In a hard time, when uncertainty is in everyone's life Southerndown have been fantastic. The care provided is excellent, updates are regular and COVID safety has been incredibly thorough. I highly recommend to anyone looking for a supportive, welcoming and professional care home for a loved one.

My mother was a resident of Southerndown Nursing Home for quite a few years, with a complex health condition. I always got the impression she was well cared for and treated with respect. The past year of lockdown made visits impossible and zoom was not a suitable medium for my mother but I always felt
confident that the staff would be doing their absolute best for her and that she was safe. The home in general and her room were always clean and comfortable. Whenever I saw the dining room food it always looked appetising and plentiful. I can't comment on activities because latterly my mother was too unwell to participate.

I took my friend for respite to Southerndown Care Home for a short period and hope to get him closer to my home which is about 25 minutes away. He was quite anxious when I took him there but he now likes the place so much that he doesn't want to leave. He found the staff to be amazing and very caring.
He tells me all the time that the staff are very kind and lovely. I am not surprised at all because my experience with the manager and all the staff that I have met has been very pleasant. I absolutely agree with all my friend says about the care home such as good food, regular checks on the residents and staff are always there to reassure him when he gets anxious. Hence, I have decided that he stays there permanently because he is cared for very well. The hygiene level is very high and the place doesn't smell like a nursing home where he spent some time a while ago. I highly recommend this care home for people who need 24 hour care, especially those with dementia.

Following the emergency admission of my grandmother over the new year period to Southerndown we have been very impressed with the level of care and attention to detail they have shown. My grandmother is currently on respite care, and we hope she will remain with the home permanently.
The food has been
great, the medical care she has received to get her back to full health is second to none and she is assessed daily to ensure she is in the best environment for her needs, including moving her from the memory lane unit to the "elderly and frail" unit to allow her to socialise with other residents in similar situations to her.
The way the home are handling and protecting the residents from COVID is impressive to say the least, the staff are tested weekly as well as all having been vaccinated along with all of the residents including my grandmother.
We receive updates daily if not every other day on my grandmother's progress whilst she settles, and I cannot recommend this home enough!

My grandmother has been with the home for nearly 2 years, we can not thank the home enough for the continuous high-quality care and compassion towards families.
The home has worked tirelessly this year through the pandemic not only with the residents but with the families also.
We have been kept
up to date, opportunities such as Skype, phone calls and window visits have been available. I was upmost excited and please when we visited my family member in the visiting pod they have provided, this gave us opportunities to visit in the warm and safe environment for both us as a family and for my grandchildren as well, the home is continuing to work hard to provide the best care for residents and families, but providing indoor visiting for memory lane. Our family were pleased to attend on Monday the 30th to support staff to erect a nativity scene at the entrance of the home this will bring joy to families, residents and passers-by. Our family would highly recommend this home.

My very elderly mother, suffering from early dementia, was persuaded to take a respite break at Southerndown. She went with reluctance and reservation but loved it and stayed. The care she receives is first class, friendly and professional and communication with us, her family, is excellent. All the
staff seem genuinely caring - nothing is too much trouble and Covid security is beyond criticism. She has a lovely room, facilities are excellent and she has probably never eaten better meals. We and she have complete peace of mind.

My mother came into Southerndown for respite care and did not want to leave. She has settled in really well and is relaxed and happy. She feels very well looked after and cared for, appreciates the kindness of all the staff and likes her room. The staff are always friendly and caring. Every time I call
the home, I feel my call is welcome and that for them nothing is too much trouble. I especially appreciate the kindness of the general manager, who has been extremely kind, supporting the family as well as the new resident.

I am very impressed with the level of care my father is receiving. The nursing staff are unfailingly professional, caring and compassionate. They are always willing to address any issues I may have or answer any questions that arise. All phone calls are answered promptly and if needed a return call

During the pandemic, the care home has given constant updates which have been very reassuring. They have all done an amazing job in such difficult circumstances. In the last few weeks, I have been able to visit my mum in the garden where they have put up pagodas to shelter from the sun and rain. The

Although my husband was only in Southerndown for three short months I always felt very comfortable in myself that I had chosen the best place for him. The home is spotlessly clean, very well furnished and the staff were so kind, caring and friendly. I felt I had known them for years. They would ring
me if anything related to my husband had to be changed, so I always felt I was still part of his life. Up until he went into Southerndown I had cared for him myself for just over 8 years so I know what is involved in the care of dementia patients. The staff were quite simply the best.

