Westgate House

The home is clean and tidy, and the staff are very caring and friendly; nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are a good size and well maintained. There is a conservatory area downstairs where they often hold group activities to entertain/occupy the residents.

My mother was very unsettled when she first moved to Westgate but the staff have been patient and friendly and her room is very nice. There is now a wider range of activities for her to enjoy. She enjoys her food and feels safe and secure.

Your task is a difficult one to appease all residents. Most of your staff are delightful, one or two can appear rather abrupt. I was very disappointed to be offered a half-hour visiting time, requiring me to travel from Bath, having not seen my mother for 6 months, and that it was necessary to announce 'you have 4 minutes left' at a time of day we were the last.

They are friendly and attentive to my father. The home is clean and has good facilities.

If you have a relative with dementia, who displays challenging behaviour common with this disease, this is not the care home for you. Very poor communication on occasions it has taken up to three days to be able to speak to someone about my mum. High emphasis on physical health, low emphasis on mental health and wellbeing. No support for families.

I would like to thank all staff for their help and organising transport for me to the hospital and the help from the district nurse.

I love everything about Westgate House and there are not enough words to emphasise this.

We're really thankful for the measures you have put in place to facilitate our visits. It was so lovely to see my grandmother and be able to hold her hand and talk to her. The staff were so helpful, accomodating and caring towards us and my grandmother.

My mother has been kept safe in a very difficult time. Her care has been good and her room is clean and tidy. She is unable to see out of her window which is a disadvantage. Activities have been sparse but should improve with the appointment of staff. Special praise to both new members of staff, a breath of fresh air. Wonderful care by the staff on Nightingale. More information would be appreciated.

My mums short stay at Westgate House was very happy. The staff treated her very kindly, and her care was excellent. The carers were so kind and thoughtful. The management of Westgate House were always there to help, and went above their duties. Westgate House is excellent.

Found this home to be just what my mother needed. Made so welcome. Staff go out of their way for her and I can go home with a happy thought that she is so safe. I would recommend this home to anyone who needs a safe and caring home.

Overall, I have been very happy with the care Mum has received. She settled quickly and seemed very relaxed. The staff listened to my concerns and acted on them as they were able.

We are moving Mum as our 'first choice home' now has a vacancy and after much deliberation as a family, feel this is the right move for our mum.

We also feel that the prices at Westgate House are quite high.

The activity leader is wonderfully encouraging and full of fresh ideas to stimulate the residents.

We found the home very welcoming to my father in a time of sudden family crisis. The Manager and senior staff were always available and everyone went to great trouble to help him feel comfortable. He was encouraged to join in with the varied activities on offer and although he struggled with the idea of staying at the care home, I feel it would be hard to improve on Westgate House.

My mother moved to Westgate House a month ago. She is frail, but comfortable and well cared for. The caring and nursing staff are very attentive. The home is purpose-built and has high standards. There is a relaxed atmosphere at the home which welcomes visitors and relatives, with meeting areas, etc., which visitors can use with residents.

The management and senior nursing staff went 'the extra mile' to help organise a difficult transfer to Westgate House from another home in a different part of the country.
