I visited Southerndown Care Home yesterday for the first time. I was made exceptionally welcome by several different members of staff and was very impressed by the renovations that have been done over the past year.

Each area is themed which I am sure helps the residents feel at home, nothing seemed too much for the staff to deal with. I was surprised at the standard of the rooms both the residents own rooms and the communal rooms. My, obviously outdated, thoughts on what a Care Home is like couldn't be more incorrect as far as Southerndown is concerned.

My wife and I were most impressed by the facilities and care at Southerndown. The staff were experienced and kind. We were most impressed by the ability of the staff to reduce my sister's pain levels that she had endured for many months, if not years. Thank you for your service.

We brought our cousin to visit her sister at Barchester Southerndown Care Home. We all had lunch together in a special room on our own. We had a very good lunch and a lot of different staff popped in to see if we were all right, including the chef.

This home looks to be of a very high standard and the staff were so helpful and friendly. Our cousin appears happy and content here.

Mum was in Barchester Southerndown Care Home for almost two years, before passing in December. We've been really happy with how she has been looked after. Full-time, caring, understanding, loving staff. Facilities have been refreshed to a very high standard in Mum's time. During her last few days, the care was outstanding. She was looked after so well and treated with such sensitivity and dignity. I couldn't recommend this home more highly. First-class people.

I came to visit my great-nan today and on arriving, I was greeted by a lovely carer who was very polite and accommodating. The home has been beautifully refurbished to a high standard and feels like home. My great-nan said she is very happy and loves the food, especially fish and chips on Friday. I can see my great-nan is well looked after and content and the home is spotlessly clean.

Overall, we are very happy with all aspects of my great-nan's care and living.

I moved my husband from this home after 4 weeks as I was unhappy with his care. He was in Memory Lane as he had Alzheimer's. It stank so much it made me gag. I was paying big money for his care but he was left in bed all day. Once when I went at 1130 he hadn't been washed dressed or shaved as was still wet. The furniture was broken from day one, bathroom floor was dangerously wet. The bed brake wasn't on, drinks were always out of reach and you could never find any staff. He lost 5 kilos in weight in the first 3 weeks. Staff had a hospital letter and 2 reminders he had to go to the hospital for an x-ray but he was undressed in bed when he was being collected. His care was very poor and I felt he was neglected. Since being moved they had seen a great improvement in his health.

Our friend came to Barchester Southerndown Care Home in May 2024. He was well cared for, loved the food and said the staff were lovely and kind.

When we were looking for the best home, we decided upon Barchester offering all that was needed. The regional support manager and all the staff are dedicated and hardworking and treat all with dignity, care and respect, from the very friendly receptionist to all the staff.
