I found the service that my mother received was beyond excellent and I truly believe her last days of her life were the most happy. She loved the staff and enjoyed the entertainment as I did when visiting her.

My father was a resident at Poplars Care Centre for six years and had a room in willow and magnolia units. During this time, the day to day care was very good. Any questions or concerns were addressed by the staff most of the time, with exception by the manager, when the staff were not able to assist.
This is a busy home and the carers do their best, with some individuals going above and beyond. Now the home has a new manager, it is hoped any small deficiencies can be improved to make this an excellent care home.

I would like to thank everyone who works at The Poplars. My mum was admitted to the home on 29/1/20 with dementia and bowel cancer but sadly she died on 31/5/20. The nurses and carers have been superb. Also, the kitchen staff and cleaners. The manager has been very considerate in accepting my mum in
the first place.

My mother entered Poplars 18 months ago for end of life care. It is a testament to the staff that she didn't die for 18 months. The staff's care for my Mother was superb. She even managed to form close relationships with some of them. She was happy, secure, and well cared for. Only very recently developing
bedsores. The staff was caring and supportive of her family too. We were unable to visit during her last month and she became ill and died. The staff kept us informed and were with her at the end. Thank you Poplar's staff.

From the moment I walked in to view Poplars, I was greeted with smiles, information and reassurance. I knew straight away it had a lovely feel. My Mum, who had come from hospital was cared for and loved by the staff and I am sure made my Mum's last months happy and comfortable. Myself and my sister
felt part of the family and was always made to feel welcome and that nothing was too much trouble. Thank you.

From when I entered The Poplars I was always greeted and was made welcome. The staff are amazing and went the extra mile. My Mum was looked after and happy. They helped relieve stress at a difficult time. I will miss them as I feel over the month I got to know them. My mum enjoyed the entertainment
and always had a smile. Thank you Poplars.

My dad was in the poplars for only a few weeks but in that time the staff looked after him so well and gave him the end of life quality care he needed. They kept in touch about Dad's day to day condition, had time for my questions and were very sympathetic, especially at the end. Very reassuring to
know Dad passed with dignity and comfort. Being so far away I cannot fault the attention from the staff to my dad. It seemed everyone knew my dad in such a short time and I truly appreciate their kindness.

Exceptional care given to my mum throughout her stay of 3 years. Staff show, kindness, professional, and most of all they listen to the needs/wants/hopes of their residents. Even when my mum was passing, allowing family to be with her, showing us dignity and kindness through this time.

Our Mother had the very best of care in The Poplars Nursing Home, Tonbridge Road. She spent 22 months there and we always were encouraged to visit Mum at any time - open house - and the staff were very approachable and friendly.

After years of caring for my mother at home, it came a time when she required more care than I could provide. It was a difficult decision to make but I knew this would be the best thing for her. She moved into The Poplars Care Home and was with them for 10 months before she sadly passed away.
There
are no words that could thank the staff enough for their kindness, care and love they showed my mother. Whatever time I arrived, she was always clean and comfortable. The last few months, she was bedridden and it was with their intense nursing care, she did not have one bed sore. The men and women that work for The Poplars put their hearts and souls into their work, which we know, is not always easy. I shall be forever grateful to them all, knowing my mother’s last few months were made as comfortable as possible. Thank you all from my heart.

My lovely 88-year-old Dad was only here a week, the palliative care he received was second to none. The nurses looked after him so well, and also made sure my Mum, who wouldn't leave his side was looked after with lots of cups of tea and sandwiches.
I couldn't recommend this nursing home more in what
was such a difficult time for us all.

My friend was transferred to The Poplars for end of life care and spent 10 days in this lovely home. The staff were wonderful, so caring, and helped to make a difficult time so much easier to deal with. My friend was so peaceful at the end and I am so grateful he was able to spend his final days in
a home that delivered what they advertised, such professional care - thank you all.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.500)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.500) out of 10 for The Poplars Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 34 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 33 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.500 for The Poplars Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (265 Excellents x 5) + (106 Goods x 4) + (15 Satisfactorys x 3) + (6 Poors x 2) + (12 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 404 Ratings = 4.5
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Poplars Care Centre is based on 33 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 71 registered maximum number of service users is 14.2, which has been reached with 33 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
