Myself, other family members and friends have all been impressed by the quality of care and nursing support given to my wife at Abbeycrest. All the staff are very attentive and seek to create a positive and happy environment for the residents. The physical space is very pleasant and well-maintained
with garden areas where residents can enjoy fresh air and sunshine. The food is always good with plenty of variation in the menus. I will happily recommend Abbeycrest to anyone seeking respite or residential care.

Everyone at Abbeycrest has been so friendly and helpful with my father. Having looked at several homes prior to making the decision for him to go here I have absolutely no doubt he is in the right place and being well looked after.
Thank you to all of the hard-working team.

From the start of the process in finding the right care for my mother, Abbey Crest has been helpful and supportive. They explained all the options and helped guide the right type of support that was needed.
They were fantastic on arrival and throughout the first weeks of the change, providing updates
and clarifications where needed.
They have been supportive and proactive in their help and care. I would not hesitate to recommend them.

Dad is well cared for. The home has a high quality of care and looks out for all his needs. The staff are polite and helpful at all times. The home is well-tended, clean and well-maintained. Although expensive I don't think it is more expensive than similar homes around the area and I wouldn't hesitate
to recommend Abbeycrest.

My friend has been living at Abbeycrest for over a year now and is very happy, we have no worries at all, her care is so good, she is always clean and dressed nicely, the food is good, she was 102 years old yesterday, so I think that speaks volumes for how well she is looked after, I always recommend
Abbeycrest to anyone looking for respite or longer care.

Out of all the care homes I visited in the area I had the best feeling about Abbeycrest. As soon as I walked in there was a calm atmosphere, everywhere was clean and bright. The nurse came and introduced herself to give me the reassurance around the care she would provide my father. The outside space
was lovely with green areas to walk around. All the staff were very professional but friendly with it. I just wished my father had been well enough to enjoy some of the facilities as I know he would have loved the garden area with the bird aviary. Also the staff were very respectful and kind when my father passed away and took all the pressure away around contacting the funeral home and doctor, which was much appreciated. I would recommend Abbeycrest to anyone who was in need of supported living.

Abbeycrest from the moment my Mother arrived for respite, treated her with respect and warmth. After a few weeks she decided she would like to make the move permanent which although was a surprise to us was a welcomed decision as Mum was so happy in her lovely room with excellent staff, whether they
were nurses, carers or cleaners everyone was friendly which gave the whole home a welcoming atmosphere.

We have been very happy with the care our father has been receiving. The staff are very caring and approachable, and we feel comfortable asking questions about my dad's care.
The doctor visits every week to check on the residents and there is 24 nursing care.
We feel our father is being well cared
for, kept safe and well and happy!

My father's stay at Abbeycrest was funded by the NHS and despite his untimely demise, he was treated with the utmost respect and care while he was there. The staff were excellent and friendly and he was as happy as could be expected in his circumstances towards the end of his life. I would thoroughly
recommend Abbeycrest in its roles as a nursing home and palliative care.

The level of nursing care given to my father was excellent, his stay at Abbeycrest was made so much more comfortable with such care. This greatly helped to overcome any concerns about needing help at any time of the day or night.

My mother will never improve mentally or physically but she is palpably happier than she was when living alone, despite her strong desire to continue doing so. The staff at Abbeycrest work skillfully and hard to make her life as good as it can be - and her appearance as close to how she would have once
said she wanted it to be.

As a family, we have always found the admin and nursing staff to go the extra mile looking after Dad and our family.
Examples include:
- Nursing calls and emails to keep the family updated
- Use of rooms and catering for a recent birthday
- Support with claims and processes
- Outreach to community
health professionals
- Professional but personal relationships with the nursing, care and admin teams

Whilst Alzheimer's is a horrid condition we are comforted that Dad is well cared for and his needs met at Abbeycrest Nursing Home.

My mother was a resident of Abbeycrest Nursing Home for just over three years and I visited her weekly - albeit with restrictions during the pandemic.
I was always pleased to see how well the care home was maintained and how clean and cared for my mother was when I visited.
Family members were always
kept well-informed about how Mother was and she was made a fuss of on special occasions - birthdays etc. The residents' family member meetings gave us a good opportunity to make suggestions and hear what was going on in the home.
The family were very pleased that Mother was able to spend her final few years being well looked after in a clean and comfortable environment.

My father was a resident of Abbey Crest For over three years. I have huge praise for the staff who looked after him.
They were very professional and kind. I live quite a way from the home. The staff allowed me to stay for long periods of time when I could attend. They kept me fully informed by Zoom
and email at all other times. This gave me a great sense of peace.
Dad enjoyed the social activities when he was able to. After that, activities came to his room and he enjoyed hand therapy in particular.
When Dad died the staff were so supportive and understanding.

My wife is now in an advanced stage of Alzheimer’s and, in January, we realised that we were struggling to provide the necessary care for her. So we arranged for her a two weeks respite stay at Abbeycrest.
During those two weeks, liking what we were seeing in Abbeycrest, we decided that the time had
come for permanent residential care and that Abbeycrest was where we would be happy for her to stay. The change was quickly and efficiently arranged. She was able to stay in the same room (thereby avoiding the confusion, that a move could have caused) where she remains, happy and contented. On entering Abbeycrest, one is struck by the happy, friendly atmosphere. It has the feel of a home, in the nicest sense of that word, and the residents are like an extended family. All the staff, management and throughout the various departments, are friendly and caring, and seem to enjoy being part of a team, relating well to each other. Abbeycrest, without a doubt, is a well-run ship.

My family was both sad and exhausted when it became apparent that Mum needed more care than we could provide at home. We had no idea how Mum would react to the change, and how it might impact us. Thankfully the service provided to all of us (primarily Mum obviously) has been professional, kind and very
reassuring. Mum seemed instantly at home in her new surroundings appearing to enjoy the food and the activities. I can only say that the staff are delightful and I couldn’t be more relieved that my mum is being looked after by them.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.841)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.841) out of 10 for Abbeycrest Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 49 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 49 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.841 for Abbeycrest Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (479 Excellents x 5) + (71 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 559 Ratings = 4.841
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Abbeycrest Nursing Home is based on 49 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 70 registered maximum number of service users is 14, which has been reached with 49 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

“As Home Manager I believe that our residents should receive the very best bespoke care and support they require to meet their needs, whilst making each day memorable.

I have been blessed to have a very successful career working in the health and social care sector with over 30 years of experience. I trained as a nurse in Hertfordshire and have maintained my registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, after qualifying I worked in A&E before stepping into the community in 2003 where I managed domiciliary care including complex care as clinical lead and then into a care home management.

It is important to me that my team feel valued and supported in their roles, as well as having the opportunity to develop so that our home can thrive and be a happy and beautiful home for everyone.

At Abbeycrest, we are one big family and everything we do is from the heart, treating the people living in our community as individuals understanding their choices, wishes and dreams for no other reason than to make a difference every day.”

I grew up locally and even went to school up the road, I moved away to undertake my nurse training and am pleased to be back in the local area. It is important to me and the team that Abbeycrest is part of the Sonning Common community. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, I love to travel and have been fortunate to visit many countries around the world.”
