Hillside Nursing Home

Ardenham Lane, Bicester Road, Aylesbury HP19 8AB

Hillside Care Home is a purpose-built facility designed to suit many personal care and nursing needs, run by a team of staff who understand the needs of the elderly and people with physical disabilities, as well as more specialist services such as end-of-life care.

There is excellent support from local healthcare specialists – GP practices, physiotherapist, speech and language therapist, dietician, chiropodist, wheelchair services, dentist and optician.

Overview

The Review Score of 8.6 (maximum of 10) for Hillside Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 7 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Hillside Nursing Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

Detailed Breakdown

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.241 for Hillside Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (39 Excellents x 5) + (29 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 83 Ratings = 4.241

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.368 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hillside Nursing Home is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 13.6 positive Reviews (68 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 5 Reviews ÷ 13.6 Target = 0.368

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

8.6 Hillside Nursing Home has a Review Score of 8.6 (8.609) from 7 Reviews

Hillside is very supportive, always show my husband, daughter and me support. All the staff are caring and will go out their way to do anything for us. My husband is a lot happier here with the care they provide for him, it allows me and my daughter to have a better relationship with him. The management and office staff do everything they can and more for us.

Grainne Wokes, Home Manager at Hillside Nursing Home responded to this review on 11 May 2018:

Many thanks for the wonderful feedback. We certainly strive hard to ensure that our residents experience the best possible care. We also want to ensure that family members feel supported throughout what can often be a very difficult time.

For the most part, the home is good, the only issue I and my nan have is with agency staff who do not appear to be as fully trained/qualified as you would want a carer to be.
My nan has been dropped or almost dropped from her hoist on several occasions, this is totally unacceptable and not the level of service we would expect.
The regular members of staff at the home are brilliant though.

Thank you for your feedback, it is really helpful for us to get feedback so that we can strive for continuous improvement. Please do feel free to come and see me if there are any issues that you would like to discuss further.

My mother has been a resident at Hillside Nursing Home for a few years now. At first, she was very unsettled but the staff were very understanding and patient with my mother's behaviour. The home itself is a very happy place and my mother's physical needs are very well catered for. She sometimes tells me she is bored but there are activities for her and all residents to partake in, but unfortunately, due to her dementia, she sometimes forgets what she does.
She is also regularly taken out into Aylesbury.

We are very pleased to receive such positive feedback. We are continuously working on new activities for residents to ensure that they have a fulfilled and meaningful day. We continue to hope that your Mum enjoys her time with us and that you continue to find your visits a positive experience.

It was good to bring my mum in law 'home' from three weeks in hospital to somewhere peaceful and where she was looked after during the last week of her life.
She was cared for and kept nice and clean and comfy.
You can't ask for more for someone you love, it's what everyone should have at the end of their life.
A big thank you to everyone who looked after my mum in law for us.

My husband has been resident at Hillside for 9 years and since the manager started in February 2016, the home has been a wonderful place. The staff are amazing, both administrative and carers and supporting staff. I would not wish my husband to be anywhere else as he is looked after so well. The manager and all staff are very supportive to me in what is a difficult situation. I cannot fault the care that is shown to the residents and their relatives.

This care home is very good. Mother is happy although gets lonely at times. All the residents are encouraged to go to bed early.

Deborah Langton, Area Manager at Hillside Nursing Home responded to this review on 16 Jan 2017:

Dear Marilyn

Thank you for your feedback, I am glad to feel that the care given to your mother is good. However, the residents do not need to go to bed early and I will discuss this with the manager on the approach you have seen to ensure there is no confusion.

Once again, thank you for your feedback, it is valued.

Regards

Deborah
