My elderly friend had complex health issues and had been very poorly before going to Acacia House. He was able to enjoy a good quality of life during the years he was a resident to the care of the staff. On a number of occasions, he became unwell and his condition would rapidly worsen, but appropriate
medical attention was always sought quickly. He was very happy in the home. I am impressed with the care he received and have observed that the residents I have seen are also well cared for. My thanks to all the staff who do an excellent job.

From the moment that myself and my wife first saw our relative, we were most impressed.
I last saw her two years ago when she was significantly younger, but now she is much happier and more engaged.
I can only put much of this down to her current first class care.
One member of the care staff explained
the philosophy of the home and obviously knew a great deal about the individual preferences and interests of all the residents.

Everyone at Acacia House has gone above and beyond to welcome my grandmother and support her as she settles in.
Staff are always welcoming and happy to help with smiles and a cuppa.
We are reassured to know how dedicated staff are to her happiness and safety.
Acacia House has been the perfect choice
for our Gran.
Thanks.

My husband attends Acacia House for day care and the treatment he has received since day 1 has been outstanding. He is included in the events the dedicated staff put on for residents, which have included a summer ball and trip to Bewl Water. They have been so welcoming to him and supportive to me at
a very difficult time for both of us.

My friend initially came to this excellent care home for assessment after a prolonged stay in hospital which it is not an overstatement to say he nearly died.
At this time, myself and one other friend were at the point of 'caring' for him in ways that friends shouldn't have to, if you get my meaning?
Embarrassing for me and more importantly my friend.
My friend's excellent response to the fantastic care he receives at this wonderful care home means I can now visit him as his friend again (rather than a carer).
I don't think you can put a price on that. It is now a pleasure to visit my friend in a much improved health condition - which is entirely down to the excellent care he gets in this home.

I find Acacia House - Tenterden very accommodating and respectful of my father's care and needs. Everybody seems friendly and to take all service users needs into consideration (from what I see when I visit). Activities are varied and take all different physical needs into the programmes. Overall, my
worry (which is natural) is eased by the way my father is cared for. If I've ever had any concerns they are addressed straight away.

My father aged 89 has advanced dementia and doesn't communicate verbally but is very happy and smiles.
He loves listening to music and often taps his feet and sings in his own way.
He is very well respected and looked after by the staff. He is always clean and well dressed when we visit. His room
and bathroom is always clean and fresh. We feel happy in the knowledge that he is being well looked after and cared for.

I have visited my elderly friend several times now at Acacia house and am very pleased with the care he receives and the obvious happiness he enjoys there.

The staff are always welcoming and hospitable, they have a stressful job but they are positive and helpful. They know the residents well and

make the community spirit something quite real.

My friend is a widower and was quite lonely before he arrived at Acacia House. Not any more.

I took the unusual step of moving my Mother from a care home in a nearby town to Acacia House in May 2013. I visited regularly until my Mother's recent death and found the home to be friendly, customer-focussed and extremely caring.
My Mother whilst warm and engaging demonstrated challenging behaviour
and the staff coped admirably and kindly. The Manager leads by example and is responsive and helpful with any concerns.
My Father spent the last few days of his life here too. It is an older style house which has a homely and inviting feel. Staff are all aware of the status and needs of individual residents and tailor their responses appropriately.
I recommend it extremely highly from my own family's experiences.

My father was cared for by the Manager and her team from October 2015 until January 2017. He had vascular dementia, which is a very challenging condition to manage. He was looked after very well and the staff had a good relationship with him. He never showed any signs of fear; in fact, quite the opposite.
He enjoyed the staff popping in and out of his room, giving them cheeky remarks. The staff clearly liked him.

Dad was kept very clean and as well dressed as he would allow, not always cooperating with a choice of clothing, but that's dementia for you. He was also very well fed. If he was going through a "fussy" stage, the chef would often pop down with an alternative meal just to encourage him to eat!

Dad was treated with kindness and dignity. He was safe and secure. My family and I were able to visit him at any time, with no restrictions. When my elderly mother visited, the staff went out of their way to look after her, too.

Dad passed away peacefully on 7th Jan. Acacia House is a home with a heart.

