Flowerdown Care Home is situated in the quiet village of Harestock just off the M3, nestled in leafy surroundings, with Winchester shops less than 10 mins by car.

Flowerdown provides first-class residential and nursing care, offering respite and short breaks, as well as permanent care placements.

The home benefited from a full refurbishment completed in mid 2024. The refurbishment included all areas of the home from bedrooms to communal areas, the finish is exquisite and has given the home a warm, comfortable but high class feels.
Set over two floors, with spacious lounge areas and first class restaurant dining rooms on both floors, where food is prepared by award winning academy trained chefs.

The home has benefits from large landscaped gardens with seating areas and walkways - perfect for sitting and relaxing or taking in the beautiful scenery. The home and gardens are set back and this allows the home to be a peaceful and tranquil environment.

There's also a wide and varied activity programme, scheduled for group activities, or offering residents one to one activities of their choosing and tailored to their individual request.

The café bistro is open to all, boasting delicious freshly made cakes, please pop in, enjoy a slice of cake, see the home and meet the wonderful team - no appointment needed.

Given that the entry into this Care Home is recent and the renovation is ongoing our ratings have been influenced by it.


The Care Home is being renovated which necessitated to move my mother-in-law from her initial room to a totally renovated one. The new room presents very well indeed. The move

was planned for 9 am on 17/9/2023. Pre-packing assistance of personal items was available prior to this date. The move worked on time and with excellent support during the actual move to the new room. The General Manager was actively involved in leading and implementing the move and was leading by example. In general, the manager is very approachable and helpful in dealing with client's requests speedily.

This was a real lifesaver for me as Mum's care became more challenging prior to her coming to Barchester Flowerdown Care Home for respite care. Mum was well cared for by an attentive care team and her health improved substantially. I will be forever grateful.

The senior staff and nurses were very solicitous and helpful during my mother's stay at the home. They were understanding and responsive which was a godsend as my mother has limited English. The day-to-day staff were also magnificent, of course, some outshone others but overall very compassionate and
caring. The home itself is undergoing much-needed modernisation which will increase its attractiveness to its targeted audience.

Since my father arrived at Flowerdown he has had excellent care. From the first day he arrived, everyone was friendly and welcoming and the home is clean and homely. He receives very good care and attention from the carers and is encouraged to be involved as much as he can. The home is very responsive
when his needs change and are good at updating the family on any developments. There are plenty of activities to join in with and a beautiful garden to enjoy.

My mother has been a resident for nearly four years at Flowerdown Care Home. Activities were very well organised when Mum first came to Flowredown. The care staff and managers were always kind and friendly. I felt confident she was well cared for particularly as she lost the ability to walk. Food always
looked and smelt good. My only disappointment was not being informed about the Xmas party-her last Xmas party.

Our mother recently came to Flowerdown Care Home for assessment after a prolonged stay in the hospital. In the final week of her life, we could not have wished for her to be in a more caring environment with excellent staff, particularly the care assistant and the registered nurse, supporting her. As

My elderly mother had to be admitted quickly due to a rapidly changing situation at her home. The staff and care being provided to Mum is fantastic and we are forever grateful for the home being able to take over mum's care when we children could not provide the level of care or safety that she needed.
Mum
sees the staff as friends. She loves the food and has a particularly lovely room overlooking the gardens.

Due to rapidly changing circumstances at home, we came to Flowerdown with little notice. From the moment I walked in and was met by the manager, I knew this was the right place to give the support my mum needed. The care and kindness has been outstanding, the food delicious (my mum's words) and the

Prior to coming to Flowerdown, I was given to understand that physio would be readily available to help my mobility. I have been here for 7 months and have now been told physiotherapy is not given and I was misinformed. However, I would say that under the excellent care of the head nurse, my overall
health has improved immensely. I recommend all the staff take the NVQ qualification.

Mother was admitted directly from hospital for end of life care. She was warmly welcomed by the staff and this set the tone for her stay. A good balance of nursing, care activities and food. Our thanks to the manager and the team for looking after mum. The only negative which might have put us off selecting
the home was the need for redecoration, which is planned, but the care was much more important than the decor. Special thanks for being there.

My mother spent nearly 2 years in Flowerdown prior to her recent death at 100 years of age. She arrived just before Covid restrictions began and so experienced all the necessary restrictions imposed to keep residents safe and healthy. It was a difficult time for her and her family, but we are so grateful
to the staff for looking after her so well. They were excellent. The care, attention and love they gave to my mother was much appreciated.

My mother's physical needs were well cared for, but particularly after Covid limited things, shortage of activities, interesting events and staffing problems made life very boring for her. We appreciate the staff's efforts to cope under these circumstances though and thank them in particular the manager.

It's difficult to describe the exemplary care, devotion and professionalism of the team in Flowerdown. Mum had a horrendous experience of complete lack of care in an establishment with a highly branded reputation previously, this totally changed from the second she arrived. The leadership is dedicated,
relentlessly supportive and quite frankly my sister and I felt like Mum was the only resident given the level of care and attention provided. It is like that 24 hours a day. Mum's room was beautiful, the grounds are wonderful and the care surpassed all of that. We reached the end with Mum earlier this week. It would be true to say that Mum has had the best last four months of her life here. Our deepest thanks and gratitude for the leadership and the team at Flowerdown - you rock, every single one of you. Without you and your support, this time would have been so difficult, it is due to your focus, care and dedication that you have made our time so precious too. Thank you.

