Mum spent a year at Southerndown, where she died peacefully in January 2018. Although reluctant to go into care at all, she was happy and well cared for in a clean, cosy and friendly environment. Dad and I had total trust in the staff who are, without exception, warm and kind and genuinely seem to be happy in their work. You can't fake that. As visitors, we were always recognised and welcomed warmly.
The home is well run and beautifully presented without being intimidating. We were kept informed of all incidents and medical consultations and Mum was treated with nothing but kindness and respect.
After she died many of the staff were genuinely saddened and their good wishes were sincere and most welcome.
I like living here, never had a problem. Anything I want I ask and get it. I've got everything I need. Overall it's very good I've never had to complain.
The home is always clean, and staff are open and friendly. If there are any queries to raise, staff are attentive to the needs of myself or Mum.
Always made welcome, home is always clean and tidy. My wife loves this home. I always look forward to coming to see my wife here in Southerndown.
Happy with all the care my father receives. Staff excellent but it is a shame that activities are almost non-existent.
I am sorry you are disappointed with the activities provided- our activity coordinator strives to provide a wide range of entertainment for all the residents and has in fact been nominated by staff and residents for an award. I will ask our activity coordinator to meet with you and your father to discuss how we can improve his activities and entertainment.
Moving my dad from his home and then the hospital and then to Southerndown was made so much easier by the care and assistance of all the staff. It was a very traumatic time for us as a family but they helped us make the transition smoothly and really cared for my dad on his arrival.

Meet the Team (15)

Hi, I am Subra. I am the General Manager here at Southerndown Care Home.
I have completed a B.Sc. Nursing and gained very good knowledge from my time in a Surgical Intensive Care Unit in India.
I joined the home in July 2021 as a Pre-registered Nurse, before qualifying as a General Registered Nurse. It has been a privilege to grow and progress within Barchester, and I was delighted when, in 2023, I was promoted to Deputy Manager.
I love my job, the Residents and the staff team - we are one big family. I am passionate about delivering quality care and operating an inclusive and empowering culture within the home.
Please come along to the home, get involved in our activities and events and be part of our home community.

Hi, I am Letty, and I am one of the Heads of the Unit here at Southerndown.
As the Head of the Unit, I am responsible for making sure that our residents receive wonderful first-class care and are also involved in all the decision-making surrounding their care. Our residents deserve to be treated with respect and compassion due to our own elderly relatives.
I love my job and I am always doing my best to ensure every day is a happy day, and that the staff are always smiling, singing and most of all caring!

Hi, I'm Sridhar and I am proud to be a nurse at Southerndown.
My team and I are dedicated to providing the absolute best nursing care possible to each and every resident. Whether a resident needs full nursing care or simply a bit of extra support, all of us are on hand to ensure that everyone who lives here can continue to enjoy life.

I have worked at Southerndown Barchester since 2019.
As a Senior Nurse my role is to ensure clinical support within the home for our residents, but ensuring I can come to work and put smiles on the resident's faces and make a difference to their lives is the most rewarding part of what we do.
In my spare time, I like to learn new languages as I believe it fosters personal growth whilst understanding more cultures and opens doors for me to travel and embark on visiting different parts of the world

Hi, I am Stacey, I have worked at Southerndown since 2013.
I enjoy providing various activities for our residents, such as gardening groups, trips out in the minibus, quiz days and art therapy, among the many things we enjoy doing.
I also hold a monthly Memory café, which all family and friends are welcome to attend.
I look forward to meeting you all.

Hello, I'm Bridget. I am the Home Administrator here at Southerndown. I am responsible for all administration within the home, for residents, staff and families.
Relatives often pop in to see me, and I enjoy listening to them, learning more about the residents, which helps me develop a more personal understanding of them.
It's never quiet here, and there is always something happening, and joining in with the fun is key to making the day go well for everyone.

