What an amazing team! In the 3 months that I have spent visiting my mother at this care home, every one of the team has stood out as a friendly, caring and competent person, from the office staff to carers, cleaners, nurses, doctors, and laundry staff in no specific order.

The only thing I would wish for is one-to-one at least 2 hours a day with the residents who have full mind capacity but no body function.

The home is situated in a nice country setting, with beautiful gardens, which are well maintained. My room is comfortable, warm and nicely decorated. The staff are kind and friendly and include qualified nurses who provide care around the clock.

Dad moved in June 2023, from day one had issues with the en-suite!
Issues have been raised but somewhat ignored and now the shower floor is being ripped up and drainage is being changed to rectify! Dad's bed is not right, have complained and ignored whilst in the temporary room. The bed is perfect which shows the issues with the other room's bed.
Also, Dad had an issue with the resident coming into Dad's room uninvited, which has been resolved now.

All above is totally unacceptable and raises concern, especially for the price Dad is paying and adjusting to his new life, you do not need these issues.

Reply from Sara Gallagher, Operations Manager at Millway House

I am disappointed to learn of your frustrations with your Dad's experience of Millway House, and I am sorry that you are unhappy. I recognise that it is disruptive for your Dad to move to a temporary room. However, this was the only way to resolve the shower drainage problem with his en-suite...

Mum moved into the home nearly 18 months ago. I cannot fault the home for their care, both for her and our family. We can ask anything we want and someone at the home is always willing to give whatever help/information we’d like. Their care of Mum has been first-class. She recently had a birthday and, without a word to us, some of the staff gathered outside her room and came in with a huge cake, singing Happy Birthday, it was a wonderful, wonderful surprise!
Their social media page is also very useful and regularly updated. I can easily see what activities are happening. Everything from birds of prey to donkeys to talks from visiting museum staff.

Having placed Mum into respite care for 2 weeks a couple of years ago, in a home that was just awful (and now has closed). We really do appreciate the total difference in standards and care at Millway House. It also shows in how much happier Mum is now, compared to her respite stay.

In October 2022 I collapsed unconscious, I was my wife's carer as she was bedridden. We were both taken into hospital. After wonderful treatment, my wife entered Millway House and my daughter cares for me. From the moment my wife entered Millway, she has received superior care from the manager and all the staff of all disciplines. They are all so friendly and caring, not only to my wife but also to me as a daily visitor. We will be forever grateful to all our friends at Millway House.

My parents moved into Millway House in 2020 and have been cared for since - the onus being on ‘care’ as it has been nothing short of exceptional. Dad sadly passed away and Mum is now there on her own, but she loves it so much. She has very complicated care needs and I am always informed of any changes. I speak to her GP as and when I feel the need and never feel I don’t know what’s going on. There are plenty of activities for her to join in with and she has made lots of friends. However, Millway’s best asset is its staff. They are all kind attentive and professional. Sometimes there are not enough of them and they have to use agencies, but the same can be said across the whole care sector right now.

Happy environment = Happy residents.

Since my mother has been at Millway House, the team there have given wonderful care, the nursing staff have given us updates and the care staff do an excellent job and the activities ladies do keep the residents entertained on a daily basis. l have been at the home at meal times and the food looks appetising and my mother enjoys her food. My mother is a happy contented resident and is a lot happier since she has been there. Well done to all the staff, carry on the excellent work.

Overall Experience

My mother was admitted into Millway House just over three weeks ago. I know too well how difficult it is to make a decision to move a loved one into a care home, not previously through personal experience but as a nurse manager who chose to spend more than thirty years of my career in social care both managing homes and in an operational role for large companies. But, as a daughter choosing a care home and entrusting a much-loved mother into the care of that home was harder than I imagined. However, without exception, every member of Millway House’s team have made this process so much easier. My mother’s room is lovely and kept spotlessly clean, she absolutely loves the food and is very impressed by the fact that the chef has visited her, and whilst my mother chooses to stay in her room she is visited regularly by members of the activities team. Having worked with and managed many carers and nurses over the years, I have been very impressed with the care, kindness and support my mother has received; even when there has been a problem this has been managed swiftly and professionally and this is all I could expect. I would like to thank all of the team for making my father feel so welcome when he visits my mother daily; he already has trust and confidence in the team to look after his wife of more than sixty years. This could have been so much harder for him having previously been her full-time carer. I see that they can now enjoy being together without the pressures he had when caring for her, it is lovely to see. So my heartfelt thanks and praise goes to all the team at Millway House.

Overall Experience

I spent a very peaceful 2 hours with a friend who has been a resident at Millway House for a few months now.

All the staff I met and spoke to were professional, calm and really friendly and were quick in assisting when my friend needed attention.

I was able to spend unlimited time reading out loud to my friend (it soothes her) and the cup of tea offered was lovely.

In these days, when so much complaining and criticism takes centre stage, I wanted to leave a positive review and say a huge thank you to all staff at Millway House.

Review from D A (Brother of Resident) published on 4 May 2022 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
When, in October 2021, my sister could no longer look after herself I visited 7 care homes in my area. Of the three that my sister visited she chose Millway House. She has found life difficult since losing her independence and having to acclimatise to her new environment. All the staff that I have met have been most helpful and friendly in dealing with my questions and requests. Their care of my sister has been, in my opinion, exemplary particularly with the pressure that the Covid-19 pandemic has brought. I have no hesitation in recommending Millway House to prospective residents and their relatives.

I would rate my overall experience as very good but am unable to do so.

Review from Mike C (Son-in-law of Resident) published on 5 January 2022 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My mother-in- law moved to Millway in January 2018 suffering mild dementia. She quickly responded positively to the care and support provided. She was able to chose her room and again made it her own with pictures and family photographs. She was encouraged to join activities run by the care home staff and this helped her remain interested and alert.
Before the present Covid restrictions we were able to visit her regularly and to make trips out to a garden centre or pub for lunch. All the staff we have met, from the manager down to the care assistant bringing tea have all shown the same level of care and consideration.

The last 21 months have been difficult but meetings have been possible in a garden "hub" and the staff have arranged video meetings so that we can stay in touch.

My father went into Millway for post-cataract care and respite in the middle of October 2021. He has a lovely room on the second floor, and now spends much of his time in the lounges whereas in his retirement flat he seldom left to socialise with anyone. The staff we have met are all great and supply very good support to my father who is increasingly suffering from short-term memory loss. Whilst these are very early days for my father in Millway, he is well looked after and receives much more mental stimulation than living on his own, albeit in a retirement complex.

My aunt was transferred to Millway House from hospital after a fall at home. Since being at Millway House her mood has changed dramatically. She is very happy and the care and attention she receives is excellent. The staff are always very friendly and helpful and very considerate towards my aunt. The food is freshly cooked and a variety of meals offered. Sadly because of covid, I am unable to give an accurate review of her room only the areas I have seen. I would recommend Millway House to anyone who is looking for residential care for a loved one.
