The current manager and his team have turned the home around. They genuinely care about the families as well as the residents. They are very friendly and approachable and always easy to get on with.

The home is clean as are the residents no matter what time of day you visit, and the residents are a lot more relaxed under the current management team.

Overall Experience

My grandfather has been a member of the Acacia House family since June 2023, and despite the experience being very difficult for him leaving his own home after living 60+ years in the same place, Acacia House has made the transition seamless. I can’t thank the management team or the staff enough for the dignity and respect my grandfather continues to receive on a daily basis. I heard so many horror stories of care homes that I was very against the idea, but can attest that my worries based on my experience were unfounded. If your family member manages to get a placement here you are blessed because it really is an amazing place with truly amazing people working there.

Reply from Cristian Tarus, Home Manager at Acacia House - Tenterden

Thank you very much for your lovely review. Here at Acacia House, it is our mission to treat everyone as we would like to be treated ourselves, and it has made our day to hear that you are happy with the standard of care your grandfather receives. Hope you'll have a lovely day, and looking forward to seeing you soon.

I have been my mother's full-time and live in carer since my dad died last July. She missed my dad very much and is bereaved (still). The support, encouragement, professionalism and insight they of Acacia gave to my mum in care just for 3 days was exemplary and second to none. I cant thank you enough. Mum will be returning very soon, it helps me very much and she enjoys it too.

Reply from Constantin Tarus, Home Manager at Acacia House - Tenterden

Thank you so much for your kind words - we absolutely love having your mother come to stay with us for her respite care, she is wonderful and brightens all of our days. We can't wait for her next stay with us.

My mum has been a resident at Acacia House since 2020, and during that time the care has been everything I had hoped for. It was an extremely difficult transition for my mum at a difficult time for everyone during the pandemic. My experience with the staff from carers to management has mostly been very positive.
We have experienced some complications and difficulties with a person who visits Mum and this has been handled with a lot of care and even more patience by the manager of Acacia House.
The care staff and nurses are always so friendly and happy to accommodate any wishes for Mum, sometimes in difficult circumstances.

I am very confident that she is getting the best care possible. Thank you to the manager and his staff.

A warm welcome via phone, asking if it's okay to visit my godfather. On arrival, I was greeted with a smile from a lovely admin member of staff who offered me a cup of drink. Very friendly home. My exit from the home was extremely nice.

My father has advanced dementia. The manager, nurses and carers are caring, kind and patient. They seem conscientious and committed to maintaining and improving the service they provide. We receive a warm welcome when we visit. The home has a 'homely' atmosphere rather than a 'clinical' one. I feel my father is safe at Acacia House care home.

I love the friendliness of everyone, how you are welcomed like family and I can see a big difference in my brother. He is clean and happy and that makes me happy because I know he is being looked after and he is safe. I couldn't comment on food as I have not been there at meal times. As for drink, the staff are always giving him drinks.

My partner has been in care for a year now. He settled in straight away and the staff have always been smiley and helpful. I feel very happy with his care. They have lots of activities in which residents can choose to take part in or not. Lovely gardens too.

The amazing manager and all his staff here have been amazing! What a great family feel, they have all created. We call the manager our guardian angle as he has helped us with speed, kindness, compassion and security. He couldn't be happier with Acacia House. Visiting my brother was made a lot easier for me than I thought it would be. The management and the staff are second to none! Couldn't have wished for a better place for my brother to have his final days. The care and attention he received was amazing. We were kept informed of everything we needed to know without any problems. When my brother passed away they contacted me immediately. Value for money yes, but it was funded on the NHS.

My mum came to Acacia House first for respite. The carers at the home gave notice, so Mum had to stay. It was unclear for a while if she would be able to stay, but luckily for us, she did. 18 months down the line, my dad's health became worse, and he had to go and stay at Acacia House after coming out of the hospital. Acacia House has been amazing. We love the staff and can't fault it. If we do need to discuss something that may not feel quite right, we feel that we can and that it will be sorted.

