This attractive and professionally managed care home rated Outstanding in ‘Well Led’ by the Care Quality Commission in January 2020, has been supporting the local community of Ware for over fifteen years. Established and purpose-built with a positive reputation, Westgate House Care Centre offers quality nursing, residential, rehabilitation and dementia care in a peaceful but central location.

The long-standing home manager, who has been in post for over five years, leads an effective and stable staff group. This, and exceptional in-house training, ensures a skilled and responsive care team to meet the changing individual needs and expectations of every resident. With a caring and compassionate team, where nothing is too much trouble to help residents settle into their new home, the family ethos and the warm relationships the staff achieve are greatly valued by both residents and visitors.

Westgate House has some highly attractive and charming themed day areas in which to relax or socialise; these include the Garden Café – a firm favourite for those who like to enjoy a coffee and chat with the morning paper, the Cinema room, a Reminiscence room, and Café Pierre. Comfortable bedrooms have their own ensuite toilets and washbasins and the home’s showers and bathrooms are newly refurbished.

There are a number of outdoor spaces including a sensory courtyard for residents to benefit from and a separate garden for spending time with friends and relatives.

The facilities have been designed to enhance resident care and quality of life, to optimise cleanliness and help minimise the spread of any infections; this includes a natural ventilation system, wood effect flooring, hand washing facilities in every room and the use of hand gel dispensers throughout the home.

I was taken into Westgate House after a fall and thanks to the staff who were very friendly and helpful I am now back home. The physio lady used to oversee a Keep Fit Session 5 days a week to help residents regain their mobility using Zimmers - rollating along the corridors. The staff were like a happy
family and would help each other out.

When we first arrived we were welcomed by the manager and receptionist who were very friendly. Although my husband was only there for a short time we found all the staff to be very helpful, polite and respectful. The carers/nurses were very understanding, when you called for them there were no long
waits. The center was very clean and secure. In his final hours everyone was very understanding and caring, and treated him with dignity and respect.

I was referred from hosptial to Westgate House, Ware for physical rehabilitation after suffering from double pneumonia. Throughout my 3 week stay, I was made to feel very well supported, listened to and cared for by all the staff. Such a positive experience after two different hospital stays. I now
feel stronger, fitter and better equipped with getting my old life back for good. Everyone could not have done more, and can genuinely not rate the care any higher!

My father was a resident at Westgate Care Home and from day one, every member of staff-nurses, carers, activity coordinators, doctors, catering and housekeeping-has treated Dad with genuine warmth, patience and dignity.


Dad can be challenging and occasionally aggressive because of his condition,

yet the team consistently responds with calm professionalism. They de-escalate difficult moments, keep us fully informed, and-most importantly-maintain Dad's sense of self-respect. His medication is managed meticulously, meals are nutritious and tailored to his tastes, and the home is spotless and welcoming.

It has been a pleasant expierence with a high standard or care, professionalism and dedication. The therapy team worked hard to achieve the best possible outcomes to patients. I saw the progress made by other patients. This is an excellent facility for ex-hosptial patients discharged and to be helped
towards the next stage - home, care home, etc.

Being in Respite for a couple of weeks has given my wife a boost in life which other locations lacked.
Personnel are caring, responsive and treat residents with respect.
Expensive like most care homes but well recommended.

After a false start at another home which wasn't up to scratch, we were very pleased with the care my mother received until her death at WG Ware. The staff were kind and caring, and we could always find someone to discuss any matters. Not the biggest rooms or the fanciest decor, but look beyond this;
the care is most important.
Manager was very approachable and on the ball, perfect.
Weekday receptionist is an absolute star and a credit to the home. Do everything to keep her! I shall miss them both.

My wife's stay at Westgate was very pleasant. She was treated wonderfully by all staff despite being difficult at times and could be quite unresponsive. They were always cheerful and would call her name even if just passing by. The medical care was very good, and I was kept informed of any deviation
from the normal. Her end of life care was particular attentive and sympathetic (to me as well).

My mother transferred from hospital to Westgate House, where she received the best care. The staff are amazing, nothing was too much trouble. They were respectful to my mother and supportive of me.

Very pleased to spend time at Westgate House Care Centre, Ware. With a fractured elbow and my arm in plaster it was difficult for me to do things for myself, but the staff at Westgate House were always very helpful and nothing was too mich trouble. Always pleasant and helpful staff.

Mum picked up a lot better while her stay in Westgate. Her appetite improved and enjoyed her stay. Did not like going in the dining area as other patients non-commutative. Had some physio but to be honest has not improved her, came away with fluid in her lung which has got worse since home. Doctor dealing
with it.

Once again thanks to the care, kindness, encouragement and support of the whole team, my mum is up and walking again. The experience has been really positive and Mum (and myself) enjoyed our time at Westgate. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. It was a joy to visit Mum and was indeed like a family
here. The physiotherapy mum received was invaluable. Such dedication shown to get people moving again. Everyone from management to the cleaning staff were exceptional. Mum was very lucky and we appreciated our time there.

From the moment I arrived, I found the staff to be very welcoming and polite.
Patience and professionalism were shown at all times and nothing was too much for them.
The physio team helped me to achieve a lot more movement and were dedicated to push me to my full potential. I now feel much more confident
in going home.

Overall, my stay at Westgate was good. The staff were friendly and helpful, the only problem, I had was with the language, being mainly Asian/African Caribean and masks added to the problem.
The food was plentiful and quite appetising. Woken up for breakfast which arrived 30 minutes later!
Physio
therapists were excellent and encouraging.
I would not hesitate in recommending Westgate House Care Centre to anyone.

After a bad fall I was sent to hospital and then to rehab at Westgate House Care Centre. I was pleasantly surprised at my room and TV and the staff.
I have made such progress with the help from two members of staff in particular and they are also pleased with me.

I am currently here whilst my home is being altered so my current disability will be catered for on my return. The level of care is exceptional. Westage House Care Centre would be my first choice if or when I may need their help in the future. I have talked to a number of people here and they all agree,

The physiotherapy was enjoyable and I enjoyed the company of the therapists. As a result of their hard work I am walking better. The carers were sensitive to my needs and provided me with drinks regularly. It was very nice to have my own room and TV but I found the latter difficult to use because of
my eyesight. The food was tasty but occasionally tepid.

I arrived here as a service user for the 19-day physio rehab after a long hospital stay. The program run by the physio and her assistant is fabulous - I arrived having been on my feet three times whilst in hospital and I am leaving using only a walking stick and confident I will cope with basic activities
at home. All of the staff are friendly, hardworking and professional. The only negative is that staff ignore the 'support' sign when on the door and on three occasions entered whilst I was washing.