I have been with the team at Southerndown since 2023
People ask me what I enjoy about my job and the answer is easy... 'the people'. It's the small things that make the difference every day, seeing people smile and seeing someone respond positively to interaction. We offer a great life enrichment programme at Southerndown and every day is different but enjoyable.
In my spare time, I like to spend time in the garden, I enjoy sewing but mostly love spending time with my grandchildren

Hello there, I'm Andrei and I am the Second Chef and part of the hospitality team at Southerndown Care Home.
I joined the team as a General Assistant in 2017 before transferring to the care team as a Care Assistant for 3 years, following which I supported the home with maintenance for a short period before joining the kitchen team, where I believe I've found my place. The home and management here have been super supportive and we all work together to ensure the home runs smoothly, it's so important.
My favourite thing about my job is seeing the residents enjoy our food, and the meals we prepare. Seeing empty plates is a reward for me and the kitchen team.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my lovely wife, walking my dog and visiting the theatre and cinema and a spot of cycling when time allows.

Hello, my name is Charity and I am one of the Care Assistants here at Southerndown Care Home.
I joined the home in 2022 and I absolutely adore my job, caring for our Residents. I have many years’ worth of experience in the care industry and could not think of a more rewarding job to do. I like to help people and when I see them happy it brings me joy.
Outside of work, I have four children who keep me very busy, but an important part of my life is my church community, where I volunteer at food banks, soup kitchens and coffee mornings. I like to cook African cuisine, but I do love a good roast potato too!

Hello, my name is Huda and I am a Maintenance Assistant here at Southerndown.
I take great pride in my work, keeping the home safe for our residents. The best part about the job is getting to know Residents well, having great chats with them and hearing all about their life history.
I’m always happy to help.

Hi my name is Tracey and I've been part of the housekeeping team here at Southerndown since 2022.
I enjoy working as part of a team to make sure the home is kept fresh, clean and tidy and I support Residents to remain as independent as possible.
By far the best part of my job is the Residents, they all bring their own individual stories and experiences and they are always keen to share these with me when I am cleaning their room.

Hi, my name is Sasha and I am the Head Housekeeper at Southerndown Care Home.
I started my journey at Southerndown as a Senior Carer, which I thoroughly enjoyed and was the foundation for me here. Over the years though I have supported different roles across all departments including, activities and hospitality. I love the Whole Home Approach here at Southerndown - everyone chips in.
I joined our wonderful Housekeeping Team in 2024 and I take immense pride in maintaining the home that exudes warmth, comfort and cleanliness. I approach every task with dedication and care and I enjoy transforming a room into a serene sanctuary for our wonderful Residents.
Housekeeping is not just a job for me, but a fulfilling passion that brings both satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment.
In my spare time, I love spending time with my family and grandchildren and travelling the world with my husband.

Hello, I'm Adrian and I am a Care Assistant here at Southerndown Care Home.
I joined the team in 2017 as a Night Care Assistant and I feel completely fulfilled by my job every day. I enjoy caring for our Residents and making sure they are settled and rested at night time. I remember my parents and grandparents and I only wish they would have had the same care, attention and support our Residents receive at Southerndown. I am very proud of my work, the home and my colleagues.
I am originally from Romania, where in my younger years I played 1st league football, however those days are sadly behind me, but I am now a keen football follower and support Liverpool football club.

Hi, I'm Kanij, and I am an Admin Assistant here at Southerndown Care Home. And I joined the team in April 2025. I enjoy working here as we all work as a team, everyone is always ready to help each other, and it's a homely and cheery place to work.
Professionally, I have completed my MSc in Finance & Accounting from Brunel University London in 2024, following which I completed a placement as a Financial Accounts Assistant. However, I started working part-time as a Care Assistant, and I found my love for the care industry.
Apart from my work, I love travelling; I have visited some parts of India, the UAE & Europe. I have one daughter who is in secondary school, and my lovely Husband is also part of the Southerndown team, having worked here as a Maintenance Assistant since 2023.
Please come and visit us, we are a lovely home, full of fabulous Residents and Staff. You will always receive a warm welcome

Hi, I'm Clara. I bring over 32 years of nursing experience to my role in residential care. Throughout my career, I have been passionate about making a positive difference in people's lives and ensuring that every resident receives the highest standard of care, dignity, and respect.
I find my role incredibly rewarding, particularly the opportunity to spend quality time with residents, build meaningful relationships, and support them in living fulfilling lives. Seeing the impact that compassionate care can have on both residents and their families is what motivates me every day.
Alongside my clinical experience, I have enjoyed developing my leadership and management skills, allowing me to support and mentor staff while helping to maintain a safe, caring, and welcoming environment. I am committed to continuous learning and strive to ensure that our home delivers exceptional person-centred care for everyone who lives here.
