The service Abbeycrest gives is second to none and no nursing home could have been better or have done more; in our view, their rating as a care home should be excellent, rather than good.
Abbeycrest staff were always ready and ahead of the game to respond appropriately to our mother's needs and her
dignity was always respected. All the staff, whatever their role, were professional, caring, patient and friendly. Attention to detail was consistently high. Our mother's physical health and comfort were maintained at all times.
All the staff both involved and supported the family over the four year period and we appreciated that greatly.

Mum recently passed away peacefully in Shiplake at Abbeycrest with me by her side.
The staff at Abbeycrest did everything that they possibly could have done to ensure that mums final hours were as good as they could be and to give us all the information and support that we needed.
They got it exactly
right which is very difficult to do.
Mum moved to Abbeycrest in February 2019 following a very bad stroke.
All the staff at Abbeycrest are very caring and hard working.
We could not have chosen a better home and will always be grateful to them.

As a family, we immediately felt the genuine warmth and care at Abbeycrest. Our father needed care for his wife whilst he had a hip replacement.
All of the staff were welcoming, kind, gentle and friendly.
After five weeks of excellent care, it felt as if we were leaving friends. Thank you to you all
for your dedication and wonderful care - especially at this challenging time for our family.

I am very happy with mum's care - she has been there for 7 years!
Carers, nurses and managers are always pleasant and treat mum with dignity and respect as well as kindness. Care plans are checked regularly and updated as and when needed. I receive calls to inform me of any important issues when I
ask questions, these are followed up. There is a calm environment and mum is comfortable, enjoying the visiting entertainers when awake!
I feel the staff care about mum's needs. She is safe, well fed, clean and cared for.

I have looked at many care homes. This is one of the best I have seen. Clean and refreshing, a treat to visit and must make the residents feel much better in themselves. The care they receive is second to none and all the care workers are very dedicated to the job they are doing. The only downside I
find is that the food for the dementia people should be cooked a little more as most of it is far too hard for them to chew.

The manager is approachable and available at short notice. Sorting out any problems promptly.

The carers are inspirational. Skilful in handling the residents even when they are being difficult.
They seem not to know how really great they are. Well mannered, empathetic, sensitive and friendly.

The

rooms are homely, the double aspect windows making them light and airy.

All the staff are polite and thoughtful, allowing us privacy for our visits while offering us support............. and refreshments.

There is a happy atmosphere with the old tunes playing and residents singing along.
Various entertainments are provided. From reading the news and quizzes to flower arranging.

We visited seven homes before we found this one which we liked the best.
Other family members who visited were also impressed and said it was the best home they had visited.

We have no hesitation in recommending this home.

My father spent his last nine months in Abbeycrest. Throughout that time he was given extraordinary levels of care and compassion by every member of staff. To know that he was genuinely cared for during his stay was a huge comfort to myself and every other member of the family. I can't thank the
Abbeycrest team enough, for the kindness and care that they provided to my father and our family.

My mother spent her last weeks at Abbeycrest. We could not have asked for more. What made the difference to us was the extraordinarily high level of care and compassion of the whole staff team.
I commented to my mum that everyone who came into her room did so with a smile on their face and a cheery
greeting.
This was from the senior nursing staff to the laundry service.
She said 'Yes, they're always like that.' What a comfort it was to all of us.
My family and I will be forever grateful.

During the course of Mum's residency in Abbeycrest, spanning over six years, she was always treated with kindness, tenderness and great patience by the staff, especially in the last eleven months of her life when she was bedridden, unable to speak ad in the advanced stages of dementia. One always felt
welcome in the home and everyone was cheerful and most helpful.

The staff on the floor where my mother lived were kind, caring and considerate - and nothing ever seemed to be too much trouble. We always received a warm welcome from all at Abbeycrest - and when mum passed away, everyone was very kind. The team treated us with consideration and compassion. Thank you

My mother-in-law received respite care as a resident for 3 weeks. Our need was urgent and the Manager was very responsive, understanding and clearly very experienced, making a home visit to assess her requirements on the day following my first visit. A room was made available to her within days.
All of the staff were very friendly and welcoming, helping her to settle in. At all times, they were professional and responded quickly to her needs. She was encouraged to participate in the many activities on offer. Residents’ rooms are spacious and all public areas are clean, bright and cheerful. I would have no hesitation in recommending Abbeycrest Crest Care Home to other families.

I cannot fault the care my mother received at Abbeycrest. It feels like something between a five-star resort and a private hospital. It is a very emotional experience to have to place a loved one into care. Abbeycrest made not only my mother but all of the family feel at home and part of a family very
quickly. They went the extra mile and it was a huge comfort to all of us.

My wife developed Alzheimers many years ago but also had mobility issues. When in November 2015, she was no longer support her own weight, we had to find a care home. After research, it was clear that Abbeycrest was the ideal location.
I cannot speak too highly of the facilities but more importantly,
the skill, kindness and caring attitude of the staff.
I shall be eternally grateful to them.

I have nothing but praise for the staff that cared for my husband. His dementia meant he was not always easy to deal with but they were unfailingly caring and cheerful. This pointed to a good manager who employed good people.
In the last week of my husband's life, as a family, we were cared for alongside
my husband.
I had dreaded my husband having to go into a home, but I needn't have worried. I'm very grateful to the staff at Abbeycrest.

I am particularly aware of how caring and gentle the staff are with residents. They respond quickly and carefully to resident's needs and always respect their need for privacy and dignity. The food seems to be excellent and is very nicely presented. There seems to be plenty of activities available.
The window is draughty, so her room can be chilly, but otherwise, the room and facilities are excellent with plenty of space when visiting.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.841)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.841) out of 10 for Abbeycrest Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 49 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 49 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.841 for Abbeycrest Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (479 Excellents x 5) + (71 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 559 Ratings = 4.841
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Abbeycrest Nursing Home is based on 49 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 70 registered maximum number of service users is 14, which has been reached with 49 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

“As Home Manager I believe that our residents should receive the very best bespoke care and support they require to meet their needs, whilst making each day memorable.

I have been blessed to have a very successful career working in the health and social care sector with over 30 years of experience. I trained as a nurse in Hertfordshire and have maintained my registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, after qualifying I worked in A&E before stepping into the community in 2003 where I managed domiciliary care including complex care as clinical lead and then into a care home management.

It is important to me that my team feel valued and supported in their roles, as well as having the opportunity to develop so that our home can thrive and be a happy and beautiful home for everyone.

At Abbeycrest, we are one big family and everything we do is from the heart, treating the people living in our community as individuals understanding their choices, wishes and dreams for no other reason than to make a difference every day.”

I grew up locally and even went to school up the road, I moved away to undertake my nurse training and am pleased to be back in the local area. It is important to me and the team that Abbeycrest is part of the Sonning Common community. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, I love to travel and have been fortunate to visit many countries around the world.”
