Overall Experience

Dad moved into Abbeycrest only recently, after a less than satisfactory experience at another home. The professionalism and efficiency of the administrative staff at Abbeycrest from the minute I first contacted them has been outstanding. The fact that I was in another country at the time of the transition did not matter at all. They organised a video call within 24 hours of me contacting them and very quickly put a process in place to help Dad move as soon as possible and answered all my questions professionally, honestly and in detail. The speed at which Dad has settled in and the staff have got to know him is a pleasure to see. It is a big endorsement of the quality of all the staff at Abbeycrest. From being withdrawn and depressed Dad is now taking part in the daily activities and enjoying watching television with the other residents in the lounge. Thank you so much everyone at Abbeycrest, all your efforts to help Dad's move be as easy as possible are greatly appreciated.

Visited a friend today. The home looked very clean and smelt very fresh. The reception staff helpful and quick to respond. Refreshments offered were well received when our friend had her lunch. The gardens showed signs of the heat and the tubs looked in need of a change of plants. Having worked as a deputy manager for over 15 years in various care homes, it was very good to see the residents were put first and treated individually.

I just think the home is perfect for my wife who has Alzheimers. Abbeycrest is more like a hotel than a nursing home. The carers and staff are amazeing and she seems better now than when she moved into the home 2½ years ago. Which says it all

The staff are always friendly and courteous on arrival. They also are aware of our names on arrival, which is lovely. My mum is always clean and dressed whenever we arrive, which is good to see. Her care and the care staff are always attentive, pleasant and very patient with all the residents. It always has a pleasant and calm ambience whenever you go. I am very happy with the care my mum is getting.

From the moment I met Tamina, Sue and Kayleigh. I knew we were at the right place. Their knowledge and clear, calm approach and out problems with mum were sorted out quickly and efficiently.

Sue was able to get mum discharged from hospital and at Abbeycrest within a day of me speaking to her and it was such a relief to have someone to help. The team continue to help and mum is so much stronger. I couldn't praise them all highly enough.

Our mother moved directly from hospital to Abbeycrest, Sue the manager, visited her beforehand and made the whole process seamless and compassionate. She is so supportive, Tamena has also been very helpful and talked me through the care home system.
More latterly, both Sue and Tamena have been extremely helpful in explaining local authority care home funding and payments.
Additionally, all the nursing and caring staff have been absolutely marvelous and my mother feels safe and secure at Abbeycrest.

Lastly, Kayleigh on reception is always a breath of fresh air and is always keen to help.

My husband was in hospital for twenty one days in a ward which was quite noisy and little privacy, but the nurses were amazing and I was relieved and overjoyed when I met a lovely lady, Sue, who told me about Abbeycrest, where my husband would be quite welcome and very well looked after with his own private room and bathroom. The staff are so welcoming and friendly, and nothing too much trouble, and it's set in glorious surroundings. Amazing really that our eldest daughter, Abby, only lives 4 mins away and her husband's parents 30 seconds away. We went there Christmas Day!

Honestly feel they all do an excellent job in difficult circumstances. From the receptionists and cleaners and maintenance staff. Through the carers and nurses and the managers. All work hard, create a warm and friendly atmosphere.

One suggestion I would have us for there to be more activities that focus on movement, exercise and strength for the residents. I feel it would help all who do it physically and mentally.

Reply from Stuart Lamacraft, Reviews Team at Abbeycrest

Thank you for your thoughtful feedback. We truly appreciate your kind words about the whole team and the warm atmosphere they work hard to create every day. We also value your suggestion regarding more movement and exercise-based activities and will take this on board as we continue to enhance our wellbeing programme for residents.

My wife has been a resident here for six years now. She needs 24/7 care, being limited to bed and wheelchair. Her speech is very limited, and she can't feed herself or chew food.
The staff cover all of this. The medical staff manage her medicines and regular body checks reliably and keeps the family informed.

The garden and green location are major advantages. Despite her limited life, my wife remains smiling and cheerful on the whole.

Lovely place to visit - fresh, bright and airy. Plenty of reception rooms to choose from and a lovely garden with aviary.
Care and food good. Lovely carers.
Reception/management staff always available - apart from at weekends - sometimes someone sits at the reception desk but very often people stand waiting for the door to be opened (there is a key pad opposite the sign in books)

Carers regularly speak in their own language, meal times, in corridors, and occasionally with residents, sometimes they are very difficult to understand.

Sue Smart
Sue SmartJob Title:Home Manager

As Home Manager, I believe that our residents should receive the very best bespoke care and support they require to meet their needs, whilst making each day memorable.

I have been blessed to have a very successful career working in the health and social care sector with over 30 years of experience. I trained as a nurse in Hertfordshire and have maintained my registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. After qualifying, I worked in A&E before stepping into the community in 2003, where I managed domiciliary care, including complex care as clinical lead and then into care home management.

It is important to me that my team feel valued and supported in their roles, as well as having the opportunity to develop, so that our home can thrive and be a happy and beautiful home for everyone.

At Abbeycrest, we are one big family, and everything we do is from the heart, treating the people living in our community as individuals, understanding their choices, wishes and dreams for no other reason than to make a difference every day.