My father is very well cared for. Despite having advanced dementia and being immobile, his needs are always met and he is included in as much of the activity and interaction in the home as possible. He is kept presentable, well dressed, clean shaven etc. The staff are caring and always ready to chat
to my father with a ready smile, even though he cannot engage in conversation. He appears very happy in the home and I am confident he is being well cared for.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.834)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.834) out of 10 for Acacia House - Tenterden is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 39 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 39 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.834 for Acacia House - Tenterden is calculated as follows: ( (376 Excellents x 5) + (64 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 445 Ratings = 4.834
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Acacia House - Tenterden is based on 39 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 47 registered maximum number of service users is 9.4, which has been reached with 39 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I am the Registered Home Manager

How long have you been with the company?

I have been working for Abode Care Homes since November 2015

What sort of duties do you have at work?

Day-to-day managing of the home, ensuring that the highest quality of care is being offered to everyone as well as making sure that my residents and staff are happy.

What is your work experience/what are your qualifications in the care industry?

I started as a carer here in 2015, before qualifying for my UK PIN in 2016. I was then working as a nurse on both day and night shifts. I was then promoted to the position of Deputy Manager and lastly to that of Home Manager.

Tell us a little about yourself.

I like peace and quiet, watching films, cycling, playing football, going on long walks and exploring the world.

What do you enjoy about working in a Nursing Home?

The fact that we can make a difference, and we can be there for people in need.

What is your favourite thing about Acacia?

It feels like a second home, a place where you make sure everyone is being treated properly and they are happy. We have a really good team, and they all work together to ensure that everyone is being looked after.

What’s your job title?

Home Administrator

How long have you been with the company?

Since May 2022

What sort of duties do you have at work?

Supporting our home manager, Cristian, to ensure the smooth, effective service of the home! Other duties include being involved in looking after the residents' and staff's mental well-being by offering emotional support, friendship and advocacy.

What is your work experience / what are your qualifications in the care industry?

Previously worked for the NHS as 111 Health Advisor & Dental Practice Receptionist, also with a retail background in beauty, management, sales, marketing and training. I went to university and began studying Psychology and Counselling while living with my elderly grandmother and her partner, who had dementia. I have further qualifications in Counselling Skills and management, and I am currently studying Level 3 Health and Social Care. I have previously worked in another nursing home, but I left to join Acacia House as our Activities Coordinator, providing a range of diverse, inclusive, and person-centred activities suited to each and every resident, whether on a group basis or one-to-one. This also involved sourcing and booking Acacia's entertainment from external providers and arranging group outings to exciting places such as local farms, aquariums, coffee shops, and garden centres.

Tell us a little about yourself (hobbies/interests, etc.)

I'm always really pants at these autobiographical descriptions, but I would say something along the lines of "Hello, I'm Emily, easily excitable, passionate, empathetic and a people person. I love animals, especially cats and other small fluffy things, and I also have a daughter called Sasha who is 6 years old. Sasha loves to come to visit Acacia and refers to our residents as "The Grandmas and Grandpas" and enjoys getting involved with the activities, especially the arts and crafts club and our musical madness sessions. She has made some firm friends, and one of the "Grandpas" has taken her under his wing. Hobby-wise, I have a few, but I am usually happy to give anything a chance. But I do love swimming, reading, arts and crafts and chatting with a coffee. I have a keen interest in getting to know people, animals, psychology, and just making people happy, really. I'm not too sure what else to say!

What do you enjoy about working in a Nursing Home?

I love the togetherness between the residents and staff - it is a real team effort here - no day is the same, and it keeps me on my toes! I really treasure the ability to be able to make such a difference in people's lives, especially towards their last weeks, months or years - it is important to me that our residents feel valued, important, loved and respected and that they are enjoying their time here at Acacia.

What is your favourite thing about Acacia?

My favourite thing about Acacia is the friendly, family atmosphere. Everyone is loved and looked after as if they were our own grandparents/parents/siblings. The staff members are warm, approachable and genuine, which makes everyone feel at ease and very welcome - nothing is too much trouble, and everyone is eager to help out when needed.
