Challoner House offers high-quality nursing and residential care in an un-rivalled setting located in the lovely village of Chandlers Ford, and on a direct bus route to and from Southampton.

The warmth of welcome from the team of staff can be felt the minute as soon as visitors step foot into this lovely home.

With their help and the help of the ladies and gentlemen who live with them – they really do offer a home from home. The team provides high-quality care with a caring and person-centred attitude. Their approach to nursing care is based on the use of personalised care plans. Drawn up with the individuals they support and their families, care plans will help ensure that each person they look after is treated with respect and that their independence and choice are maximised.

Professionals passion for the home can be seen in everything they do - in their cooking, hospitality, housekeeping and, of course, in organising activities for residents.

Activities make up the most important part of all their days and at Challoner House, they ensure they provide a variety that reflects the interests and capabilities of all the ladies and gentlemen they support. Full use is made of the home’s minibus and being located so close to the M3 in minutes, they can be enjoying the beautiful surrounding countryside. There are several regular group sessions – but perhaps the most popular – certainly with the ladies are regular pamper sessions.

Beautifully landscaped award-winning gardens allow residents to enjoy a high standard of outdoor living. The frequent events and parties include all residents who wish to join in and their families.

The home takes pride in the staff and residents at Challoner to make it as homely as possibly can.

My review is based on the care and support my family have had over the past three weeks whilst our mother has been in respite care.


During this time the family have had to deal with many emotions in trying to get "our mum" to accept she is no longer safe to return home even with a care package in

place.


Throughout, mum has had first-class care and support as have we, her family. We know mum will be well looked after and safe in Barchester Challoner House Care Home. Thank you all.

The care given to my sister by all of the Challoner staff was second to none. They cared for her with dignity and skill, thoughtfulness and compassion. Always respectful, they also supported us as a family. We were reassured that my sister was in safe and caring hands.

Father has enjoyed his stay at Barchester Challoner House Care Home again. The staff are very friendly and make a fuss of him.


Since the redecoration, the public rooms have a much lighter look and feel. Very nice.

Most of the time things run well, but recently they seem to have been short staffed - and that has meant a lower standard of service.
In recent months I have raised concerns about the standard of care my mother has been receiving, but no response has been forthcoming.
I'm hopeful that recent changes
will lead to an improvement in the service.

To reassure you that our staffing levels are in line with company policy, which is always above the industry average, at present recruitment is an on-going challenge and therefore we are utilising agency carers to help us through this period. We always try and use the same agency workers to assist with continuity, recently we have recruited 5 new carers and will be able to rely on our own staff to deliver care in the future.

Lovely surroundings and nursing staff. Felt a little more communication from management once mum was admitted would have been helpful in order to smooth the settling in process.

I think Challoner House is a good care home with plenty of entertainment. The only criticism I have is that my friend has been left with food uneaten as she cannot do it herself. Cold cups of tea etc.

A very caring environment for my aunt. Lovely staff, a very clean, pleasant room and pretty gardens to look out on. I feel my aunt is being given very good care and her dignity is well maintained in her twilight years.

My experience is that the home is very well run. The staff are looking after my mother very well. Some days my mother finds that food could be improved, she seems to have too much fish which she does not eat.

The activities coordinator is always happy and enthusiastic about her job. She really cares for the residents and likes to make sure they join in. She is always organising events to fund the residents having various activities eg. visiting entertainers, petting zoo etc.

From the first time I visited Challoner House to visit a resident (now deceased), I have found the home to be a very good unit compared to hospital units! I visited as Chaplain. The care is up with some of the best, and better than many.


I have found the staff helpful and supportive of my ministry,

and very caring towards residents. I frequently recommend Challoner House to people who are looking for residential care for relatives.

Dani's role is to support General Manager by maintaining the administration and financial systems within the home in accordance with company standards and in compliance with all regulatory and statutory obligations. Dani is often the first point of contact for relatives and representatives and tends to get to know everyone more personally.

In my spare time, I am a qualified dance instructor and enjoy playing football. I also enjoy travelling to my family's homes in Morocco and Italy.

I started my chef career as a second chef in a hospital before taking on the role of Head Chef at Challoner House in May 2023. I have been lucky enough to be able to attend and pass the Barchester Chef Academy.


In my spare time, I enjoy travelling the world, learning new culinary skills and socialising with friends. I also enjoy going back home to Poland to visit my family.
