My mother always speaks highly of the staff, but I have found communication difficult - finding out my mother's weight or blood sugar levels for example.

We have been very impressed with Challoner House. The staff are very friendly and seem genuinely concerned for the residents' welfare. Meals are good and I would recommend the home (as I have already done so!).

My mother has lived at Challoner House for a little over two years. The care that she receives is of a high standard. She is treated with respect, affection and admiration due to her great age of 101. My mother is a very private and independent lady which is respected by staff.

Recently my mother-in-law also stayed at Challoner House for end of life care. My husband felt that he was well cared for as well as his mother. In the end, he felt that he was enveloped in a huge hug by management and staff.

My two weeks spent at Barchester Challoner House Care Home were lovely. The staff were most attentive to my special menu requirements (I am an insulin type 1 diabetic) It was a good holiday! Just what I needed after a month in the hospital.

Brilliant care from all at the home. We were astonished by the level of care and time provided. Great care was taken to treat dad well and with respect. Also, we as his family were cared for too. We were always kept in the picture regarding dad's situation. Can't praise Challoner House enough.

My aunt was struggling to look after herself at home and since coming to Challoner House we are delighted that her health and well-being is so much improved. She needs a lot of care and the staff are doing a fantastic job and she seems happy and content.

I went into Challoner House after my husband's death, feeling very frail and unable to walk without help. I felt sick at the mention of food and had lost over a stone in a couple of weeks. I found the staff most sympathetic and helpful, day and night, so that after five weeks more or less I felt able to come to this place (extra care scheme), which is for people with some kind of disability, but basically able to look after themselves. However, if my condition (or either when my condition) deteriorates, I have asked my children to take me back to Challoner House.

My mother has been a resident for only six weeks. Every time my brother and myself visit we always receive an extremely warm welcome from all of the staff no matter what designation, from carers to managers. We are always offered tea and cake (their speciality!) nothing is too much trouble for the staff. My mothers care is incredible every little thing is attended to especially by carers and night carer a particular favourite with my mother who always bring her a cup of tea in the early hours before she even asks for it!! The only minor detail is that breakfast is sometimes quite a late, but my mother does get up early, staff already think about that in providing a "goody box" for her to have with her early cup of tea. Beautiful new refurb like a five star hotel.

Spent many months in and out of hospital, nice to come to a home that feels like home not hospital. Wonderful kind staff, friendly, helpful and residents are treated with respect and dignity. Would highly recommend the home to anyone. It's in a lovely discreet location and very calm and quiet.

My mother was diagnosed as terminal with a brain tumour but was not 'ill' enough to go to the local hospice. She required 24 hour personal care however, which I was not able to do on my own so I chose Challoner House, as it had all the personal and nursing care that would be needed as she deteriorated as well as a lively and cheerful atmosphere.
From first to last (approx 10 weeks) every member of staff was fantastic. Mum was always comfortable, clean and entertained and I was also looked after on my mostly daily visits. When mum was still 'with it' she always said how lovely everyone was.

What I was most grateful for was that I was called at night when her condition changed for the worse so I was able to be with her for her last few hours. I was treated with such respect and compassion. I can't thank all at Challoner House enough!

I had to find respite facility for my 92 year old mother for 12 months as the apartment she has just purchased wasn't ready. I have to confess I'd heard mixed reviews, however I kept an open mind as I knew there was a new manager on board. The care and consideration given to mum exceeded my expectations. We had an extremely warm welcome and because we were not sure how long mum would have to stay it was made clear from the outset that she was welcome to stay as long as she liked or was necessary. Thank you to all the staff you go that extra mile. Well done.
