My husband has been a resident in this care home for nearly one year, initially in the nursing unit, then moved to the dementia unit, Memory Lane. We, the family, are delighted with the care and kindness shown to him. Nurses, carers, admin staff, cleaners and all staff work together as a team. The atmosphere
is warm and friendly. Visitors are made to feel part of the wider family, being offered tea/coffee whenever these are being served to the residents.
A special word of appreciation must go to the nurses and carers, whose patience and kindness are unfailing. I am always kept informed about any change in my husband's health or treatment. I warmly recommend this care home.

My mother-in-law went to Ashminster Home after falling ill at home and sadly passed away after about 4 weeks. However, during the time she was there, she was looked after extremely well by all the staff. They were all so caring and treated her with such dignity. We were always made very welcome when
we visited. The staff always kept the family informed of any changes in her health and nothing was too much trouble. I would highly recommend this care home to anyone.

Sadly Dad was only at Ashminster for 2 weeks before his death, but during that time he settled very well and was very happy. His needs were more than met ad our family were always made very welcome and the staff were brilliant - I couldn't have asked for more.
Thank you for your excellent care and
loving attention.

My daughter and I visited numerous homes in the Kent area in 2018 looking for a nursing care home for my brother, who would need 24-hour nursing care and was hugely impressed with the nursing staff and facilities at Ashminster House. My brother was a resident in their nursing care facility for almost
4 years and passed recently. The staff, whether nursing or domestic, showed the greatest care and love for my brother. He was extremely well looked after and because of his complex medical needs, the nursing staff would always call me and advise me of any changes to his physical health. It gave me great comfort knowing that I would always be kept informed and was able to attend hospital appointments. During the pandemic, I was always kept informed of the latest restrictions, and every effort was provided by the staff so I could keep in touch by Skype. I really can't praise them enough for their compassion and care of my brother, and also for the hugs and comfort they gave me during the end stage.

The care at Ashminster House has been excellent. Our father was there for 5 weeks he was very happy and always commented on how nothing was too much trouble. He was always very comfortable and the staff who cared for him were always caring, attentive and supportive. The home is scrupulously clean and
well maintained and we couldn't have wished for a nicer place for him to have his end of life care.

First experience of a care home for my 86 year old mother who after a period of time in hospital, following a serious fall and some respite required, I have been delighted with her progress. After five weeks of care, she is ready to go home. The staff have been wonderful. The choice of food and quality
was appreciated by mum and special thanks go to the general manager who went above and beyond. Would certainly recommend it.

My sister and I researched a number of nursing homes before making the decision to place our mum in Ashminster House. Mum’s health needs had changed rapidly and seriously so as to require 24-hour nursing care which could not easily be provided in her own home. From the start of the process we were very
impressed with the atmosphere at the home, the dedication of the entire team and the management and interpersonal skills of the General Manager. Our mum has multiple and complex health issues but she is so well looked after by the very friendly, professional and caring nursing team led by Unit Nurse Manager. She is treated with respect, dignity and compassion. We are always kept informed of any changes or concerns in relation to mum’s health. Her quite exacting dietary likes and dislikes are also efficiently responded to by the catering team! Our mum is clearly calm and relaxed at Ashminster House and we know that she is safe and in great hands.

My husband was in a very confused state and quite poorly, I can only say thank you to the staff and management who helped us to make the transition for my husband as easy as it could be and for us as a family. I will be forever grateful for their help. He continues now to improve and that is all thanks
to the care he has received. My daughter and I enjoy our visits, there is a lovely garden and always something going on. There are plenty of quiet places to sit as well. My husband is eating better and enjoying his food - I feel every effort is made to make sure the residents have everything they need.

Our dad came to Barchester Ashminster House in July 2019. It was Intended as a temporary stay however Ashminster has now become his home. The staff have helped the whole family adjust to the changes in Dad’s health and life. They have earned our trust as their care and emotional support for our father
has been fantastic. Particularly through lockdown when they have truly become part of his family. Through such challenging circumstances, we will forever be grateful for what they have done for him. As a family, we have forged a really close relationship with everyone there. They have always been open to suggestions and to changes even when thrown a few curve balls. There is always a friendly greeting and we always hear laughter when we visit or video call. Dad genuinely feels loved there and we can’t really ask for more than that. Did we make the right choice in Ashminster, absolutely!