In the time my mum spent in Southerndown, we always found the staff very kind and helpful. Mum always looked clean and tidy, her clothes always matched with buttons done up and underclothes neatly tucked in. She had a clean change of clothes every day. Her bedroom was kept spotless. On the occasions
we were there at mealtimes, the food looked appetizing and well presented.

The time our sister was in your care we only had positive cooperation and friendly connection because of the distance we had to travel our visits are few but when e did arrive the welcome was so friendly and warm. My father had a short 3-month stay at Southerndown. From his first arrival until his final days, we met and spoke to many of the nurses, carers, housekeeping and office staff – each and every one of them were always warm, friendly, and caring. The staff comforted my father towards the end when the family
were unable to visit due to the national lockdown – despite the restrictions the staff were working under they always managed to keep the family informed and facilitated several video calls, which helped the family immensely.

My husband died in Southerndown on May 25th. Due to all the circumstances surrounding the lockdown and the fact for the last 8 weeks we were unable to see him due to the virus, I feel he was well looked after. The staff are marvellous - cheerful, professional, efficient, patient, kind and genuinely caring My Mum is happy here. Eva Recio Dominguez

Hello, my name is Eva, and I am the Operations Manager here at Southerndown Care Home. Welcome to our website!


I joined Barchester in June 2025 but bring over 20 years of experience working in the healthcare sector. I started my career as a Registered General Nurse in 2000, when I moved to England from my home country of Spain, and have run many homes as a Registered General Manager, leading successful teams and creating thriving communities for residents, staff, families and the wider public.


I believe that outstanding care starts with amazing people, and I am passionate about creating a supportive and vibrant community where both staff and residents feel safe, valued and can flourish. I am also an advocate for mental health awareness, wellbeing and encouraging positive psychology. I want our residents to feel that life just begins when they join our care home, where we offer quality care, nutritious food, and enriching activities in beautiful, homely environments.


Outside of work, I focus on staying active, whether this be walking, hiking, dancing or going to the gym. I am a fan of good food, and I am very lucky that my Husband is an amazing cook, so I look forward to coming home to his delicious homemade cuisine.

I have been working at Southerndown Care Home since July 2021. I have completed a B.Sc. Nursing and gained very good knowledge from my time in a Surgical Intensive Care Unit in India.


I am passionate about my job and I love caring for the elderly. I started my journey in Southerndown as a Pre-registered Nurse before I became a Registered General Nurse. I have been promoted to Deputy General Manager since March 2023. I am happy to take on the new role and support our General Manager in creating an outstanding care home environment.


Currently, I am doing my NVQ-5 (Diploma in Leadership and Management) to further develop my leadership skills.

I joined the team in 2024 and one of the best parts of my job is meeting our Residents and finding out what their likes and dislikes are - I truly enjoy preparing home-cooked favourites and it's very rewarding to see everyone enjoy chatting over a delicious meal and a glass of wine.


I love to work with the nursing and care teams to ensure that the food is not only tasty but also nutritious.

Hi, I am Stacey, I have worked at Southerndown since 2013.


I enjoy providing various activities for our residents, such as gardening groups, trips out in the minibus, quiz days and art therapy, among the many things we enjoy doing.


I also hold a monthly Memory café, which all family and friends are welcome to attend.

Bridget Lane

Job Title: Administrator Joined: 2016

Hello, I'm Bridget. I am the Home Administrator here at Southerndown. I am responsible for all administration within the home, for residents, staff and families.


Relatives often pop in to see me, and I enjoy listening to them, learning more about the residents, which helps me develop a more personal understanding of them.


It's never quiet here, and there is always something happening, and joining in with the fun is key to making the day go well for everyone.

People ask me what I enjoy about my job and the answer is easy... 'the people'. It's the small things that make the difference every day, seeing people smile and seeing someone respond positively to interaction. We offer a great life enrichment programme at Southerndown and every day is different but enjoyable.


