Barchester Challoner House Care Home

Coffee and cakes were always available on arrival as a visitor and were much appreciated. The staff were always friendly and helpful. We moved Dad on the 9th August 2019 mainly because mum was being discharged from the hospital and they wanted to be together. The cost of Challoner House was not possible. Although the nursing home is very good we felt that they could manage to live in a care/residential house which saved them 50% of the cost at Challoner. Our aim is for mum and dad to return home soon and live out their remaining years with care at their home they have shared for 53 years.

Since my mother-in-law came for respite 2 weeks ago, we have noticed a great improvement in her. She is really happy and loves the place and staff. She looks better and says she feels well. The home appears to be really well managed and is spotlessly clean. When we visit all the staff are very friendly. We are hoping mum can stay here.

We are very happy with the care and facilities in this home and the activities which we sometimes join in with are well organised and well supported.

Mum has been in Challoner House 3 and a half years. Her health has improved and she seems happy and content. She has also made friends with several residents and joins in most of the activities.

Very pleasant atmosphere with excellent facilities and set in well looked after gardens. Top quality nursing care, and very attentive carers. Very busy activities programme with multiple activities each day. All staff are very friendly. Highly recommended.

Whilst I have only one week's experience I have found everything satisfactory so far. Staff are very pleasant and helpful. My relative is settling well.

The care at Challoner House was very good. My father was well cared for, the staff are very friendly and attentive. He enjoyed the food and mixing with the other residents and was encouraged to join in the activities.

The garden and facilities are lovely and the staff friendly and very kind, but I have been very disappointed with some aspects of management, particularly on the nursing side and in respect of lost items. No inventory is taken nor any note made of items that have disappeared. It is often difficult to get things done - for example, it has taken weeks for my mother to have ear drops administered.

Grandma is happy living here, she is well looked after here. She enjoys the food and the staff are lovely.

The care received was fantastic and can't be faulted. The team were extremely supportive throughout and informed us quickly and efficiently if any changes were seen. Fabulous care provided! Thank you so much.

My review is based on the care and support my family have had over the past three weeks whilst our mother has been in respite care.

During this time the family have had to deal with many emotions in trying to get "our mum" to accept she is no longer safe to return home even with a care package in place.

Throughout, mum has had first-class care and support as have we, her family. We know mum will be well looked after and safe in Barchester Challoner House Care Home. Thank you all.

The care given to my sister by all of the Challoner staff was second to none. They cared for her with dignity and skill, thoughtfulness and compassion. Always respectful, they also supported us as a family. We were reassured that my sister was in safe and caring hands.

The care my mother received in the short time she was there was absolutely outstanding.

Since the redecoration, the public rooms have a much lighter look and feel. Very nice.
