Brendoncare Alton is a care home set in attractive, mature gardens. Its design enables the provision of high quality care within a welcoming and homely environment.

The care home provides nursing care, dedicated dementia care and end of life care for 80 people. Respite stays are also available, offering short breaks which are suitable for those recovering from an illness, a hospital stay or whilst regular carers take a break.

The varied menus provide healthy, wholesome, appetising food which is all freshly cooked on site. The catering team talks to the residents to ensure they are accommodating all their requirements. They are proud to hold a 5 star food hygiene rating with the Food Standards Agency (May 2023).

A full wellbeing and activities programme is provided to ensure residents stay active and continue to lead enriched lives.

When my mother was admitted into Brendoncare Alton she was very confused especially with all the current lockdown and restrictions in place and of course having moved there from a hospital then had to self isolate for 2 weeks in her room. As her door was not closed and she could hear other residents
and staff talking and walking around and of course they would always speak when they went past her room so she realised that it was not so bad. After her isolation and being able to mix in the day room with other residents, it didn't take her long to settle down and she is now very settled and in good spirits. Actually, mum didn't like to mix or meet new people before and would just sit in her flat and watch TV so it was a big surprise to see her actually mixing and enjoying a laugh with residents and staff alike. Mum is eating regularly which wasn't always the case at home, would say she was but sometimes it was too much bother and she would say she was just to stop you fussing.

My 89-year-old father has been in Brendoncare for 18 months and it has become a true "home from home" for him. From his perspective, he enjoys the interaction, care and support of the staff and management and most importantly, he is comfortable and happy. From my perspective, the home is very well
maintained and spotlessly clean and the staff outstanding, and they are the main reason why I have no concerns regarding his welfare.
For me, the best example is their handling of the Covid crisis, throughout which, Brendoncare has ensured that we have been kept updated with the home's Covid status and we have been able to maintain regular communication and visits with my father, despite the challenges that everybody has faced.

My mother has been a resident since March 2013 and we have been very pleased with the standard of care she has received over the past 7+ years and particularly in the current Covid crisis and as she approaches end of life care. She is comfortable and safe, and all the staff at Brendoncare do a wonderful
job - from reception, maintenance and catering to management, and particularly the nursing and care staff on her wing. I would be very pleased to recommend Brendoncare to other relatives.

My experience of Brendoncare Alton just gets better and better. Despite lockdown, my mother is very content and always comments on how well she is cared for. I have really appreciated the support the staff give me, nothing is too much trouble, even when they are rushed off their feet.
During this difficult
year, I have been confident that my mother is well looked after and mentally stimulated. As she is blind and deaf she relies on people for this stimulation.
The home is so well integrated, housekeeping, laundry, maintenance as well as administrative staff, all get involved with the residents and know them well. The direct care staff are second to none and exude a real fondness for the residents.

I recently moved my 91-year-old mother who has severe dementia from another home to Brendoncare Alton. The staff were really helpful in showing me the facilities using a phone camera during the Covid lockdown as well as arranging for her to move seamlessly. She seems very happy in her new home and her

Unfortunately, I had to place my aunt into Brendoncare Alton at short notice due to sudden declining health and mobility problems. From my first phone call, I felt supported and nothing was too much trouble, they answered all my many questions. The nurse manager phoned to speak to myself and my aunt
to make sure that everything was in place for an easy transfer when my aunt arrived. The nurse keeps me fully informed about any changes or concerns regarding my aunt. Everyone is so approachable, nothing is too much trouble, which has made a very tough and emotional decision less stressful.

Having visited several care homes in the area when the need arose, Brendoncare Alton stood head and shoulders above the rest. The set-up of small units, each with their own dining room and lounge, gives a homely feel to the place. The staff I’ve met are all lovely and so kind. I’m kept well informed
regarding Mum’s health and well-being and the welfare and happiness of the residents is obviously of prime importance. The public areas and private rooms are kept beautifully clean and the cleanliness and hygiene routines have been intensified during this year - borne out by the fact that the home has remained almost COVID free. This year has, no doubt, been an extremely difficult one for the staff but, from all my mum has said, it has not affected the treatment of the residents which remains exemplary.

