I was recently in England to visit my Mum who has been in your care home Highfield (Bekesbourne) now for almost two years. We couldn't wish for her to be in a more serene and lovely place. The staff are just wonderful, so very friendly from the moment we entered to when we left, my Mum is being treated
so well by all the team there. She enjoys all the activities especially the singing and the music man on a Tuesday. We are very lucky to have her there. The food looks and smells delicious and my Mum enjoys it.
Thanks to all the cooks and kitchen staff, they do a wonderful job, as do all the staff. Wishing you all the very best and thank you all for taking such good care of my Mum. Hello to all the residents I met and to all the staff. Keep up your good work.
Many thanks, best wishes and kind regards to you all.

The staff are kind and friendly. The food is good and varied drinks are regularly provided to the rooms and visitors are able to use tea and coffee making areas in the kitchen. Cleanliness and hygiene are good. My only issue is that regular visitors are not allowed to know the entry code. Having to
be admitted by staff is time-consuming for everyone.

The standard of care is exceptionally high and residents are treated well and as individuals. As much dignity as possible is afforded to residents and my father has improved in his wellbeing since living there. Above all, the staff are truly fantastic, from the housekeeping, food, staff, nurses and
entertainment coordinator, everyone has a positive, friendly and caring nature.
I am extremely impressed by all the staff and grateful to them all.

I have visited a lot over the last couple of months at different times of the day and night.
All the staff are friendly and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. My mum came here for respite and wanted to stay indefinitely. That says it all.

I come to see my mother as often as possible as I live in Spain, saying that, I am usually here 8 out of 12 months. Every time I come, I have to say I find the staff and management extremely kind and always very helpful. The food always looks appetising and everyone is extremely cheerful. I don't think
my mum could be in a better place.

Very happy to recommend the home after our visit we were very impressed. Our aunt looked so well looked after, beautifully clean and tidy. The home was inviting as you entered, very welcoming. We met the entertainments lady she welcomed us and was so friendly, what a lovely character. I watched her
interact with the residents who clearly enjoyed her company.

From the start of my wife's residence, I was impressed by the kindness and attention to both residents and their visitors. Since her admittance last August, I have sat with her daily because I wanted to be with her (we have been married 65 years) and I did not want her to feel she was entire with a
strange environment, but during the past few days I have taken time out to be with my brother and his daughter from Canada and I have felt secure that my wife is with friends and she is in good care.

My 92-year-old mother came to Highfield in April 2015.
She was CHC fast-tracked by the hospital and very frail, underweight, had pressure sores - we were very concerned about her.
Highfield's excellent care nursed her back to health, and she has enjoyed a good standard of life for the past two years.
I
know all the staff and they are always receptive to my concerns or requests for Mum's care.
Her health is now starting to fail, and I have been impressed with the level of care and kindness shown to her and to me at this time.
I have marked it good because Highfield is still improving its facilities but the most important element - the care - is excellent.

My wife passed away here a few years ago. The standard of care she received was so good that I became friendly with all the staff and also with a number of residents and I still visit a certain resident who has a connection with me. When you come into this home you feel the love and affection which
abounds here.
The manager ensures that all the necessary criteria are rigidly adhered to and I think that this care home is a template of how a home like this should be run.

I have have been happy with Highfield Care Home with the exception of one significant even concerning my mother's safety/safeguarding, this has been addressed and I am now satisfied.
There have been significant efforts to improve and my mother seems well looked after and is as comfortable and content
as she can be at this difficult time for her.

The building has character and in beautiful surroundings. With such an older building there are maintenance issues. My mother is very happy, well fed, encouraged to be independent. She has been in the home for three years.
The staff have always been polite to my mother and to myself when I visit. I
always feel welcomed into the home.

I came here in January 2014, aged 65. Since then I have been extremely well looked after. I have MS and many other problems. When my legs became ulcerated, the nurses cared for them and still do. There are no activities at present as the person who arranges this has been in the office. There are no
funds for anything anyway. However, apart from this, I have no other complaints. The carers are mostly very young now, but they are all very kind, conscientious and good at their jobs. The cleaners work extremely hard to keep this old building clean and hygienically safe.

Current Review Score: 8.6 (8.603)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.6 (8.603) out of 10 for Highfield Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.368 for Highfield Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (30 Excellents x 5) + (18 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 57 Ratings = 4.368
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.235 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Highfield Care Home is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 34 registered maximum number of service users is 6.8. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 6.8 = 0.735
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
