Allington Court is a purpose-built dementia care home. The home is dedicated to caring for adults living with dementia, from early onset to more complex end-of-life needs, including nursing, residential, Parkinson's and short-stay care.

Everything is on one floor, and the building has a circular design. giving every room garden access and making it easier for residents to find their own way round. The home’s interior has been decorated to suit individuals with dementia, being colour-themed and including memory triggers.

With the help of their loved ones, staff build a picture of their life story and their likes and dislikes. Staff can then personalise care and help them live the way they want to. Communication and engagement is a big part of life here, too. So, if your loved one finds it easier to use signs and symbols to communicate, the team are happy to use Makaton.

There’s always lots going on within the welcoming community. Activities are run seven days a week and frequently join neighbouring Bupa care home, Tenterden House (offering nursing and residential care), for a range of engaging events and the occasional themed meal.

We’re just off North Orbital Road on the way to the M25 and there’s lots of on-site parking. Lye Lane is the first left after the roundabout with the Shell garage and Mercure St Albans Noke Hotel on it. There’s also a local bus stop a 10-minute walk away.

The staff are extremely kind and helpful both to my mother and her visitors. If she wants two desserts they let her have them. She is cleaned and cared for in a lovely way. She enjoys the food although sometimes fruit and vegetables are scarce.
Overall, the family are happy with the care our mother
receives.

Very caring, kind and easy to talk to staff. I found it very hard at the beginning, but there was always someone to talk to and a shoulder to lean on. My husband is always treated with dignity.

The staff are all very kind to both my mother and me. They encourage everyone to do what they are capable of. Today one resident is knitting, one is doing a jigsaw. Others are reading the newspaper together whilst others sleep. It is a very caring home.

My father came to Allington Court after a period in hospital left him unable to return to his previous care home. He settled in extremely well and quickly, and seems comfortable and content. The staff are caring and attentive to his needs, which is vital as his ability to do things for himself diminishes.
My sisters and I are delighted to have found such a good home for our father.
