After being a resident at Abbeycrest for well over four years, my mother is now entering a phase where she has very challenging health issues, which necessitate round-the-clock care and attention. I am more than satisfied she is receiving that care and attention. My mother has been very happy at Abbeycrest
and the team there has been very kind and conscientious. It has been a very pleasurable experience to have such a good relationship with all the team who work together very well and exhibit so much patience.
Reply from Home Manager, Home Manager at AbbeycrestThank you so much for sharing such wonderful feedback about your experience with Abbeycrest, John, it means so much to our team to receive this kind of affirmation of the care we provide. Our hearts are with your mother and your family - we know how difficult it is seeing a loved one experience such challenging health issues, but we hope we've been able to make this time easier for you all. We really appreciate your lovely comments about our team and their kindness and patience, they will be touched to hear your feedback!

My dearest mum-in-law had a fall whilst at home which then resulted in her being taken to hospital where we found out that her diagnosis was much more threatening than just a start of dementia. She has been finally transferred to Abbeycrest which had the specialised care our mum needed. My mom-in-law's
illness started to deteriorate quickly, the staff devoted time and extraordinary care. We were able to visit and stay with Mum every day, any time of the day. I have learnt so much from the nurses about end-of-life care and what it entails and when Mum fell asleep for the last time, they made the whole process so much more painless for her and for us. I would recommend this nursing home to anyone who is in desperate search of exceptional care for their dearest. I truly believe that this place is a hidden treasure. I would like to shout to the world to come and see how wonderful it is and the nurses who always hold the care for your loved ones paramount.
Reply from Home Manager, Home Manager at AbbeycrestThank you Zuzana for your kind words and recognition of the team at Abbeycrest, the care, services and support we deliver as a team are extremely important to us. We are really sorry for your loss and we hope we made your mother-in-law's stay with us as comfortable as possible. Your comments will be passed on to the team.

Having made the decision to move my mother into a care home, I was forensic in my research as to the home that would best suit her needs in terms of nursing care and day-to-day interaction and stimulation.
I requested an initial respite stay for Mum in order for both she and Abbeycrest to assess mutual
suitability. I am pleased to say that Mum is now settled at Abbeycrest on a permanent basis and the team there have been incredibly flexible in order to accommodate Mum's and my wishes. We have been able to move in a number of Mum's favourite items from home which have been an absolute game changer in terms of helping her feel at home. The nursing and administrative care is second to none.
There is a warm and upbeat atmosphere at the home and they have found an excellent balance between allowing residents to retain their independence, their self-respect and privacy whilst ensuring that they are well cared for.
We are grateful for all that has been done for my mother.
Reply from Home Manager, Home Manager at AbbeycrestThank you for your wonderful review. We're so happy that you and Mum have found the care that's suitable for her and that we're able to offer her what she needs. Our team take great pride in our ability to provide the best quality care for residents while also retaining their independence, privacy and dignity so we greatly appreciate your feedback!

My cousin moved into Abbeycrest from his own bungalow across the road. Having lived alone all his life and being of a very independent nature, this was a huge lifestyle change for him. I am extremely grateful to the staff for helping him adjust to this change. They offered person-centred care, enabling
him to return to the bungalow in the afternoon to meet a friend for as long as he was able. When his health deteriorated they were kind and compassionate and together with nurses from a particular charity they managed his care well. As I didn't live near they also made sure I was aware of what was happening, and were welcoming when we visited. Thank you Abbeycrest.

Since my wife's admission to the nursing home in April 2024, all along the staff have provided excellent care for her. Unfortunately she has a terminal condition and in the period where she did improve she was fully supported by the staff in getting out of bed and eating by herself. Unfortunately all
of this progress has been reversed over the last month due to the progress of the tumour she has. Staff know me on a first-name basis and provide updates on my wife's condition when I request it.

This was the third Care Home my 95-year-old mother had 'tried' for respite care when her usual carer was on holiday and all the family agreed it was the best. Everyone was friendly and helpful, activities plentiful and are good. Her room had a small outside area and she was able to watch some wild birds
which is something she enjoys at home. Although she is not ready to accept that she cannot manage on her own she concedes that she could go there again - I think she will!
However, Aria Care must be the only place where a week is not 7 days and 7 nights and the family was shocked to find that she had to pay considerably more than the original invoice stated if she actually wanted to stay for a week and not 6 nights.
Reply from Home Manager, Home Manager at AbbeycrestThank you for your feedback, which we have passed on to the home. We are always looking to learn and improve from any feedback we receive. If you would like to discuss this matter in further detail, please contact wecare@ariacare.co.uk.

I have been impressed with the quality of care Dad has received since his admission to Abbeycrest in April. My mother spent 2 weeks at Abbeycrest in May 2024. During that time she received excellent care and really enjoyed the activities, food and surroundings. The staff went above and beyond to ensure that Mum was well looked after. She left Abbeycrest a different woman and certainly got her "mojo" back
whilst there. She was very against going into care (having been a district nurse) but this stay has absolutely convinced her that she would like to return if she was in need of 24-hour care in the future and we, her family, would be confident at the level of care provided.

From the start of the process in finding the right care for my mother, Abbey Crest has been helpful and supportive. They explained all the options and helped guide the right type of support that was needed.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.790)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.790) out of 10 for Abbeycrest is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 53 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 53 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.790 for Abbeycrest is calculated as follows: ( (490 Excellents x 5) + (110 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 609 Ratings = 4.79
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Abbeycrest is based on 53 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 70 registered maximum number of service users is 14, which has been reached with 53 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

As Home Manager, I believe that our residents should receive the very best bespoke care and support they require to meet their needs, whilst making each day memorable.

I have been blessed to have a very successful career working in the health and social care sector with over 30 years of experience. I trained as a nurse in Hertfordshire and have maintained my registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. After qualifying, I worked in A&E before stepping into the community in 2003, where I managed domiciliary care, including complex care as clinical lead and then into care home management.

It is important to me that my team feel valued and supported in their roles, as well as having the opportunity to develop, so that our home can thrive and be a happy and beautiful home for everyone.

At Abbeycrest, we are one big family, and everything we do is from the heart, treating the people living in our community as individuals, understanding their choices, wishes and dreams for no other reason than to make a difference every day.
