I wish to say that the nursing care remains excellent. I could not have wanted better attention from the nurses who had much to deal with. Staff as always, friendly and attentive.
However this time the cleaning of the bathroom was poor and, worse, an infection on A's big toe, clearly visible, was not noticed for at least three days so I do not feel his personal care was sufficiently well done.

After illness, my Dad needed respite care and then a permanent nursing home to meet his needs. We looked at a couple of homes in the Wokingham area and was impressed by West Oaks. The home is clean, modern and well-staffed. From the manager down to the catering staff, you really feel that they care...
My Dad's bedroom overlooks the lovely garden at the back. The bedroom is smaller than others in the home but it offers all the space he needs with his own bathroom. The home is warm and the food is good. The catering team will prepare within reason whatever a resident would like.
The nursing and healthcare staff are all lovely, and genuinely care about giving residents like my Dad the best life that they can have. I am particularly impressed with the way they communicate and look after residents.
I am very happy that my Dad is living in West Oak and I feel reassured that he is well looked after.

He was only in there for a week before he passed away but it was comforting that he spent his final week in such loving care with wonderful people who couldn't have done more to help him. They looked after the family and accepted us all with open arms. I would thoroughly recommend.

The senior general manager and administrator were amazing and completed onboarding for Mum so quickly and efficiently. Mum moved from another home and has settled in so well to Barchester West Oak Care Home. The staff are so caring and know all of the residents well. Mum does sleep a lot but the team actively try and get her interested in what is happening with activities. I love the culture of the home, I think this is what really made our decision, it really does feel like a home. There are always lots of refreshments for the residents and last weekend, when I visited, the person on duty made up a tray with a cloth, tea cups and saucers and two lovely slices of cake for Mum and I to sit and enjoy some personal space in the conservatory end of the ground floor, the visit was made to feel very special. I love the fact that Mum has to interact, she is out of her room with other people all day and so, is never alone. She had nineteen falls within five months at the old home, she has been at West Oak a month now and no falls.
Thank you so much for your wonderful review. We are absolutely delighted to hear that your mum has settled so well at Barchester West Oak Care Home. Dad passed away in June 2024 and we can honestly say that his year and a half at West Oak was the absolute best it could have been! Dad's bedroom was lovely, with a large window overlooking the garden and his own bathroom. Dad loved the food which changed daily, great starters, mains and of course, the puddings with custard. The nursing staff were fantastic, always on hand to ask questions of and completely professional, warm and understanding. And the carers... wow... amazing, hardworking, friendly, I really cannot praise them enough... they knew Dad and his foibles and they also looked after me and Mum too. West Oak is a family... and we were all privileged to be welcomed into that family with open arms!

I'm delighted to hear that your dad is settled and content at Barchester West Oak Care Home. It's heartening to know that he's receiving excellent care, enjoying his meals and feeling comfortable in his environment. Thank you for sharing your feedback about the activities provided. Your suggestion about offering activities upstairs is valuable. It's important for residents to have a variety of options available to them and ensuring that activities are accessible to all residents, regardless of their mobility, is key. I'll ensure that our activities coordinator and I review the activity planner and incorporate more diverse activities into the program, including those that can be held upstairs. Thank you again for taking the time to share your perspective. Your input helps us ensure that we're continuously improving the quality of life for all residents at Barchester West Oak Care Home.

My mum was in there for about a month and I have been over the moon with just about everything. Well, sadly my mum died yesterday evening at 9.20 and I just wanted to say the staff were as usual wonderful, helpful, understanding, caring and held my hand and hugged me as well just when I needed it....
My mum and I owe them a lot and just wanted to say well done and thanks so very much.

I'd like to say a big thank you to all the staff for looking after my aunt so lovingly. I was really worried how she would settle but when I visit she is happy and taking part in activities! It's a big weight off my shoulders to not be so worried about her. Thanks again.

We are so glad to hear of your positive experience and thankful for your kind comments. As a team, we work together to provide the best experiences for both our residents and family members.
In August 2022 I supported a family to look for a suitable home for both parents. West Oak far exceeded all other establishments we visited. The atmosphere is clean, warm and friendly. The facilities are outstanding. In September my clients moved in and were given a very warm welcome by all members...
The activities coordinators are absolutely fantastic. They provide a variety of activities and entertainment, personalised to individual capabilities.
Would definitely recommend.

Hi!My name is Ioan, and I am the Home Administrator of West Oak Care Home. Attitude makes the difference the motto that leads my way of life. Entrusted by this belief, I have decided to develop my professional skills and, as a result, I have completed a business management program.
My previous work experiences revealed a responsible person with a natural ability to adapt to new teams and develop trustful relationships. Willing to move on to the next chapter of my professional growth and eager to add new skills, I joined Barchester at the beginning of September. I am pleased to see the amount of hard work done by the entire team and company, and I am proud to be a part of this.

I have found a very rewarding role in assisting those who need our support.
My role here at West Oak is to provide a safe and happy environment for loved ones.

Hello, I’m Jo, and I work in a hairdressers salon. I’ve been hairdressing for 41 years, and the 7 years I’ve worked in care homes, I absolutely love it. I enjoy meeting new people and hearing their stories and ultimately making people feel good. I’m very flexible to people’s needs, whether they can come to the salon or need their hair done in their rooms.

Hi, I’m Helen and I’m the new Relatives Ambassador here at West Oak.West Oak has become my second home, and I can often be found joining in activities with my Mum (we both particularly enjoy any excuse for a sing-song) or in the bistro talking to residents and other relatives.
Navigating a move into a care home can be tough for the relatives involved. I unfortunately had to move my mother into West Oak in November and have previously had 2 other close relatives here in the last 8 years.
If you ever have a concern or simply want to chat, I’m always happy to listen.
