Eglantine Villa, once a private residence, is a carefully converted home offering nursing, residential dementia care, respite, palliative, Parkinson’s and convalescence care.

The home is made up of two separate buildings (Jasmine House and Lavender House) and is set in three-and-a-half acres of beautiful gardens.

A homely interior is enhanced by the use of a sensory room, social activity room, conservatory and large secure gardens. Ensuite bedrooms are well-equipped to ensure residents feel safe and comfortable.

Balanced meals can be enjoyed in the dining room overlooking the gardens, or in the privacy of people’s own rooms. There are lighter alternatives available throughout the day and birthdays are celebrated with a personalised cake.

Eglantine Villa knows that popular activities and stimulating interactions are a vital part of good care. It can also be a good opportunity for friends and family to spend time with residents. Having something interesting going on every day is very important for a resident’s general well being, as it helps to keep their minds active and improves their appetite.

Friends and family are welcome to participate in any or all of the activities at any time. There is an on-site activity coordinator who organises a wide variety of activities for residents to enjoy, whatever their abilities.

There are seasonally themed monthly events as well as regular activities such as music and movement, film shows, and arts and crafts sessions. The home also looks forward to local community and charity events.

My mother has been living in Lavender Cottage since February 2017. Since her first day, she has been treated with the utmost respect and kindness.
The staff are very kind and willing to help with answering any questions we have and also doing everything to help make my mother's stay here a very happy
one.
I would definitely recommend this care home to any persons looking for a placement for a loved one.
I know my mum is safe and being looked after very well.

Although my wife was only in the care home for one week before she died she was exceedingly well cared for. I think of this being the nursing home of a thousand smiles, visitors were always welcomed with a smile. This seemed to affect the whole atmosphere. Well done keep up the good work!

The family chose Eglantine Villa for Mum as the home had such a warm and friendly feel about it when we came to view it. We have not been disappointed with our decision as Mum is very happy and content there. The Manager, nurses, carers and all the staff do an outstanding job.

My uncle was admitted to the home last month when my aunt could no longer look after him.
He is taking a while to settle in and his behaviour is sometimes challenging but the staff are always friendly and pleasant and very patient with him. The home is clean with a friendly atmosphere and all the residents
appear well looked after.

My late wife resided in Eglantine Villa from the 8th of December 2015 until she passed away on the 24th of June 2016.
The standard of care she received throughout her stay was outstanding. The staff are well trained and motivated, and the management team is very supportive.
Activities are imaginative
and well run and there is a very happy and positive atmosphere.

Eglantine Villa is a very well run nursing home with a welcoming atmosphere. They are able to provide excellent care and support to my frail mother, who has significant mobility problems on a continuing 24-hour basis. The staff and managers are welcoming and approachable. The nursing home also provides
care in a separate unit for residents with a dementia-related condition and is able to deploy staff accordingly.

During the tenure of the new care manager, the standard of care has exceeded the previous good to excellent despite the disruption caused by the refit. The residents have been kept safe, happy and entertained. The improvements in the facilities will benefit all. My mother is coming to the end of life
and the staff have taken the family into their care and making things easier for us. We now have firsthand experience of the food provided, in a kitchen that awaits a refurb. Thanks to all the staff for the excellent care.

I cannot praise the staff enough for the wonderful care they have provided for my mother during her stay here. In these last days of her life, they have provided outstanding care to both her and the immediate family. I have now experienced first hand the excellent food provided on a daily basis and
the kitchen staff have been so accommodating. The care manager has been incredibly supportive at all times and I can only say a very big thank you to everyone (all staff in every department). This home is proof of what a difference outstanding care can mean to the lives of both the resident and their family.

Myself and the family are pleased with the kindness, caring attitude of the staff in Eglantine. Day and night care are excellent from what we have seen and heard in the short time that my husband has been living Eglantine. The activities are varied and encouraged although not forced. The food is to
a very good standard and varied. We are notified immediately if there are any health or any other issues. Eglantine seems to be a very cosy, friendly home from home with all my husbands needs met as far as can be expected. We would recommend Eglantine and rate it very highly.

The home is set in rural surroundings and has extensive garden and grassed areas. The management and staff are approachable and provide a caring, happy and secure environment. There are numerous activities organised by the activity specialists and other additional services are provided (hairdressing
etc.). It is proposed that the home will be having a make-over project in the very near future which will ensure that the facilities provided improved to an even higher standard.