On visiting Ashminster House, I found an extremely clean home. The carers are extremely helpful, professional and thoughtful and I feel I must mention the lady in charge of the carers who goes the extra mile. My sister is settled and enjoys the food, she loves the panacottas. Everything I saw was homemade
and looked appetising and tasty. They will try and make food specially if the patient fancies something, not on the menu. I cannot fault the care and feel my sister is definitely in the right place for her needs which unfortunately is palliative. They are doing a brilliant job during difficult times. Thank you to everyone at Ashminster for helping to look after her and putting my mind at rest that she is being cared for as it has been extremely difficult for me living in the Midlands and just visiting as and when I can.

This care home is absolutely superb, the staff there are friendly and helpful nothing is too much trouble, they generally care for everyone that is in there. It’s not just a job to them. The food the residents have is fantastic and you could go and have dinner with your relative/friend (before COVID)
the care home is always clean and tidy. The procedures they have in place in order to let you see your relatives during these testing times are second to none. I would highly recommend this care home to anyone.

My mum came here recently after not receiving good care from a previous home and I can’t believe the care she has received in such a short time - it has been amazing. The staff are extremely caring and to see the difference in my mum is outstanding. We feel so relieved that she is now happy and being
cared for as she should be. We have been well informed of her daily progress and FaceTimed with her and the staff have all been great. I would highly recommend this home.

My mum has been living here since 2018 and she been happy there - she likes most of the staff. Mum enjoys the food they serve. When Mum lived on her own, she didn’t care for her self and wouldn’t get out of her bed as she has dementia, but since she has been in Ashminster House, they get her out of
bed and gets her in the lounge most days. When Mum went in, she had lost a lot of weight, but now they have got Mum to eat. The staff have got Mum to join in some of the activities and coffee mornings.

Our dad has been a resident of the dementia floor for a number of years and has received excellent care. The home is always clean and tidy. The staff who look after him are an extremely important part of this care and for us their kindness and patience with him is invaluable. The consistency of staff
has helped dad feel more relaxed as he recognises faces and is not subjected to continual changes which would unnerve him. We are providing this review at a time when Ashminster is having to deal with unprecedented challenges due to COVID 19. For us, as a family, it is hard not to be able to visit our dad but the home were quick to set up a system whereby we ring and book video calls with him as often as we want. Each time we have spoken to him he has been surrounded by all the faces we know who regularly look after him which is a great relief to us and a credit to the staff that they are committed to the residents and staying safe so that they can continue to care for our loved ones.

My mother has been a resident for almost five years. All the staff know and understand her very well so she benefits form continuity of care. The communication between the staff and relatives is good so health issues are highlighted straight away. The range of activities offered has increased and this
must involve a great deal of effort. My Mum's religious beliefs are respected and the staff encourage her to join the Church services, which means a great deal to her. I am confident that my Mum is comfortable and very well cared for by all the excellent staff.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.618) out of 10 for Barchester Ashminster House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 12 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.818 for Barchester Ashminster House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (117 Excellents x 5) + (16 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 137 Ratings = 4.818
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Ashminster House Care Home is based on 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 12 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Hello, my name is Kim; I am delighted to join Ashminster House and be part of the Barchester family.

I was a single mum for many years, bringing up my two boys, who are now grown men, my eldest having given me three gorgeous little girls, who have become an enormous part of my life and bring great joy. They are also rather exhausting in a lovely way!

I have had a love of theatre and dance from the age of two, when I visited a dancing school with my mother and disappeared only to be found in a ballet class. Over the years, I have danced, helped out in the dancing school when I was older and performed in many annual dancing shows. At the age of 17, I joined an amateur theatre group, dancing in many musicals and pantomimes. At the age of 19, I moved to Surbiton, where I joined the most amazing youth theatre and have many happy memories of the shows that I had the pleasure of being part of, either as a member of the cast or as a choreographer at our theatre opposite Hampton Court Palace or at youth festivals overseas.

I have worked in many different industries over the years, which include financial, corporate, funeral/care and the arts, one of which was the Royal Academy of Ballet, which was a dream come true. After being single for 22 years, I met my partner Phil, who I have been with for 14 years, and we recently moved to our first joint home in Egerton, which brings us a lot of joy…..especially the Christmas tractors lit up which go through the village!
I no longer dance but still embrace going to the theatre, this time as a member of the audience, and can’t wait to take my granddaughters to share and hopefully pass my passion onto them.