Mum received excellent care from the staff in Melbourne Ward. Our father has been into Brendoncare daily and has been made most welcome as he sat with mum. Staff were very helpful in signing him in and getting the lift for him. The lockdown and pandemic have caused all the above to change, but the staff
were very helpful amid the restrictions always taking the phone to mum in her room when we rang and setting up zoom calls weekly for our family. They were compassionate as she neared the end of her life, and treated mum with care and respect. Thank you to all involved.

When it came to the time that Mum had to go into care we contacted and visited a number of care homes in the area. Brendoncare Alton stood out from the rest as the facilities are clean, of a good standard and well maintained. The care staff and management are excellent.

My father is well looked after by the staff, and it's a great relief to see him so content.

Everyone's circumstances are different. Nowhere is perfect, not even your home that you may be leaving. Life is not like that. The care and attention is reassuring to both resident and family. Nothing is too much bother even during this lockdown.

My parents lived in two bedroomed flat at Brendoncare Alton for 8 years. Both moving into the nursing wing. The close care staff were simply wonderful in assisting with every need as it arose. The nursing home too provided 100% support, care, and attention. All the staff is so kind and diligent and

Our mother had severe dementia and was looked after for eight years in the home. Her children lived overseas. She was looked after with care and dignity till the end. We were able to feel secure in the knowledge that she was well looked after. We are extremely grateful to the home and the staff.

When Mum arrived at Brendoncare in March 2016 it was with some reluctance and even apprehension, but it wasn't long before she forged strong, friendly relationships with the staff, from cleaners to nurses, which is a credit to the professionalism of them all. Eventually, Brendoncare became "home" to
her and the staff who knew her well treated her like family (not distantly like a hotel guest). She enjoyed the informal banter and humour with the staff in days when there have been numerous reasons for failing or sub-standard nursing homes. We count ourselves fortunate that Mum was at Brendoncare, a charitable institution with a clear "residents first" ethos.

Nicola has 40 years of experience in social care. She started in children’s services, but after 10 years, Nicola moved across to adult services, including dementia and nursing. She then spent 18 years employed in a series of interim social care management roles, working for larger companies and single care homes.

Both my mother and my grandmother had a passion for caring and their dedication to helping other people inspired me to train as a nurse. I graduated in nursing in 2005, then took a Masters degree in Psychology and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in 2008. After having worked in two private settings, I started working in social care in 2015 and joined Brendoncare in 2018 as Deputy Manager. I am deeply passionate about making a positive impact in people's lives, especially in a field where understanding, empathy and support are crucial.


Outside work, I enjoy spending time with my family and watching my young daughter growing up and exploring the world around her. My husband restores classic cars and we enjoy going to car races and shows and have even won some international competitions.

My 12 years of social care experience have been mainly working for corporate nursing home providers in customer-facing roles supporting families seeking residential care for their loved ones. I joined Brendoncare in 2017 initially as a wellbeing coordinator, bringing fun and joy to residents’ lives through a range of activities. After a brief spell in 2019 working for another care provider, I returned to Brendoncare as Customer Relations Manager. I enjoy watercolour painting and entering amateur photography competitions. I love the smell of freshly cut grass and fragrant roses in my garden – appreciating the beauty of life’s simple pleasures means so much to me.

I have been working in health and social care since I left education in 2010 working with many sectors of different ages and abilities but my true passion lies with independent living due to their wittiness and not being afraid to tell you how it is!


I have a family of 2 and a Miniature Dachshund all of which keep me busy! I love to socialise and get involved in anything and everything! When I do have spare time, I enjoy swimming/walks and simply enjoying a glass of bubbles in the summer evenings.

I started at Brendoncare Alton in the summer of 2016 as a care assistant, I then progressed to a senior carer and I have now been doing the role of practice educator for just over 2 years. I enjoy supporting new starters and ensuring they all have a good concept of Brendoncare's core values.


Outside work, I have a keen interest in attending personal training sessions and yoga. I also enjoy reading, with my favourite genres being romance and fantasy. I also spend a lot of time with my niece and nephew being the fun cool Auntie!
