This, and exceptional in-house training, ensures a skilled and responsive care team to meet the changing individual needs and expectations of every resident. With a caring and compassionate team, where nothing is too much trouble to help residents settle into their new home, the family ethos and the warm relationships the staff achieve are greatly valued by both residents and visitors.
Westgate House has some highly attractive and charming themed day areas in which to relax or socialise; these include the Garden Café – a firm favourite for those who like to enjoy a coffee and chat with the morning paper, the Cinema room, a Reminiscence room, and Café Pierre. Comfortable bedrooms have their own ensuite toilets and washbasins and the home’s showers and bathrooms are newly refurbished.
There are a number of outdoor spaces including a sensory courtyard for residents to benefit from and a separate garden for spending time with friends and relatives.
The facilities have been designed to enhance resident care and quality of life, to optimise cleanliness and help minimise the spread of any infections; this includes a natural ventilation system, wood effect flooring, hand washing facilities in every room and the use of hand gel dispensers throughout the home.

There were no activities for Rehab patients at the weekends. Too much time spent alone in room - though plenty time to rest. No recycling of items in room bins? Overall very good experience.

I cannot thank Westgate House enough for the dignified and professional way they took care of my Mother. She was placed at Westgate house following a stay in hospital for what turned out to be end of life palliative care. From the moment she arrived she was extremely well looked after. All of the staff, nurses, those serving dinners, cleaners, were all so friendly, kind and welcoming with her, and treated her with the utmost respect and dignity, chatting with her and keeping her happy. She was encouraged to be active and mix with the other residents until that was no longer possible which did her the world of good. Her medical needs were attended to efficiently and effectively, her room was always kept spotlessly clean. The nurses kept me up to date at all times with any issues and were always on hand if I needed them. When I sat with her all night as she passed away they were looking after both of us!! It was obviously a horrendous time for me, but their support made it bearable.

My weeks at the Westgate House rehab unit amounted to an encouraging and enjoyable experience. The expertise and kindness of the professional therapy staff were well complemented by the good humour and kindness of the overall staff. The physical and delicious varied meals all contributed to the healing aims, together with the friendly atmosphere among the residents. Visitors are welcomed as part of the care. The whole unit worked as a team, and any problems were due to a shortage of staff causing undue pressure. The overall atmosphere was always of concern for our recovery, to re-enable us for return to everyday life. With very sincere thanks from my husband, family and especially myself!

I would like to thank all the staff at Westgate House Ware for a lovely stay. I wouldn't have been able to go home from the hospital, they were thoughtful and kind as I was not in a very good state of mind and body, and I will keep doing the exercises. Thank you.

Since being here I have found that staff are friendly and do anything to help. Communication is very good. Carol feels all staff listen to what she is saying which means a lot. Loves having her hair done which she enjoys. Overall very pleased she is here

Knowing my friend for twenty-two years his partner my best friend passed in January. I have taken charge of his finances, his accommodation at Westgate is very good. As he has had a stroke, he cannot eat, join in activities. Overall everything is satisfactory.

My mother spent 19 days at Westgate House Care Centre and it was a really positive experience after a fall. The staff were professional and attentive. My mother also gained back a significant amount of movement in her arm and she started to regain some confidence with their support. Thank you

I stayed at Westgate as an NHS respite patient, following fractures to my lumbar spine. Overall, I would say that the staff at Westgate provide a comprehensive care service for their elderly, vulnerable residents. The staff were patient and friendly, the building was clean and regularly maintained, and the facilities were excellent. My rehabilitation through physiotherapy was excellent, the team being patient, understanding, and they literally helped me back on my feet. The only downside was Westgate's claim to cater for special diets, when they obviously could not. I required a dairy free/low wheat diet, which was explained thoroughly to the team, but I was consistently presented with food which contained dairy, was low quality, inadequate portions, poorly presented, and sometimes cold. Consequently, I lost weight. The menu system required each resident to choose from a verbal list presented by a time-pressured staff member, where I would instantly forget what I ordered. To Westgate's management credit, they did change this system to a written menu, so a copy was left with the resident, but the food quality didn't really change during my stay. If the food situation was better, I would consider long-term care at Westgate.

We also appreciate your honest feedback regarding the dining experience and special dietary requirements. We are sorry to hear that your dairy-free and low-wheat dietary needs were not consistently met during your stay, and that this affected both your enjoyment of meals and your weight. This is clearly not the standard we aim to provide.
Your comments regarding food quality, presentation, portion sizes, temperature, and the original menu ordering process have been noted carefully. We are pleased that the introduction of written menus improved part of the experience, but we recognise there is still more work to do to ensure residents with specialist dietary needs receive meals that are both suitable and enjoyable.
All I'll say is that my wife could not have been given better care than she received at Westgate House; it was second to none.

My review relates to the Bluebell Rehabilitation unit at Westgate House where I was transferred by ambulance from hospital in Stevenage. I have had a positive outcome while staying at Westgate House and all my needs have been met whilst there. The carers were well trained and carried out all their duties very professionally. Breakfast and lunch varied and with choice, were taken in the dining room by the more mobile residents. Exercises took place for an hour every weekday morning and practiced over the weekend.Two medical issues were treated successfully after being referred to the local doctors practice.
