Honestly feel they all do an excellent job in difficult circumstances. From the receptionists and cleaners and maintenance staff. Through the carers and nurses and the managers. All work hard, create a warm and friendly atmosphere.
One suggestion I would have us for there to be more activities that
focus on movement, exercise and strength for the residents. I feel it would help all who do it physically and mentally.
Reply from Stuart Lamacraft, Reviews Team at Abbeycrest Nursing HomeThank you for your thoughtful feedback. We truly appreciate your kind words about the whole team and the warm atmosphere they work hard to create every day. We also value your suggestion regarding more movement and exercise-based activities and will take this on board as we continue to enhance our wellbeing programme for residents.

My brother is in full time care at Abbeycrest. He has settled well with the time, care, and support of all the staff. They have all listened to me understand his needs and always keep me updated on him. I could ask for no more at all times. I feel my brother is safe and well cared for. The staff go
out of their way to support him in his needs, always chatting to him and getting him to activities he wishes to do. Thank you to all the staff.
Reply from Stuart Lamacraft, Reviews Team at Abbeycrest Nursing HomeThank you for your kind and thoughtful feedback. Lovely place to visit - fresh, bright and airy. Plenty of reception rooms to choose from and a lovely garden with aviary.
Care and food good. Lovely carers.
Reception/management staff always available - apart from at weekends - sometimes someone sits at the reception desk but very often people stand
waiting for the door to be opened (there is a key pad opposite the sign in books)
Carers regularly speak in their own language, meal times, in corridors, and occasionally with residents, sometimes they are very difficult to understand.

My wife has been a resident here for six years now. She needs 24/7 care, being limited to bed and wheelchair. Her speech is very limited, and she can't feed herself or chew food.
The staff cover all of this. The medical staff manage her medicines and regular body checks reliably and keeps the family
informed.
The garden and green location are major advantages. Despite her limited life, my wife remains smiling and cheerful on the whole.

My mother has been a resident here for over three years now, and the difference this home has made to her comfort and wellbeing is remarkable. The staff are exceptional - consistently kind, patient, and attentive. They take the time to understand each resident as an individual, not just a set of care
needs. Communication with families is thoughtful and reassuring, and the home itself feels warm, calm, and welcoming. I have complete trust in the team, and I'm truly grateful for the outstanding care they provide to my mother every single day.

We recently had to find a long term nursing home for my elderly mother in law following a fall and time in hospital. Abbeycrest was by far the best in the area. We as a family are extremely impressed with the level of care and compassion shown to not just her but us as a family. Her deterioration has
been swift and at times challenging, we have been involved in every care decision made, being given full information and compassion for what is not an easy situation.
The home itself is purpose built, beautifully set out, spotlessly clean. The staff are amazing, always friendly, nothing is too much bother, all acting with respect and professionalism

Abbeycrest provides an excellent environment for all those needing care - and particularly for residents living with dementia. All the staff I've interacted with come across as compassionate, patient, and highly professional. They take the time to understand each resident's individual needs. They
treat everyone with dignity and respect and this creates a calm and welcoming environment.

The home itself is clean and comfortable with a warm atmosphere that helps residents feel safe and settled. The food is great!

Communication with families is clear and supportive and this gives us real peace of mind.

I would highly recommend this care home to anyone seeking a reliable, caring, and well-managed environment, especially for those requiring dementia care.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.786)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.786) out of 10 for Abbeycrest Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 58 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 58 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.786 for Abbeycrest Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (535 Excellents x 5) + (121 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 667 Ratings = 4.786
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Abbeycrest Nursing Home is based on 58 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 70 registered maximum number of service users is 14, which has been reached with 58 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

“As Home Manager I believe that our residents should receive the very best bespoke care and support they require to meet their needs, whilst making each day memorable.

I have been blessed to have a very successful career working in the health and social care sector with over 30 years of experience. I trained as a nurse in Hertfordshire and have maintained my registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, after qualifying I worked in A&E before stepping into the community in 2003 where I managed domiciliary care including complex care as clinical lead and then into a care home management.

It is important to me that my team feel valued and supported in their roles, as well as having the opportunity to develop so that our home can thrive and be a happy and beautiful home for everyone.

At Abbeycrest, we are one big family and everything we do is from the heart, treating the people living in our community as individuals understanding their choices, wishes and dreams for no other reason than to make a difference every day.”

I grew up locally and even went to school up the road, I moved away to undertake my nurse training and am pleased to be back in the local area. It is important to me and the team that Abbeycrest is part of the Sonning Common community. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, I love to travel and have been fortunate to visit many countries around the world.”