My mother was discharged from hospital to Flowerdown to receive end-of-life care. The care that she received whilst in the home, for the short time she was there, was very good. The nurses and staff showed mum compassion and did all they could to keep her calm and comfortable which was all we could

My father was at Flowerdown Care home for almost two weeks of palliative care. We found the home to be very friendly and my father was always kept clean and tidy in a lovely room with a view of the home's garden. At a personally difficult time, we found the staff to be supportive, sympathetic and respectful.

Mum was admitted for respite care until she sadly passed away. The standard of care she received was very good, the staff were very compassionate and helpful. We were able to visit once a day with a Covid test and PPE provided. Overall we were very happy with the care Mum received.

Damian Dorrington

Hello, my name is Damian, and I am the Head of Maintenance at Flowerdown Care Home. And I started in the Summer of 2025. Since my early 20’s I have been working in maintenance, covering various aspects, from facilities maintenance to designing and coordinating Opera stages. For the last 5 years, I have been involved in the care industry, focusing on maintaining care home environments for people with learning difficulties.


Outside of work, I am a keen fitness addict and go to the gym 4-5 times a week. To relax, I enjoy playing my guitar or listening to music and listening to daily podcasts

Jander De Sousa

Job Title: Head Chef Joined: 2023

Hello, I am Jander and I am the newly appointed Head Chef at Flowerdown Care Home. I was born in Brazil and came to England in 2004. My love for cooking started at a young age and I have been working in the hospitality industry at various restaurants and in other care homes for over 20 years.
I am very passionate about creating 5 Star quality food that meets the nutritional and dietary requirements. I have a NVQ in Professional Cooking and I have recently qualified from the 2024 Barchester Chef Academy which I am exceptionally proud of and intend to use what I have learnt and apply this at Flowerdown. In my spare time I love gardening and also creating new dishes and recipes.

Hello, my name is Marcela and I am the Head of Housekeeping here at Flowerdown. I have been in the UK since 2015 and I have started my career as a housekeeper in a care home, private cleaning and Head of Housekeeping in hospitality. I do my job with passion and determination and I am very proud of working with the Flowerdown team ensuring a high standard of cleaning and infection control.

Job Title: Resident Ambassador

Susan is Flowerdown Care Home's resident ambassador. Sue is one of our kind-hearted and generous residents who shares her time ensuring her neighbours have a friend in her. Sue also is our resident cheerleader who rekindles the spirits of the staff when it is much needed. Sue is a well-loved figure here at Flowerdown Care Home and will be happy to give you a tour and share with you the countless memories we create.

Ian Tagg

Job Title: Head of Unit Joined: 2023

Hello, my name is Ian and I’m the head of Magnolia Unit (the first floor in Flowerdown).
I’ve been a nurse for over 30yrs, qualifying in Portsmouth in 1992. During that time, I’ve led a team giving 1 to 1 24hr care, to a prominent F1 figure as he travelled around the world and worked on a local NHS rehabilitation unit; the last 5yrs of which I was the senior charge nurse/unit deputy.
In 2023 I stepped away from a management role seeking a better work life balance and a return to providing high-quality, person-centred care. Flowerdown, and the fantastic team within it were the people to give me that opportunity.
I strive to provide outstanding care with a light-hearted approach aiming to put both the residents and their families at ease. I pride myself on learning the residents’ personal preferences and idiosyncrasies to ensure they feel safe and at the centre of their care. I am always happy to listen to ensure we can make the lives of our residents the best they can be.

I am Iona Moore, Head of Unit. I have worked at Flowerdown for 3 years. My Passion is working with the elderly and providing outstanding person centered care. I have been a nurse for a total of 15 years. 5 years of those I worked in a military hospital. Before becoming a nurse, I was a qualified farming engineer. I am very passionate about my job and I am very proud to be a part of the Flowerdown family.

Hi! I'm Elvans Nurse at Flowerdown. I have 13 years of work experience in various healthcare settings that taught me multiple skills and one I wouldn't trade for the world.


As a Senior Nurse, my primary responsibility is to safeguard our resident's best interests and welfare. We value and cherish our residents like our own family. What is important to our residents is important to us.


We also envision becoming an outstanding care home and being recognised for our great team effort. And to be a part of our amazing team and strong leadership that will no doubt we will succeed.

Pat Elkins

Job Title: Laundry Assistant Joined: 2001

Pat has worked in Flowerdown since 2001 and the laundry is very much her domain. Pat enjoys her job and the residents likewise enjoy her daily visits and chats when she brings their freshly washed and ironed clothes back to their rooms. Pat takes pride in what she does and this is much appreciated by our residents here at Flowerdown Care Home.

Ian Gregory

Job Title: Gardener Joined: 2013

I have worked for the care sector in many roles for over 20 years.


My passion for gardening has been with me for many years, starting with growing vegetables and house plants when I bought my first house, followed by creating a family-friendly garden for my children.
Now that the children are grown up, I'm enjoying designing a new style of garden for me and my wife, including building a summer house.


I have been gardening at Flowerdown since 2018, and the focus is to create a homely environment for the residents and their families.


I have weekly chats with the residents to discuss the current plans, my ideas and their wishes.


I have made a lot of new boarders at the front of the home and redesigned the raised beds in the back garden to include a climbing frame for new planting, which includes an area for the squirrels to feed, something that the residents enjoy.

I have worked at Flowerdown for just under 2 years. I work as a general assistant, hostess and housekeeping. Flowerdown feels like one big family and I really enjoy working here. I love talking to the residents and hearing all their stories. I also run the book club here at Flowerdown as my passion is reading, I could be lost in a book for hours. I have gained valuable experience working here at Flowerdown and I look forward to many more years here.

I have been a carer for 6 years; I started my Care journey with Flowerdown. I take pride in being a reliable team player and contributing to a positive work environment. I enjoy seeing and talking to the residents.
