Westgate House

I and my family have been very satisfied with the care my mother has received while being in Westgate House since March 2010. Since those early years, we wonder if there are as many staff on the wing at times. It would be good if attention could be paid to the call bells. They often ring continuously and are not from Kingfisher wing always. They are very disturbing.

Best out of all the care home we went to very pleased with them.

My mother-in-law is not happy to be in any care home. She likes to be independent but would like to see people more often in her room. My mother-in-law says that is because she can't hear unless her hearing aids are put in and people stand too far from her when they ask her things. I would like to add that we as a family, think Westgate House is very nice.

Both of my inlaws have been and are residents at Westgate House and have been very happy with the care they have been given. My husband and I are also very happy that they are looked after so well, they are safe and all of their needs are catered for.

Dad seems very happy at Westgate House. All the staff are friendly and helpful. The room is always clean and tidy and he is happy with the food.

I have no problem with the care my partner receives - staff are all very friendly and caring.

My husband first came here end of November 2017. He had been very ill and was very confused. When he began to realise where he was, he became very agitated and cross. The staff were really kind and supportive to him, me and our family. They couldn't have been more caring. My husband has now settled more and is less confused.

It is most reassuring to know that my mother is well looked after and is in a warm and welcoming environment. She enjoys the fact that everyone refers to her by her first name. She enjoys feeling part of something worthwhile and the staff are able to tailor things to each resident's specific needs.

Nothing appears to be too much trouble for members of staff. Many thanks once again.

With my present infirmities, I am content to live here where all my needs are met and all the staff are so kind to me. It is much appreciated.

The care my father in law receives is second to none. Since his recent admission, he has been fully supported to settle in well. The carers are friendly and welcoming when we visit and are always integrating with the residents and are brilliant at communicating with the family when required.

It was a big step trying to find a place that we felt would be suitable and a home from home for my father in law when it became apparent he needed to go into a care environment. We could not have found anywhere better than Westgate House and feel happy that he is in a safe and happy caring place.

My dad was taken to hospital and had occasion to stay there for a few days. The hospital, as usual, wanted him to vacate the bed as soon as possible and his Care Leader spent a lot of time and effort in ensuring that he returned to Westgate when he was able to be looked after again (above and beyond his remit I think). On return to Westgate he was greeted by a welcoming party. Thanks to the Care Leaders. Thanks to you all.

Some chairs in lounge needed elephant feet and bathroom needed perching stool or the like in front of the basin.

As an only child, I feel that when I visit all the staff are like members of an extended family. It gives me great confidence knowing that my elderly mother is so well looked after.

We bless the day we had her transferred from Henley to Wallingford

Westgate House is a lovely place, with a very warm atmosphere. It is very welcoming and they are always very happy to have visitors. The facilities are clean, bright and very well-kept. I would be very happy for my member of my family to be a resident there if they needed residential care.

Mum's been with this home for 12 years and has been very happy, made friends with the staff and has used the home as her own home. I have found the staff in all this time to have always gone out of their way to help and accommodate mum's needs and as her health has deteriorated, the staff are going the extra mile to make her as comfortable as possible. I would recommend Westgate house. The building is very good, clean and homely but it's the staff that make the difference in this home.

My wife spent four days of respite care at Westgate House. She tells me she had a lovely time whilst there. She felt that all the staff were extremely attentive and that they all treated her as if she was their own mother. I too experienced the same warmth and attention. Her room and all the other facilities were of the highest standards, she looks forward to the possibility of a return visit at a later date.

Our mother spent four months in this nursing home, before she passed away. In our time visiting our mother we could not fault the standard of care given to our mother. We would like to add the carers not only looked after our mother, also included us when offering refreshments while we were visiting. All the staff were warm, friendly and always helpful and informative on mums conditions. We would have no hesitation in recommending this nursing home to others who are looking to place elderly relatives in care.

And "people" looked and surroundings happy. A happy place.
