Challoner House offers high-quality nursing and residential care in an un-rivalled setting located in the lovely village of Chandlers Ford, and on a direct bus route to and from Southampton.

The warmth of welcome from the team of staff can be felt the minute as soon as visitors step foot into this lovely home.

With their help and the help of the ladies and gentlemen who live with them – they really do offer a home from home. The team provides high-quality care with a caring and person-centred attitude. Their approach to nursing care is based on the use of personalised care plans. Drawn up with the individuals they support and their families, care plans will help ensure that each person they look after is treated with respect and that their independence and choice are maximised.

Professionals passion for the home can be seen in everything they do - in their cooking, hospitality, housekeeping and, of course, in organising activities for residents.

Activities make up the most important part of all their days and at Challoner House, they ensure they provide a variety that reflects the interests and capabilities of all the ladies and gentlemen they support. Full use is made of the home’s minibus and being located so close to the M3 in minutes, they can be enjoying the beautiful surrounding countryside. There are several regular group sessions – but perhaps the most popular – certainly with the ladies are regular pamper sessions.

Beautifully landscaped award-winning gardens allow residents to enjoy a high standard of outdoor living. The frequent events and parties include all residents who wish to join in and their families.

The home takes pride in the staff and residents at Challoner to make it as homely as possibly can.

From the first time I visited Challoner House to visit a resident (now deceased), I have found the home to be a very good unit compared to hospital units! I visited as Chaplain. The care is up with some of the best, and better than many.


I have found the staff helpful and supportive of my ministry,

and very caring towards residents. I frequently recommend Challoner House to people who are looking for residential care for relatives.

Since I have been here, I have found staff very helpful and caring and very patient, even when extremely busy and short staffed, but it does vary with different members of staff. Basically, I think they all work extremely hard and have been very caring when anyone becomes emotional.

My father was admitted to Challoner in a very poor state, having suffered a fractured pelvis which left him unable to cope at home suffering a series of falls. Due to the excellent care from all the staff, he has made a remarkable recovery. All his sores have disappeared (due to his hospital stay),
he is eating well and he has put on 10lbs in weight. I would highly recommend the home as there are plenty of staff who are very friendly and helpful. The quality and quantity of food is excellent and the activities and facilities are very good. More importantly, my father is happy there.

My friend has been a resident for about three weeks and I have visited on four occasions so far. I have been impressed by the friendliness of all the staff and by the caring way that they are looking after my friend who needs a lot of care.

My PAT dog, Honey and I visit weekly. I am impressed by the warm welcome we receive from the staff and residents. Staff are always on hand if any questions need to be asked, I find them very helpful. The home is very neat and tidy and the daily programme board shows interesting activities.

I go in as a volunteer most weeks. I spend time with the resident, painting nails when they have had their hair done by the hairdresser.


Staff are always welcoming to me - even though it's only once a week. Always a pleasant atmosphere.

My mother has lived at Challoner House for a little over two years. The care that she receives is of a high standard. She is treated with respect, affection and admiration due to her great age of 101. My mother is a very private and independent lady which is respected by staff.
Recently my mother-in-law
also stayed at Challoner House for end of life care. My husband felt that he was well cared for as well as his mother. In the end, he felt that he was enveloped in a huge hug by management and staff.

My two weeks spent at Barchester Challoner House Care Home were lovely. The staff were most attentive to my special menu requirements (I am an insulin type 1 diabetic) It was a good holiday! Just what I needed after a month in the hospital.

Brilliant care from all at the home. We were astonished by the level of care and time provided. Great care was taken to treat dad well and with respect. Also, we as his family were cared for too. We were always kept in the picture regarding dad's situation. Can't praise Challoner House enough.

My aunt was struggling to look after herself at home and since coming to Challoner House we are delighted that her health and well-being is so much improved. She needs a lot of care and the staff are doing a fantastic job and she seems happy and content.
