This attractive and professionally managed care home rated Outstanding in ‘Well Led’ by the Care Quality Commission in January 2020, has been supporting the local community of Ware for over fifteen years. Established and purpose-built with a positive reputation, Westgate House Care Centre offers quality nursing, residential, rehabilitation and dementia care in a peaceful but central location.

The long-standing home manager, who has been in post for over five years, leads an effective and stable staff group. This, and exceptional in-house training, ensures a skilled and responsive care team to meet the changing individual needs and expectations of every resident. With a caring and compassionate team, where nothing is too much trouble to help residents settle into their new home, the family ethos and the warm relationships the staff achieve are greatly valued by both residents and visitors.

Westgate House has some highly attractive and charming themed day areas in which to relax or socialise; these include the Garden Café – a firm favourite for those who like to enjoy a coffee and chat with the morning paper, the Cinema room, a Reminiscence room, and Café Pierre. Comfortable bedrooms have their own ensuite toilets and washbasins and the home’s showers and bathrooms are newly refurbished.

There are a number of outdoor spaces including a sensory courtyard for residents to benefit from and a separate garden for spending time with friends and relatives.

The facilities have been designed to enhance resident care and quality of life, to optimise cleanliness and help minimise the spread of any infections; this includes a natural ventilation system, wood effect flooring, hand washing facilities in every room and the use of hand gel dispensers throughout the home.

My friend was admitted to Westgate after a stay in hospital. He had become very poorly and had been placed on palliative care whilst in hospital. Westgate were so fabulous admitting my friend into their care as he was going to require dedicated treatment. From my first contact with Westgate they were
so fabulous and understanding. My friend was in a warm, cosy room - every member of staff I met at the home was empathetic, kind and totally invested in my friend's care. I cannot rate highly enough the manager and her team - it's a very difficult sector to work in but Westgate offer dignity, respect and love at every level.

My 97-year-old mum went into Westgate House for respite whilst the whole family were on holiday. It was our first experience of a care home service and environment and we, as a family, were very anxious about how Mum would adapt and be cared for given she has always lived independently. I have to say
the whole experience far exceeded our expectations, from the regular email updates, feedback from friends who visited her and the discharge service was exemplary. The staff were particularly caring and had clearly put in a lot of effort to make her stay pleasurable so 5 star rating from us.

Everyone made my stay enjoyable. Had breakfast in the green room and lunch in the blue room with the other residents. Two staff members in particular are brilliant in getting everyone's mobility back and very caring doing so.

I cannot thank the staff enough. My mum needs total care/full care, I am relaxed in knowing that she is in the right place and that the staff have her wellbeing at heart. I can carry on working and looking after the rest of my family knowing Mum is being carefully looked after.

My mother came to Westgate House for palliative care. I thought the care home was almost new, very well decorated. Good facilities, cleaned and maintained to a good standard. The staff were always helpful and there regularly to monitor the residents. I thought my mother was very well looked after. Overall

I am full of gratitude for the care my husband receives. The staff are wonderful and I've never had to worry about my husband from the day he arrived at Westgate all these years.
The staffs are always friendly and he has very good relationships with all of them.

Our experience with Westgate House Care Centre was completely professional, caring and exceptional care. My mum was given 24-hour care with respect, dignity and compassion. Communication through the nurses and carers on Primrose Unit was also extremely good, which helped me to be able to do the right
things to keep my mum comfortable and calm. All other staff were very caring and helpful with all my needs and my mums.

I enjoyed my stay at Westgate House. The staff were lovely, worked together in teamwork. All worked hard. Unfortunately the food wasn't very good, very cold, some uncooked. Had issues twice due to food. Still haven't received the bannister. Which should have been fitted before I came home.

My wife is suffering from dementia that has made it hard for me to care for her. It was with reluctance that I put her into care. However, I am pleased that I chose Westgate House. The standard of care and patience shown by all members of staff is off the scale. I could not have asked for more and I

I was very pleased with the way the staff treated the residents and to get us back on our feet again, the physio was excellent for my recovery. I cannot fault the way I was looked after by everyone.

My experience at Westgate House was of mixed feelings. I must say that the physio lady was absolutely brilliant, she motivated everyone and made sure that everyone was tailored to what they can do. She was funny and deserves a medal and I have improved my mobility under her care. I cannot speak more
highly of this lady. The staff were good and the manager was excellent at following up appointments etc. The only thing that let this care home down was the food, which was no good. The food in the evening was cold and could not be eaten also several of the residents had a stomach bug that lasted a few days which also affected the residents' visitors/ The room was not cleaned every day, when they did do it, they never cleaned the sink or toilet. They used to mop the floor but there were still crumbs on the floor where they never swept up.

Excellent care over the 19 days my mum was with you. Her confidence in walking is much higher now than ever before her accident. All staff were friendly and welcoming to us both.

We generally visit at weekends. My father-in-law is in the secure dementia unit. By definition, this can be a tough experience. Our experience is significantly positively impacted by the welcome we receive from the reception staff. I wish this to be noted. The overall impression is of a high standard
of hygiene and cleanliness throughout. This is exemplified by the cleaning staff member we often encounter as she diligently and with care attends to her duties in my father-in-law's room.