From what I see and hear when visiting, overall general care seems satisfactory. Sometimes I feel staff cannot be bothered, they lack enthusiasm, but I am not in their position, so hard to call. I do feel sometimes more attention should be given to residents to sit and chat to them, but time may not
allow this. On a personal point, my mum is very quiet and finds it difficult to interact, maybe a bit of extra time and support would help her. Glasses and hearing aid have gone missing, which have never been found, this making interaction more difficult.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.787)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.787) out of 10 for Eglantine Villa Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 20 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.787 for Eglantine Villa Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (187 Excellents x 5) + (46 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 235 Ratings = 4.787
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Eglantine Villa Care Home is based on 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 49 registered maximum number of service users is 9.8, which has been reached with 20 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Bryony John

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2012

Hello - my name is Bryony, and I am the home manager at Eglantine Villa. I started working for Bupa in 2012 as a care assistant before moving into admin roles. In 2018, I knew that my real passion was for care and how it can make a difference in people's lives, so I did some additional training and became a deputy manager at a 100-bed care home supporting those with nursing and residential needs. I became a home manager in 2020 and have now managed Eglantine Villa since 2022 alongside a fantastic team of carers, nurses, heads of department and support staff.

My favourite part of my job is meeting new people, hearing residents' life stories, alleviating worry from families and watching how our residents can flourish in our care. Our residents become part of our family, and I’m really proud of the service we provide. I genuinely love my job; there is variety in my role, and I laugh every day with my team and residents. I would never do anything else.

Outside of work, I love travelling to new places or countries, spending time with my family and friends, going out for walks and listening to music. I’m a proud, fun Auntie to 4 gorgeous nieces and nephews and have a French bulldog, Beau, who you may sometimes see at Eglantine Villa, enjoying lots of attention (and biscuits!) from the residents.

Job Title: Clinical Deputy Manager Joined: 2025

I joined Bupa as a clinical deputy manager in 2025.

My career in the care home sector spans 15 years, beginning as a carer before progressing to deputy manager in 2016. After three years in that role, I took time out to return to education and completed my nursing degree at the University of Greenwich. Following this, I returned to the care home environment, once again stepping into the deputy manager position.

Working in care services gives me the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives every day. I am passionate about caring with kindness and empathy, learning from others, and feeling fulfilled through the work I do. I also take great pride in mentoring those who are new to care and seeing them grow into confident leaders within the sector.

Outside of work, I am married with two children—a boy and a girl—and I treasure spending time with my family, who mean everything to me. I enjoy listening to music and travelling, and I live locally to the home.

Job Title: Chef Manager Joined: 2021

I’ve been part of Bupa for over five years, beginning my journey as a kitchen assistant before stepping into my current role as chef manager. My career started in the hospitality industry, which I found both rewarding and enjoyable, but I reached a point where I wanted something more meaningful.

When the opportunity arose to join a care home, I realised it was a chance to explore a new direction—one where I could see the impact of my cooking every day. Getting to know the residents, hearing their stories, and working closely with the care team has given me a sense of purpose that I don’t believe I would have found anywhere else.

I enjoy the positive working environment here. Our home manager is always supportive, and we work well together as a team. The home’s location also suits me, allowing me to balance my responsibilities at work with my life as a devoted husband and father of three beautiful daughters.

I moved to the UK from Jamaica, and I’ve never had any regrets about taking that leap. Outside of work, I’m a big football fan—Arsenal is my team—and I’m genuinely passionate about what I do. Living locally helps me stay closely connected to both my family and the home.

Job Title: Senior Activity Co-ordinator Joined: 2024

I have been the senior activity coordinator for a year, having previously worked as a carer here at Eglantine for a year before moving into activities. I am a mum and a former preschool practitioner, so caring comes naturally to me. I have always had a passion for events, creativity and bringing joy to others. After spending time as a stay?at?home mum, Eglantine felt like the perfect place to return to work—both for my family and for myself.

I feel genuinely privileged to work in a care home setting and to be a constant presence in our residents’ lives. Having the opportunity to enrich their days and support their well-being is something I hold a deep passion for, and I pride myself on always going the extra mile.

My greatest passion and achievement in life is my family. Raising my six children and encouraging them to become confident, capable and kind adults has been the greatest honour. My friends also mean everything to me; I lost my mum at a very young age, and my friends have been my strength and constant support throughout my life.

I love all things dramatic, especially West End shows and events. I live fairly locally to Eglantine and am committed to helping build strong, meaningful connections between our wonderful home and the local community.

Job Title: Receptionist Joined: 2025

I joined the home at the end of 2025 and quickly settled into my role. My career with Bupa began back in 2011, when I worked as a receptionist at another Bupa home until 2018. After gaining further experience elsewhere, I’m delighted to have returned to Bupa in a role I truly enjoy.

Before entering the care sector, I owned my own public house, followed by a haulage business that I ran with my husband. In 2011, I made the move into care as a nursing home receptionist, later progressing to an administrator role with another company. My background in customer service, administration and community-focused work naturally led me back to Bupa, where I’m pleased to continue supporting residents, families and colleagues.

What I enjoy most about working in care is the residents. Every day brings new conversations, stories and the chance to meet different people, which makes the role incredibly rewarding.

Outside of work, I’m married with two grown-up children. I enjoy motor sports, reading, and meeting up with friends. I live just four miles from the home, which helps me stay closely connected to the community.
