Mum stayed at Southampton Manor for respite care following a spell in Hospital.
The staff were all friendly and helpful, trying their utmost to make her stay as comfortable and pleasant as possible.
I was impressed by the facilities here including the air conditioning in communal areas, which was great during the heatwave we were having. Her room was spacious with a lovely lounge area and view over the very pretty garden.
Everything here was clean and maintained to a high standard.

As her family we were warmly welcomed on our visits and being able to have lunch with mum (at a very reasonable cost) or sit with her in the bistro area made the visits much better.

Following a short hospital stay we were looking for 2 weeks respite care for mum. Enquired on a Saturday and had two excellent options. One could take mum straight away and Southampton Manor on the following Tuesday.
We were pretty much set on the first one we visited however thought we should visit Southampton Manor as well so we had seen them for future stays. We left Southampton Manor that afternoon having changed our minds - Home manager Karen showed us around this fantastic home and we knew it was right for mum even if we carried on the care at home for the couple of days before admission.
On arrival everyone was so friendly. And I mean everyone. The reception team were so welcoming and put mum at her ease from the very start. Mum wanted to eat on her own during her stay and that was accommodated in the lovely dining room. She had friends for lunch on the Sunday and they didn't want to leave.

We were very impressed - the building is great and feels more like a hotel! Thanks.

My brother had MND. He was young. Southampton Manor offered him a place when twenty two other care/nursing homes refused. The nursing and managerial team were amazing. You felt the care, dignity and love for the residents permeating in all they did and said. My brother wasn't with them long. In that time staff had training to help them care for an MND resident with proper understanding of the disease. Southampton Manor Care Home was the support and help we, as a family, needed. I cannot fault the nursing home. They were brilliant.

My 91-year old father moved into Southampton Manor in October 2018. For a while, he was very weak and not even able to control an electric wheelchair. Despite this, when he was strong enough he participated in many of the excellent and varied activities put on by the care home, making friends with other residents and staff.

18 months later, his recovery has been miraculous. He now walks indoors without even a stick, just using a walking stick for support when walking outside. This recovery isn't of course just down to Southampton Manor - he had a hip replacement and physio - but I believe the warm, supportive and fun environment of Southampton Manor contributed hugely to his recovery. I do not think this would have been possible at home - or in many other care homes. His health has recovered to the point that he thought it best to return to his home, though this was a difficult decision as he enjoyed life there so much. He is looking forward to a respite stay in a few months!

We cannot praise this wonderful care home enough. Our mum was here for over three years and in that time she was always treated with care, compassion, dignity and love. As a family it was always a pleasure to visit, we ourselves were always welcomed and made to feel part of the Avery family. We must mention the amazing staff who do such a wonderful job and often go above and beyond to ensure that all of the residents are happy. We are so glad that mum came to live here, we feel very lucky.

Mum unfortunately only had a short stay at Southampton Manor, having had to move from a residential home to one capable of nursing care. She was bedridden for this period so never got to experience all the excellent facilities. I was nevertheless hugely impressed with this carehome. The quality of the accomodation is first class, but above that their people are very high quality - welcoming, personable, competent and highly experienced, caring and capable particuarly when it came towards the end of mum's life.

After looking at a few care/nursing homes in the area, we decided Southampton Manor was the right home for my mum. From the initial contact to our last visit we were made to feel welcome and nothing was too much trouble from the caring staff, receptionist to management team, everyone went above and beyond. There are very good activities and entertainment everyday if you wish to participate, the residents are never neglected and if the carers have time will spend time with you in your room, everyone seems happy and pleased to make a difference to each resident. The location is also perfect with lots of lovely walks across the common and sports center inc a few pubs in walking distance. I would grade this home as excellent.

Excellent care and attention to detail by the medical staff and carers. My dad is bed bound and like a few other "guests" was unable to appreciate the entertainment that sometimes is available to other guests in the main area. Would it be possible for cameras to be installed so that the "entertainment" can be shown on the TVs in the rooms of those unable to attend, due to physical or medical inability to get out of their room. Just an idea that would offer inclusion for those who are bed bound.

We chose Southampton Manor after viewing a number of Care Homes for my Dad and he became a resident in July 2025. I also received a couple of personal recommendations from friends who had relatives here. The first few weeks were really tough for us all emotionally but the staff here have been so supportive especially to my Mum who visits every day. Dad is now on the Reminiscence Floor and the staff have been so kind and understanding. Southampton Manor has qualified nursing staff which was reassuring and important to us. The home is very clean and well organised with lovely areas like the Bistro and the Garden. There is a team of staff who organise activties and regular varied musical entertainment. Dad has generally settled well, is safe and well cared for at the home he enjoys the meals and often I stay and assist him. We have made lots of friends here staff, residents and their families which has helped so much. I have no hesitatiion in recommending Southampton Manor.

We were concerned that Joe wouldn't settle in a care home, but right from day 1 he seemed happy and at home. The staff seem really friendly and helpful and on the few occasions he has needed urgent assistance, help was very quick to arrive. Facilities are generally very good although the mobility scooter needs some repair, so he has his scooter in his room, which is not a problem.

Dad had been living independently and very active until approx 6 months before joining the Southampton Manor community. After a number of falls he made the decision that he needed to live somewhere where there was more help available. We visited several options but the reception from the staff at the manor made it stand out and after 3 visits (to address questions) he signed up. He has never looked back. He is well looked after by amazing friendly and caring staff. Thank you.

Our mother was a resident at Southampton Manor Care Home on reminiscence for 9 months until she sadly passed away peacefully in her sleep.
From our initial meeting/being shown around by the Client Liaison Manager and mum's assessment in hospital with the Dementia Care Manager prior to becoming a resident - We as a family knew this home was the right choice for mum. The nurses and carers on reminiscence were professional, kind and compassionate. The continuity of staff and sense of community really stood out to us. Nothing was ever too much trouble and they supported us many times throughout our journey with mum.

We would highly recommend Southampton Manor Home to anyone looking to place a loved one into a setting that offers peace of mind, a sense of belonging and wonderful staff that are trained in dementia care.

Karen SearleJob Title:General Manager

I have worked in the care sector for 20 years, 17 as a Registered Manager, going on to become Regional Manager for Southern Services for a further two years with the same Company.

To further my knowledge in care I then took a role as Operations Manager for a domiciliary care company which I very much enjoyed although I realised over a period of time that the interaction with families and residents was something I missed hugely so decided to go with my heart and back into a care home environment.

I am very focused on providing the highest standard of care here at Southampton Manor, an environment where the resident is at the centre of all we do and building on a sense of community for those who live, work and visit the home.

I have been here since September 2011, starting off as a care manager, I have always been involved in supporting our residents with their daily activities. I really enjoy coming to work each day knowing that I am able to make a difference to our residents lives nurturing their mind, body and spirit. I have always felt passionate to encourage equality within our community by finding the residents activities suited for their individual needs by adapting activities, giving them the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and talents.

We arrange various special events, entertainment and trips out of the community each week. We also encourage and support our residents to plan and organise their own activities whether it be hobbies or interests we will ensure a successful experience.
