For the most part, the home is good, the only issue I and my nan have is with agency staff who do not appear to be as fully trained/qualified as you would want a carer to be.
My nan has been dropped or almost dropped from her hoist on several occasions, this is totally unacceptable and not the level
of service we would expect.
The regular members of staff at the home are brilliant though.
Reply from Grainne Wokes, Home Manager at Hillside Nursing HomeThank you for your review that regular members of staff at the home are brilliant and for sharing your concerns with us about your experience at our home. My mother has been a resident at Hillside Nursing Home for a few years now. At first, she was very unsettled but the staff were very understanding and patient with my mother's behaviour. The home itself is a very happy place and my mother's physical needs are very well catered for. She sometimes tells
me she is bored but there are activities for her and all residents to partake in, but unfortunately, due to her dementia, she sometimes forgets what she does.
She is also regularly taken out into Aylesbury.
Reply from Grainne Wokes, Home Manager at Hillside Nursing HomeWe are very pleased to receive such positive feedback. We are continuously working on new activities for residents to ensure that they have a fulfilled and meaningful day. We continue to hope that your Mum enjoys her time with us and that you continue to find your visits a positive experience.

It was good to bring my mum in law 'home' from three weeks in hospital to somewhere peaceful and where she was looked after during the last week of her life.
She was cared for and kept nice and clean and comfy.
You can't ask for more for someone you love, it's what everyone should have at the end
of their life.
A big thank you to everyone who looked after my mum in law for us.

My husband has been resident at Hillside for 9 years and since the manager started in February 2016, the home has been a wonderful place. The staff are amazing, both administrative and carers and supporting staff. I would not wish my husband to be anywhere else as he is looked after so well. The manager
and all staff are very supportive to me in what is a difficult situation. I cannot fault the care that is shown to the residents and their relatives.

This care home is very good. Mother is happy although gets lonely at times. All the residents are encouraged to go to bed early.
Reply from Deborah Langton, Area Manager at Hillside Nursing HomeDear Marilyn

Thank you for your feedback, I am glad to feel that the care given to your mother is good. However, the residents do not need to go to bed early and I will discuss this with the manager on the approach you have seen to ensure there is no confusion.

Once again, thank you for your feedback, it is valued.

Regards

Deborah

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.657)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.657) out of 10 for Hillside Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 22 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.657 for Hillside Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (181 Excellents x 5) + (56 Goods x 4) + (12 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 251 Ratings = 4.657
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hillside Nursing Home is based on 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 68 registered maximum number of service users is 13.6, which has been reached with 22 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
