be having so much fun it will give them a new lease of life!!

The majority of residents are very happy with the home and well cared for. As in most cases food can never meet everyone's satisfaction but more recently this has improved.
Generally the home has improved dramatically in just over a year staff appear more content and very much engaged with residents
needs. The use of agency staff is significantly down on previous years, this is essential in meeting residents needs as consistent familiarity is essential.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.128)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.128) out of 10 for Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.750 for Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh Court is calculated as follows: ( (66 Excellents x 5) + (15 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 84 Ratings = 4.75
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.378 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh Court is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.6
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 45 registered maximum number of service users is 9. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 9 = 0.778
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
