Very happy with the care. The staff are extremely kind and welcoming as well as being highly professional and communicative. Both my parents have been residents since June 2021 and since being at Abbeycrest my mother's overall health has substantially improved and my father is a lot more content.

I didn't have to wait prior to my covid test. The person who dealt with this, was very efficient and friendly. On returning my test, which was negative, I pressed the bell and the same person escorted me to my friend's room. She again continued pleasant conversation. While I was with my friend he rang
the bell for assistance. The staff member dealt with my friend's issue well, even though there was a slight difficulty with understanding what she said. On leaving I was escorted to the lift and taken to the front door, by a cheerful individual. The whole experience was great and I felt valued and looked after. Thank you.

My Father has lived at Abbeycrest for almost 2 years. He was able to visit a number of care homes and chose to live here. We have been extremely happy with the care he has received and the way the staff always treat him with dignity and respect. During this period his needs have changed significantly.
We have been impressed with the way that the staff have responded in a proactive manner. The pandemic has been a very challenging time for everyone, especially in the care sector. Due to excellent management and a dedicated team, Abbeycrest has excelled. Well done and thank you.

In very difficult circumstances Abbeycrest has provided exceptional care for my mother. As her daughter, I feel enormously relieved that she is in such good hands. I am always very happy to pass on my recommendation to consider Abbeycrest to others in a similar situation. Particularly happy to see
the same staff whenever we visit. Residents are always treated with dignity and compassion. Thank you for this.

My husband, spent 2 weeks respite care from June 7th this year. My son and I visited before deciding, and we were impressed immediately with Abbeycrest Nursing Home. We found it a very welcoming establishment - staff all smiled and spoke to us. The manager gave us a good tour of the home and answered
all our questions. On admittance, again we were made to feel welcome. My husband settled in well. He was moved to the Dementia unit as he began to wander! Whenever I visited, he seemed more than happy to stay. He also enjoyed the food and we know that his care was excellent. I am more than happy to have a return visit for him. Many thanks to all concerned.

I cannot thank Abbeycrest Nursing Home enough for the level of care they gave my Grandad while he was there. The staff are so kind, caring, and considerate, and really do go the extra mile to make the residents feel special; always treating them with dignity and compassion. The range of activities they
put on for residents is really excellent too. It gives my family such peace of mind to know how well my Grandad was cared for. Thank you Abbeycrest.

My Mum has been a resident in Abbeycrest for 5 years. From the first day we looked around Abbeycrest we knew it was the right place for her as it feels just like home and the staff have always been so friendly and caring. Nothing is too much trouble for any of them. The Manager is outstanding and is
always there if we need any help or advice in a professional manner. The person on reception is so welcoming whether on the phone or when we come to visit mum. During Covid lockdown, it has been so hard not being able to see mum, but we have weekly pictures of the activities they are all doing and its reassuring to know mum is being cared for.

Just like a good hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful. They did their utmost to support Mum, and when it was tough to support - they inform me too. Mum loved her regular hairdresser's appointments, and it made her feel good. Thank you all.

On arriving at Abbeycrest you enter a bright cheerful and welcoming reception area. All the staff were friendly and helpful. My husband's care was excellent with one exception - I felt there were not enough carers on duty between 1.30 and 4 pm. The needs of my husband did not always fit the routine,
In my opinion the carers worked a very long day with short breaks.

I just spent two weeks each day at Abbeycrest visiting my mother who has Alzheimer's and who has just recently gone to live there. I was very impressed and am particularly grateful to three staff members who were so kind to her. (My apologies to those whose names I do not know as everyone seemed kind
and considerate).
I live in Canada and it is so comforting to know that my mum is in such good hands. Thank you all.

I have been satisfied with the level of care my family member has received at Abbeycrest care home. I visit regularly and have always observed the staff treating residents with kindness, courtesy and care even in challenging situations. My family members health is maintained very carefully, and a host
of initiatives have been put in place to ensure they remain as happy and healthy as possible. I am always made to feel welcome whenever I visit, and I am regularly updated on my relatives condition and am consulted on every decision made. I would not hesitate in recommending Abbeycrest as a suitable home for a loved one - five people had separately recommended it to me.

My mother spent almost six years in the care of the staff at Abbeycrest. During this time she was very well looked after by the staff despite her condition being quite challenging at times. The staff showed great patience and understanding, and gave excellent advice and support to me and the rest of
the family. I have recommended Abbeycrest to a number of friends, many of whom have ended up with relatives becoming residents at the home.

The service Abbeycrest gives is second to none and no nursing home could have been better or have done more; in our view, their rating as a care home should be excellent, rather than good.
Abbeycrest staff were always ready and ahead of the game to respond appropriately to our mother's needs and her
dignity was always respected. All the staff, whatever their role, were professional, caring, patient and friendly. Attention to detail was consistently high. Our mother's physical health and comfort were maintained at all times.
All the staff both involved and supported the family over the four year period and we appreciated that greatly.

Mum recently passed away peacefully in Shiplake at Abbeycrest with me by her side.
The staff at Abbeycrest did everything that they possibly could have done to ensure that mums final hours were as good as they could be and to give us all the information and support that we needed.
They got it exactly
right which is very difficult to do.
Mum moved to Abbeycrest in February 2019 following a very bad stroke.
All the staff at Abbeycrest are very caring and hard working.
We could not have chosen a better home and will always be grateful to them.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.790)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.790) out of 10 for Abbeycrest is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 53 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 53 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.790 for Abbeycrest is calculated as follows: ( (490 Excellents x 5) + (110 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 609 Ratings = 4.79
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Abbeycrest is based on 53 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 70 registered maximum number of service users is 14, which has been reached with 53 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

As Home Manager, I believe that our residents should receive the very best bespoke care and support they require to meet their needs, whilst making each day memorable.

I have been blessed to have a very successful career working in the health and social care sector with over 30 years of experience. I trained as a nurse in Hertfordshire and have maintained my registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. After qualifying, I worked in A&E before stepping into the community in 2003, where I managed domiciliary care, including complex care as clinical lead and then into care home management.

It is important to me that my team feel valued and supported in their roles, as well as having the opportunity to develop, so that our home can thrive and be a happy and beautiful home for everyone.

At Abbeycrest, we are one big family, and everything we do is from the heart, treating the people living in our community as individuals, understanding their choices, wishes and dreams for no other reason than to make a difference every day.
