I can't express the highest of care for my husband over a year and a half. The nurses, the care staff and management were second to none in every possible way. They were caring and made our visits easy . We can't praise them enough. My husband thought of everyone as family , which made it easier for
us. Well done Acacia for making my husband dementia journey easier to manage too.

Acacia House has welcomed my mum, who has a range of needs related to dementia and frailty, and given her a happy and safe place to be. There are so many staff who are always welcoming and supportive to my mum and to myself. The home has lovely rooms and space for visiting or spending time. The nurses
are always available to talk to for support and information. My mum has already made some good friends and is being cared for incredibly well.

My dad was admitted to Acacia House on September 5th with complex nursing and care needs. It was a difficult time for us, very emotional and distressing. I cannot praise the management team highly enough. They are exemplary. They have looked after Dad with professionalism and compassion: It is rare
to find both these days, sadly. And the support and care they have extended to me has been over and above anything I have experienced before. Thank you!

My father spent almost a month at Acacia House during the last few weeks of his life. He was terminal and deteriorating fast but I can honestly say that despite the circumstances, both my father and I were thoroughly pleased with the team, his room and his overall care. From the moment my father arrived
to the moment of his passing he was treated with dignity, respect and utmost care. The facilities are very clean and pleasant. The staff are patient and caring. They answered all of my questions and took the time to ensure I was kept in the loop with his treatment and medication. Overall, I am pleased with every aspect of his stay at Acacia House and would highly recommend it.
Reply from Cristian Tarus, Home Manager at Acacia House - TenterdenThank you so much for your kind words and for taking the time to share your experience. Our aunt stayed for three weeks and said that she had found her stay very relaxing. The staff were friendly, helpful and lovely to be around, they made her feel very welcome.
Her room had en-suite facilities and meant she was able to continue her independence at all times.
The food was very good
and a continuous supply of tea, biscuits and cake.
Before the stay our aunt was very negative about staying but has now said that she would definitely stay there again if she ever needed to.

I found the staff to be cheerful and professional. On the rare occasions I wanted to discuss any subject ranging from obtaining equipment to food requirements both the nursing staff and senior management were approachable and responsive.
When Dad had bouts of illness the staff communicated well and
responded quickly to the situation.
Dad's room was bright and airy and he settled in very quickly, forming a good bond with the staff. He found much happiness in his final few months and the family are grateful for the staff for making that possible.

My husband went in for respite care and sadly has not been able to come out. I have found every member of staff from the manager, admin, nurses, cleaners and all the wonderful carers to be engaged, cheerful and attentive to his and my needs. It is a pleasure to visit. My husband loves the home cooked
meals and the surroundings are always clean and tidy. If I think I have a problem it is always dealt with speedily and with care.

I have chosen February as a month to review, but really this is for all of the past months because what the incredible staff do is consistent and give 100% to all the residents in Acacia House. every day. This has not changed since my mother came to stay in February 2023. In that time, my mother has
been cared for in a kind and compassionate way . All the staff , from the managers , to the nurses, to the kitchen staff and caregivers are genuinely beautiful humans giving of themselves to help the residents on their journey. Thank you so much.

My mother has been a resident at Acacia House for the past year. During that time it has become apparent that my wife and I now have an extended family which we are so grateful for. From the management, nurses, carers, general staff including cooks, laundry maintenance to cleaning staff and gardener.
I have nothing but praise for them all. My mother is generally in her room but am aware that one to one activities are maintained. A huge plus for my mother, would recommend Acacia House to all.

My brother and I are very happy with the care our mum receives. She has been at Acacia for two years. The staff are very caring, respectful and attentive. We are kept up to date with any changes in Mum's condition and our wishes are respected. Management is very kind and approachable and I believe the
home to be well run. The food has improved over the two years and Mum is offered a balanced diet that is tailored to her needs. We're very happy with Acacia House.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.846) out of 10 for Acacia House - Tenterden is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 42 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 42 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.846 for Acacia House - Tenterden is calculated as follows: ( (412 Excellents x 5) + (64 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 481 Ratings = 4.846
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Acacia House - Tenterden is based on 42 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 47 registered maximum number of service users is 9.4, which has been reached with 42 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Home Administrator

How long have you been with the company?

Since May 2022

What sort of duties do you have at work?

Supporting our home manager, Cristian, to ensure the smooth, effective service of the home! Other duties include being involved in looking after the residents' and staff's mental well-being by offering emotional support, friendship and advocacy.

What is your work experience / what are your qualifications in the care industry?

Previously worked for the NHS as 111 Health Advisor & Dental Practice Receptionist, also with a retail background in beauty, management, sales, marketing and training. I went to university and began studying Psychology and Counselling while living with my elderly grandmother and her partner, who had dementia. I have further qualifications in Counselling Skills and management, and I am currently studying Level 3 Health and Social Care. I have previously worked in another nursing home, but I left to join Acacia House as our Activities Coordinator, providing a range of diverse, inclusive, and person-centred activities suited to each and every resident, whether on a group basis or one-to-one. This also involved sourcing and booking Acacia's entertainment from external providers and arranging group outings to exciting places such as local farms, aquariums, coffee shops, and garden centres.

Tell us a little about yourself (hobbies/interests, etc.)

I'm always really pants at these autobiographical descriptions, but I would say something along the lines of "Hello, I'm Emily, easily excitable, passionate, empathetic and a people person. I love animals, especially cats and other small fluffy things, and I also have a daughter called Sasha who is 6 years old. Sasha loves to come to visit Acacia and refers to our residents as "The Grandmas and Grandpas" and enjoys getting involved with the activities, especially the arts and crafts club and our musical madness sessions. She has made some firm friends, and one of the "Grandpas" has taken her under his wing. Hobby-wise, I have a few, but I am usually happy to give anything a chance. But I do love swimming, reading, arts and crafts and chatting with a coffee. I have a keen interest in getting to know people, animals, psychology, and just making people happy, really. I'm not too sure what else to say!

What do you enjoy about working in a Nursing Home?

I love the togetherness between the residents and staff - it is a real team effort here - no day is the same, and it keeps me on my toes! I really treasure the ability to be able to make such a difference in people's lives, especially towards their last weeks, months or years - it is important to me that our residents feel valued, important, loved and respected and that they are enjoying their time here at Acacia.

What is your favourite thing about Acacia?

My favourite thing about Acacia is the friendly, family atmosphere. Everyone is loved and looked after as if they were our own grandparents/parents/siblings. The staff members are warm, approachable and genuine, which makes everyone feel at ease and very welcome - nothing is too much trouble, and everyone is eager to help out when needed.
