My aunt moved in about a year ago and after being in another care home it was like chalk and cheese!

The staff are lovely & caring and she was well looked after. Unfortunately, she wasn't able to join in many activities but there always appeared to be a lot going on! Can't say enough! Thank you!

Our 96 year old mother is receiving amazing care at Southerndown, across the board. Always listened to about her food choices, attentive whenever she needs assistance and the management regularly check in with her to ensure she is happy with what's happening. We didn't foresee our Mum going into care and approached this with a fair amount of worry - but we are very glad we decided on Southerndown, and most importantly our Mum has settled in extremely well and is genuinely happy with the care she's receiving. Outstanding.

The staff at Southerndown are second to none. My granddad is cared for beautifully and with such dignity. I am kept informed if there are changes when I am not there and I feel very included in his care generally. I would recommend the care home to anyone.

Southerndown cared for my 99 year old mother who had dementia & mobility problems for 6 months. The facilities, food & location are great but the most outstanding part of the home is the amazing staff members, not just the carers but every single member of staff was kind, considerate & thoughtful. Wilma & Mario in particular cared for my mother as if she was their own & Emma on reception was so welcoming & helpful to all the family

My father lived at Southerndown for 4 years following a stroke and mixed diagnosis of Alzheimer's and Vascular Dementia. He struggled to make decisions and in expressing what he wanted. The medical and care staff were wonderful, ensuring his needs were met and he was comfortable at all times. He needed support and encouragement to participate in activities, and the staff spent time on improving his quality of life with outings, one-on-one sessions and group activities. I could see they genuinely cared and were interested in him and his quality of life.
As my fathers' disease progressed the nature of care provided was carefully adjusted to match his needs and capabilities, and remained focused on his comfort and dignity.

I cannot imagine a better place for him to have spent these challenging last years of his life.

We were greeted at the reception of Memory Lane and taken to the person we had come to see. We were immediately offered a cup of tea as we had come some distance. We were very impressed by the decor and bright coloured pictures which made it look so homely. The staff were so helpful and caring towards the residents. They were interested in the residents history which enabled them to build up a picture of them before becoming unwell. We left feeling very happy and satisfied that our relative was in good hands. Thankyou!

Our mother has lived in Southern Down since October 2023. We have been really happy with her care here. All of the staff are so caring and friendly. Our mother has been very happy and well cared for - the carers and nurses are all lovely, as are the reception staff and managers. The activity coordinators are fantastic and run a great personalised programme throughout the week - we are impressed how they involve residents with all sorts of needs (our mother has dementia among other things). They are also very good at communicating with us as a family. Would recommend!

Hi, I'm Clara. I bring over 32 years of nursing experience to my role in residential care. Throughout my career, I have been passionate about making a positive difference in people's lives and ensuring that every resident receives the highest standard of care, dignity, and respect.

I find my role incredibly rewarding, particularly the opportunity to spend quality time with residents, build meaningful relationships, and support them in living fulfilling lives. Seeing the impact that compassionate care can have on both residents and their families is what motivates me every day.

Alongside my clinical experience, I have enjoyed developing my leadership and management skills, allowing me to support and mentor staff while helping to maintain a safe, caring, and welcoming environment. I am committed to continuous learning and strive to ensure that our home delivers exceptional person-centred care for everyone who lives here.
