In the 2 1/2 years Mum has been a resident at Ashley Lodge, staff have at all times been caring, friendly and supportive of her needs. They have gone out of their way to offer her food to tempt her appetite and encourage her to join in activities. I have visited on various days at various times, and
she and her room have always been clean and tidy. They make a point of phoning me promptly if, for example, Mum has had a fall. I can relax in the confidence that she is being well cared for.
This period of pandemic must have been particularly difficult for staff, but I have nothing but praise for the professional and sensitive way in which they have handled the countless problems thrown up in such exceptional circumstances. I should like to thank them all from the bottom of my heart for their dedication.

My mother was well cared for and as a family, we knew she was safe and loved by the staff. All the staff, including the housekeepers, kitchen staff and maintenance men understood and dealt with her dementia in a positive and caring way. The home was always clean and all the family became part of Ashley
Lodge. I can't thank Ashley Lodge enough for their support and care to my mother, myself and our family.

My husband has been a resident for 2 1/2 years. He is cared for brilliantly by very lovely staff who I can't thank enough for their compassion and patience. My husband is happy and I can't ask for more. Over the last 2 years, Ashley Lodge has been transformed into a very caring, safe and welcoming home
by its manager. Nothing is too much for them. I just want to thank you all for being there for my husband, and I know he would want to thank you as well!

I would like to give praise & positive feed back to the staff at Ashley Lodge who took care of my mother during a very difficult stage in her life.
Mum was fully aware of her need for professional care felt very safe & comforted in her room at Ashley Lodge.

Knowing there were always qualified &

dedicated nurses on duty night & day gave us confidence not to worry about her safety & welfare.
My family & I would visit mum often throughout every week at different times of day; we always felt she was getting the care & support she needed.

Mum liked to paint & be creative. They encouraged her to carry out these activities in the dedicated activities room; she often wasn't in the mood to mix with others; this wasn't a problem as it was fine to carry them on in her room where she could also have her meals.

She liked the room & the furniture provided; thought it so like a hotel that she didn't even want her own things!

BUPA now seem to be giving management there the support it deserves.

When my mother first went to stay at Ashley Lodge she was made to feel very welcome by all the staff and she soon adapted to care home life. The care staff are amazing and have enabled Mum to feel at home by giving her independence and accompanying her on trips outside, where she has been made to feel
like one of the family. She has been treated with respect and dignity throughout her stay by all the staff, from management to kitchen, who have been friendly and caring.

Having volunteered for a few months at Oak View, Ashley Lodge. I find all residents are very well cared for by the caring staff I came into contact with. All residents seem happy and adjusted to their new living arrangements. There is much interaction between staff and residents. Nutrition for the residents
is of a high standard with choices which is so important. Activities are well catered for the residents. I find this home is very person-centred with the staff well informed of each individual resident and their likes, dislikes, life story. I really enjoy my visits and I too have been made very welcome by all.

During the time my mum was at Ashley Lodge Oakview residential unit she was treated as we would have treated her within our family.
I feel it was the "going beyond the call of duty" that made my mum and us feel so at home.
Nothing was ever too much.
When mum passed away, I was astonished by the care
and support we received as a family.
Mum had the best care I could have possibly asked for.
Thank you to the staff in Oakview and Ashley Lodge.

Oakview at Ashley Lodge Care Home provides a safe, clean environment for my mum who has deteriorated with her dementia during her stay there. Her personal needs are provided by trained staff so that she always appears clean and tidy. She is given a choice of balanced menus for mealtimes and anytime
I have seen or eaten the food it is very good.
They provide various entertainment although mum chooses not to join in everything.
The staff are always pleasant and speak kindly and encouragingly to mum. I find I can speak to staff at any time and there are regular resident/family/friends meetings where concerns can be raised. I love the Sunday afternoon monthly tea organised by the manager at Oakview as it has a more social feel. I feel they all look after mum very well!! Thanks.

I should like to say on behalf of myself and my husband that the management team at this home have gone above and beyond to make my husband's stay at this care home the best it can be. Which, in turn, has made life easier for me to be able to cope with the fact that he had to leave our home. So we end
up much happier.

My sister spent her last 15 months at Ashley Lodge. She needed total physical care, all day in a wheelchair and needing a hoist to transfer. Mentally, she suffered some short-term memory loss and increasing dementia. One day her usual self and another sunk in the deepest depression, so caring for her
was never easy.

The trained nurses, always one on duty, were excellent and endlessly patient when she was being difficult about taking medication. The day to day care nursing varied in competence with the constant changes of staff, some with poor English, but I never heard anyone being impatient with her. I visited several times a week and was always made welcome.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.749)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.749) out of 10 for Ashley Lodge Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 36 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 36 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.749 for Ashley Lodge Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (316 Excellents x 5) + (80 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 407 Ratings = 4.749
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ashley Lodge Care Home is based on 36 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 77 registered maximum number of service users is 15.4, which has been reached with 36 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

I have worked in healthcare for over 12 years. I feel that you need to be so many things to be a care home manager but the most important thing you need is passion in everything you do for your residents and team.

I was born and raised in the village of Ashley so when the opportunity came up to make a difference to one of my local care homes, I grabbed it with both hands.

I’m a great believer in giving something back so spend a lot of time raising money for both local and national charities.

Cathy

Cathy Harkus

Job Title: Care Assistant Joined: 2020

Cathy spent most of her working career in a high-powered corporate job in the motor trade industry. After moving to a new area, semi-retired, she took a part-time role in a local bar. During lockdown, she wasn’t working and saw a lot of adverts on TV about the care industry and really wanted to help her local community, so she applied to work as a Home Assistant in our lovely home. “I really wanted to give something back to my community and I haven’t looked back! From kitchen work to housekeeping – I’ve done a bit of everything to help and I’ve loved it! I previously visited a care home when one of my relatives was in care and I couldn’t wait to get out of the place, but I’ve never had that feeling at Ashley Lodge. I walked in and the home was clean and tidy, the residents were lovely, and the staff were just so welcoming.”

“I love having a chat with our residents when I can but being part of making a difference to their lives is my favourite thing about working here. A few weeks ago the kitchen team served mince pies at afternoon tea and one of our residents was so excited! He told me how much he loves them, so I spoke to the kitchen and got him some extra ones and his face just lit up, he was so happy! It’s the little things that can make a huge difference to their day and I go home happy knowing that I made that happen.”