I cannot praise the manager and his staff highly enough. They treat everyone with care and respect and are always so welcoming when I visit my husband. Review from Carol M (Ex Family Member) published on 12 April 2021 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My ex-husband went to Acacia House in September 2020. He has a downstairs room where he can see visitors through his window. This is all due to Covid restrictions. However, I have been in contact with him via phone calls and our son and daughter in law have been able to visit through the window. He is very well looked after, and the Entertainment Manager has filled his days with many activities as well as organising video calls where we can chat with him face to face. Our main priority was that he was safe and this has been Acacia House’s priority too. The staff are very happy to inform us of his health and well-being. He enjoys mealtimes and interacts well with staff and other residents. Overall he has settled very well at Acacia House which is very reassuring.

My husband was in Acacia House for end of life care. I was overwhelmed by the care and kindness shown to both myself and my husband. The staff were exemplary. They were checking on my husband very frequently to talk to him and see if he needed a drink or food even though he was barely conscious most of the time. I could not have chosen a better care home with more caring staff.

What is your job title?

I am the Registered Home Manager

How long have you been with the company?

I have been working for Abode Care Homes since November 2015

What sort of duties do you have at work?

Day-to-day managing of the home, ensuring that the highest quality of care is being offered to everyone as well as making sure that my residents and staff are happy.

What is your work experience/what are your qualifications in the care industry?

I started as a carer here in 2015, before qualifying for my UK PIN in 2016. I was then working as a nurse on both day and night shifts. I was then promoted to the position of Deputy Manager and lastly to that of Home Manager.

Tell us a little about yourself.

I like peace and quiet, watching films, cycling, playing football, going on long walks and exploring the world.

What do you enjoy about working in a Nursing Home?

The fact that we can make a difference, and we can be there for people in need.

What is your favourite thing about Acacia?

It feels like a second home, a place where you make sure everyone is being treated properly and they are happy. We have a really good team, and they all work together to ensure that everyone is being looked after.

What’s your job title?

Home Administrator

How long have you been with the company?

Since May 2022

What sort of duties do you have at work?

Supporting our home manager, Cristian, to ensure the smooth, effective service of the home! Other duties include being involved in looking after the residents' and staff's mental well-being by offering emotional support, friendship and advocacy.

What is your work experience / what are your qualifications in the care industry?

Previously worked for the NHS as 111 Health Advisor & Dental Practice Receptionist, also with a retail background in beauty, management, sales, marketing and training. I went to university and began studying Psychology and Counselling while living with my elderly grandmother and her partner, who had dementia. I have further qualifications in Counselling Skills and management, and I am currently studying Level 3 Health and Social Care. I have previously worked in another nursing home, but I left to join Acacia House as our Activities Coordinator, providing a range of diverse, inclusive, and person-centred activities suited to each and every resident, whether on a group basis or one-to-one. This also involved sourcing and booking Acacia's entertainment from external providers and arranging group outings to exciting places such as local farms, aquariums, coffee shops, and garden centres.

Tell us a little about yourself (hobbies/interests, etc.)

I'm always really pants at these autobiographical descriptions, but I would say something along the lines of "Hello, I'm Emily, easily excitable, passionate, empathetic and a people person. I love animals, especially cats and other small fluffy things, and I also have a daughter called Sasha who is 6 years old. Sasha loves to come to visit Acacia and refers to our residents as "The Grandmas and Grandpas" and enjoys getting involved with the activities, especially the arts and crafts club and our musical madness sessions. She has made some firm friends, and one of the "Grandpas" has taken her under his wing. Hobby-wise, I have a few, but I am usually happy to give anything a chance. But I do love swimming, reading, arts and crafts and chatting with a coffee. I have a keen interest in getting to know people, animals, psychology, and just making people happy, really. I'm not too sure what else to say!

What do you enjoy about working in a Nursing Home?

I love the togetherness between the residents and staff - it is a real team effort here - no day is the same, and it keeps me on my toes! I really treasure the ability to be able to make such a difference in people's lives, especially towards their last weeks, months or years - it is important to me that our residents feel valued, important, loved and respected and that they are enjoying their time here at Acacia.

What is your favourite thing about Acacia?

My favourite thing about Acacia is the friendly, family atmosphere. Everyone is loved and looked after as if they were our own grandparents/parents/siblings. The staff members are warm, approachable and genuine, which makes everyone feel at ease and very welcome - nothing is too much trouble, and everyone is eager to help out when needed.
