Overall Experience

My mother was living independently at home until she was 98. It became increasingly clear that her house was no longer suitable even with adaptations. She moved to Oak Lodge four years ago, for a trial period, and quickly realised what the advantages were. A bright intelligent lady, I can honestly say that she has adapted well, maintained a reasonable standard of health, and thrived on the extensive programme of activities and entertainment provided. The staff have excelled themselves, particularly during the pandemic, with all the extra work involved. My mother is a kind, compassionate and outgoing lady, she understands and appreciates the apprehension experienced by new residents, and will help them to settle. I am delighted that she is so happy at Oak Lodge. This is because the staff, as a whole, have consistently shown great kindness, intelligence and understanding at all times, in looking after her, and communicating with us. We thank them all on her behalf.

A well-organised facility with a great management team and a wonderful group of careers. The purpose-built building allows different degrees of community and segregation and the rooms are comfortable and of a good size. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming and all the residents are happy and peaceful. Overall a great facility and one where my mother is well looked after. For management and staff ratings below there should be a category above excellent!

My mother has been in Oak Lodge for several years because of dementia issues. She has got progressively worse and is now bedridden. She has never been one of life's little angels and can be very rude and ungrateful. But I think that she is treated with respect and friendliness even when she is being very difficult. It cannot be an easy job coping with her behaviour but the staff do it willingly. There are few places where all the staff greet you with a smile whether they know you or not - this is a true accolade with respect to the caring atmosphere in the home. The place is really well kept up and really clean and not smelly!

My mother is well looked after, feels safe, is happy and enjoys the spirit in Oak Lodge.
She is well-fed, entertained and is stimulated during the day.
Her medical condition is monitored and she is quickly referred to a doctor if needed.

It makes me very happy to see her smiling and relaxed at this part of her life.

Prior to his recent death, my father had been at Oak Lodge for nearly four years. During that time he was gently encouraged to join in all the activities, never forced to take part and the team went the extra mile, purchasing equipment to ensure he could continue to enjoy his gardening activities.
Despite his mobility problems, he was always taken out on the many group trips. His tastes in food were respected, with options given if nothing on the menu appealed to him. He was always treated with respect and great care.
As his health failed, the staff could not have looked after him any better, ensuring he had everything to make him safe and comfortable. He was helped to eat and drink and with respect and patience, never was I concerned about his well being.
As his daughter, I was treated as part of the family. I was always welcomed with a smile and encouraged to attend events with my father, which has given me some lovely memories.

The home also has visits from a mobile barber for the men.

Having tried another care home where my aunt was hospitalised twice with malnutrition, I was very sceptical about care homes in general. How wrong could I be! I can't think of a single negative comment about Oak Lodge. Every member of staff is committed, caring and friendly. My aunt is truly content and all of her needs are met. She has her hair and nails done and even hand massages. She participates in activities, which I never expected. The staff went the extra mile to send me pictures of her having a great time in the Easter celebrations.
Everything is always clean, the food is excellent. My aunt isn't always very cooperative, but the staff take this in their stride.
I, as a visitor, am always made very welcome. I have watched the staff manage some of the very confused and/or disabled residents with dignity and patience.

Many more able residents are taken to the hotel in the grounds for morning coffee or afternoon tea, which is lovely. It is superb and worth every penny.

All members of staff treat the residents with supreme dignity, care and respect. All this achieved with a friendly smile and a joyful word. The residents are kept fully entertained with activities and occasional outings, while my mother is a particular fan of the extensive catering choices.

All in all, it is a very friendly, well-run home that leaves me confident in the knowledge that my parent is always amongst friends yet being well cared for.

Staff all very friendly, caring, helpful and professional. Senior management are very engaged with patients' day-to-day care. Very high standards applied to all aspects of running the home whilst at the same time caring for patients. Cannot speak highly enough of the manager and every member of staff that I have had contact with. The manager clearly motivates her staff and commands great respect.

Oak Lodge is an amazing care home and the manager and all her staff provide a wonderful caring environment. My mother is very frail and yet continues to be so well looked after that at nearly 96 she is still with us! This weekend we spoke to two members of staff who gave me such confidence that my mother is in the best place possible...both really made me feel that they really cared about my mother as an individual and not just as a resident!

Lots of small improvements have taken place during the time my mother has been there and there is no resting on their laurels. In my opinion Oak Lodge should be Care Home of the year!

Great premises and in lovely surroundings. Plenty of activities provided and the staff really do their best to get everyone to join in, without pushing or forcing things. Very friendly and attentive, they get to know the various requirements of each resident and in the main, take care of their needs. If there was anything to "call out" then I would like to see an even quicker response to the call button requests i.e. perhaps have someone permanently based in the barn area to respond even faster?

On my first visit to Oak Lodge, I was impressed by the well-designed modern facilities situated in pleasant, peaceful countryside. I have now been a resident here for over two years. I really appreciate the kindness, willing support and assistance from the staff who are well organised and work effectively as a team. I recently celebrated my 100th birthday at Oak Lodge together with over 30 good friends and relatives. I am very contented here and relieved to be free from the worries of living alone at home.