In my spare time, I like to spend time in the garden, I enjoy sewing but mostly love spending time with my grandchildren

Andrei Mereu

Job Title: Second Chef Joined: 2018

Hello there, I'm Andrei and I am the Second Chef and part of the hospitality team at Southerndown Care Home.


I joined the team as a General Assistant in 2017 before transferring to the care team as a Care Assistant for 3 years, following which I supported the home with maintenance for a short period before joining the kitchen team, where I believe I've found my place. The home and management here have been super supportive and we all work together to ensure the home runs smoothly, it's so important.


My favourite thing about my job is seeing the residents enjoy our food, and the meals we prepare. Seeing empty plates is a reward for me and the kitchen team.


In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my lovely wife, walking my dog and visiting the theatre and cinema and a spot of cycling when time allows.

Hello, my name is Charity and I am one of the Care Assistants here at Southerndown Care Home.


I joined the home in 2022 and I absolutely adore my job, caring for our Residents. I have many years’ worth of experience in the care industry and could not think of a more rewarding job to do. I like to help people and when I see them happy it brings me joy.


Outside of work, I have four children who keep me very busy, but an important part of my life is my church community, where I volunteer at food banks, soup kitchens and coffee mornings. I like to cook African cuisine, but I do love a good roast potato too!

Hi my name is Tracey and I've been part of the housekeeping team here at Southerndown since 2022. 


I enjoy working as part of a team to make sure the home is kept fresh, clean and tidy and I support Residents to remain as independent as possible.


By far the best part of my job is the Residents, they all bring their own individual stories and experiences and they are always keen to share these with me when I am cleaning their room.

Job Title: Head Housekeeper Joined: 2017

Hi, my name is Sasha and I am the Head Housekeeper at Southerndown Care Home.


I started my journey at Southerndown as a Senior Carer, which I thoroughly enjoyed and was the foundation for me here. Over the years though I have supported different roles across all departments including, activities and hospitality. I love the Whole Home Approach here at Southerndown - everyone chips in.


I joined our wonderful Housekeeping Team in 2024 and I take immense pride in maintaining the home that exudes warmth, comfort and cleanliness. I approach every task with dedication and care and I enjoy transforming a room into a serene sanctuary for our wonderful Residents.


Housekeeping is not just a job for me, but a fulfilling passion that brings both satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment.


In my spare time, I love spending time with my family and grandchildren and travelling the world with my husband.

Hello, I'm Adrian and I am a Care Assistant here at Southerndown Care Home.


I joined the team in 2017 as a Night Care Assistant and I feel completely fulfilled by my job every day. I enjoy caring for our Residents and making sure they are settled and rested at night time. I remember my parents and grandparents and I only wish they would have had the same care, attention and support our Residents receive at Southerndown. I am very proud of my work, the home and my colleagues.


I am originally from Romania, where in my younger years I played 1st league football, however those days are sadly behind me, but I am now a keen football follower and support Liverpool football club.

Emma Hughes

Hi, I'm Emma, and I am the Administration Assistant here at Southerndown Care Home.


I joined the team in April 2025, and I am one of the first people you will see when you walk into the home – you will always receive a warm and friendly welcome!


I support the front of house team in everyday admin tasks, reception duties, meeting and greeting family members, visitors, and professionals as they enter the building.


Outside of work, I enjoy socialising with my friends, taking part in pub quizzes, and I am a keen gardener.


I enjoy being part of the wonderful staff team at Southerndown and look forward to meeting you all when you visit.

Kanij Fatama

Job Title: Administration Assistant Joined: 2025

Hi, I'm Kanij, and I am an Admin Assistant here at Southerndown Care Home. And I joined the team in April 2025. I enjoy working here as we all work as a team, everyone is always ready to help each other, and it's a homely and cheery place to work.


Professionally, I have completed my MSc in Finance & Accounting from Brunel University London in 2024, following which I completed a placement as a Financial Accounts Assistant. However, I started working part-time as a Care Assistant, and I found my love for the care industry.


Apart from my work, I love travelling; I have visited some parts of India, the UAE & Europe. I have one daughter who is in secondary school, and my lovely Husband is also part of the Southerndown team, having worked here as a Maintenance Assistant since 2023.
