More could be done to involve families and more activities for the residents are needed.
High turnover of staff, which is upsetting for some.
Reply from Tambara Vaccaro, Home Manager at Highfield Care HomeThank you for your feedback. We at Highfield welcome feedback so that we can continue to learn, strive and improve the service we provide to your loved ones.
We are improving our activity provision and communication with our resident's families. Staff retention is high on our agenda post-Covid. Again thank you for your feedback.

Although our brother's time in Highfield Care Home was to be short, the staff we dealt with from domestic staff and carers to the nurses has been excellent. All our questions answered and his care has been handled with dignity and respect. We found all the staff very helpful and friendly. In these hard
times of COVID rules, our brother's needs were all met. We as a family were very happy with the care and attention given.

Our mum has been in Highfield since July 2019 we can't express the care and support that mum and her family have had from the staff. Her care is second to none we are so pleased we chose Highfield Care Home. Nobody wants her loved ones residential care but Highfield is just the place for love, care
and support. During lockdown, we knew mum was in good hands so we had no worries about her. Mum is treated like one of their own.

I enjoy coming to visit my friend in Highfield Care Home. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The residents are looked after well. It is so sad I can't visit at the moment but I am friends with them on social media and I can see a lot of their pictures especially my friend and they are all happy.

I cannot thank the staff here enough for the care and support given to my mother-in-law she was here for the last 12 months and was looked after so well.
Whenever I visited the home, I felt part of the big family environment and was always greeted by friendly members of the team who always knew who
I was and who I was visiting and always had the time to talk to me.
I would not hesitate to recommend the home to any family looking for the same facilities that we were looking for.

My mother was transferred to this home from a hospital in the West Midlands, where she had been on end of life care. She has probably two weeks to live. This happened in March 2018 here we are 10 months later and she is still with us. This is due to the care and love shown by all the staff. The surroundings
may appear a bit shabby but the care is first class.

My grandmother came into the home in May 2018 from hospital. I was told she only had about three months left and she would be bed-ridden and never walk again.
Now, nine months on, she is still with us, singing, dancing, playing games with the staff and has made friends of some of the female residents.
Instead of sitting in her room by herself every day, she now sits in the lounge all day with her friends.

My mother-in-law has been a resident at Highfield for nearly two years and in that time, has always received first class care and attention. The staff are very dedicated and always appear happy and proud of their work.
I would recommend this care home to all who are looking to relocate any elderly
relations in order to maintain their dignity in their later years.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.407)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.407) out of 10 for Highfield Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.807 for Highfield Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (70 Excellents x 5) + (10 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 83 Ratings = 4.807
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.6 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Highfield Care Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.6
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 34 registered maximum number of service users is 6.8, which has been reached with 7 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
