Hillside Nursing Home is a really pleasant home where the staff are friendly and always make you feel welcome. The staff are always there with a smile and nothing is too much trouble.
I come to visit a dear friend who has been at Hillside for some time now and they feel very happy and content to live
there. There are always different activities going on at Hillside which everyone is invited to join in with. The home is filled with lots of laughter, fun and more importantly, care.
Reply from Grainne Wokes, Home Manager at Hillside Nursing HomeMany thanks for your wonderful feedback. I know you don’t get to visit as often as you like but I really appreciate the positive comments that you have made about our home. If we can assist with anything else please do not hesitate to contact me.

Care fair to good, staff and management very friendly. But the management is very poor with communication. I was left a voicemail to tell me my uncle had passed away before they realised that they should have phoned the right number we gave them 4hrs previous how bad is that. I have played this message
to my colleagues and professional people they can't believe it. They still have not contacted me 4 days after my uncle died with any condolences or any help. Why would you recommend this home?
Reply from Grainne Wokes, Home Manager at Hillside Nursing HomePlease accept our sincere condolences at the loss of your Uncle. I am truly sorry that you feel we were not in contact immediately. We would not normally contact family members to discuss clearing of rooms or final bills, as this could be considered inappropriate. If you would like to meet, please do contact the home directly; this would give us the opportunity to discuss any concerns you have.

My friend lived in Hillside for 11 years. I visited her regularly and organised her birthday parties and Christmas presents. Every time I visited I was welcomed by the staff and my friend looked happy to be there. She was always well cared for which was reflected in her appearance; her hair looking
nice with hair accessories always looking glamorous. Staff used to keep me informed of her well being and changes. The nursing home was fully refurbished and is clean and homely. The menu is varied and shows good nutrition. The nursing home also facilitated fortnightly visits of my friend's 2 sisters and accommodated for my friend to spend Christmas Lunch with her family at the nursing home.
Unfortunately, my friend passed away. The whole staff team supported organising her funeral, the nursing home chaplain conducted her funeral and after that, we celebrated her life at the nursing home with all that knew her.
I would recommend Hillside to anyone who expects to be treated with dignity and respect.
Reply from Grainne Wokes, Home Manager at Hillside Nursing HomeThank you so much for the wonderful feedback, we are delighted that every time you visited you felt welcomed and your friend was happy living at Hillside.
We will pass on your compliments to the team.

My mum was admitted in January 2018 for palliative care. The staff went above and beyond on many occasions to not only make sure she had the best care possible. They also looked after us as a family during mum's stay, all the way up til the day she died and even attended her funeral. Amazing people
and we shall be forever grateful as a family for the compassion and empathy shown by all at Hillside Nursing Home.
Reply from Grainne Wokes, Home Manager at Hillside Nursing HomeThank you so much for your wonderful feedback. We hope you and your family are all coping after such a sad period.

Hillside is very supportive, always show my husband, daughter and me support. All the staff are caring and will go out their way to do anything for us. My husband is a lot happier here with the care they provide for him, it allows me and my daughter to have a better relationship with him. The management
and office staff do everything they can and more for us.
Reply from Grainne Wokes, Home Manager at Hillside Nursing HomeMany thanks for the wonderful feedback. We certainly strive hard to ensure that our residents experience the best possible care. We also want to ensure that family members feel supported throughout what can often be a very difficult time.

For the most part, the home is good, the only issue I and my nan have is with agency staff who do not appear to be as fully trained/qualified as you would want a carer to be.
My nan has been dropped or almost dropped from her hoist on several occasions, this is totally unacceptable and not the level
of service we would expect.
The regular members of staff at the home are brilliant though.
Reply from Grainne Wokes, Home Manager at Hillside Nursing HomeThank you for your review that regular members of staff at the home are brilliant and for sharing your concerns with us about your experience at our home. We would very much like the opportunity to meet with you to discuss your concerns in more detail, please could you contact us if you would like this to be arranged?

My mother has been a resident at Hillside Nursing Home for a few years now. At first, she was very unsettled but the staff were very understanding and patient with my mother's behaviour. The home itself is a very happy place and my mother's physical needs are very well catered for. She sometimes tells
me she is bored but there are activities for her and all residents to partake in, but unfortunately, due to her dementia, she sometimes forgets what she does.
She is also regularly taken out into Aylesbury.
Reply from Grainne Wokes, Home Manager at Hillside Nursing HomeWe are very pleased to receive such positive feedback. We are continuously working on new activities for residents to ensure that they have a fulfilled and meaningful day. We continue to hope that your Mum enjoys her time with us and that you continue to find your visits a positive experience.

It was good to bring my mum in law 'home' from three weeks in hospital to somewhere peaceful and where she was looked after during the last week of her life.
She was cared for and kept nice and clean and comfy.
You can't ask for more for someone you love, it's what everyone should have at the end
of their life.
A big thank you to everyone who looked after my mum in law for us.

My husband has been resident at Hillside for 9 years and since the manager started in February 2016, the home has been a wonderful place. The staff are amazing, both administrative and carers and supporting staff. I would not wish my husband to be anywhere else as he is looked after so well. The manager
and all staff are very supportive to me in what is a difficult situation. I cannot fault the care that is shown to the residents and their relatives.

This care home is very good. Mother is happy although gets lonely at times. All the residents are encouraged to go to bed early.
Reply from Deborah Langton, Area Manager at Hillside Nursing HomeDear Marilyn

Thank you for your feedback, I am glad to feel that the care given to your mother is good. However, the residents do not need to go to bed early and I will discuss this with the manager on the approach you have seen to ensure there is no confusion.

Once again, thank you for your feedback, it is valued.

Regards

Deborah

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.665)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.665) out of 10 for Hillside Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 30 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 30 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.665 for Hillside Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (248 Excellents x 5) + (82 Goods x 4) + (14 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 346 Ratings = 4.665
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hillside Nursing Home is based on 30 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 68 registered maximum number of service users is 13.6, which has been reached with 30 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
