Mum lived at Bernard Sunley for 4-years. She had previously been there for respite. She was severely disabled with arthritis and had suffered multiple strokes, so she needed, and received high-level nursing care. The staff were caring, cheerful and accommodating of family visits, Covid permitting. She often told us she was well cared for. Her end of life care was particularly good, and she died peacefully after the family had said their goodbyes.

It was a pleasure to have mum with us here; she always had a smile for us, and was lovely to be able to celebrate her 101st birthday!

The staff at Bernard Sunley took marvellous care of my father over several years, enabling him to stay well and to find joy in life. The team were very caring at the end of my father's life, enabling the family to see him and making his passing more comfortable for him.

My father moved to your home in Haslemere and as his health declined over two years, moved to The Bernard Sunley Nursing Home - first downstairs, then upstairs. During this period, I have nothing to complain about. Good care, staff, dignity. With covid, very hard for the carers and those being cared for and us relatives. Top job, thank you.

My sister was well cared for. She enjoyed the food and regained the weight that she had recently lost, so came home after three weeks of respite care, much more her old self, chatty and positive, particularly about the staff.

We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the manager and his wonderful team for all the outstanding care and support they continue to give to our lovely mum and the family. They always go the extra mile, and it gives our family so much reassurance to know Mum is in the best possible care, and the family couldn't be happier or more appreciative.

When initially visiting Bernard Sunley as a prospective care home, we were both welcomed and reassured. We were able to personalise our father's room with all his favourite furniture and belongings and put his pictures on the walls. Although our Dad was only in the care home for a short period of time, it was evident that the staff got to know him and his needs really quickly and well. Communications between staff and family were always very good. Dad was always treated with the greatest respect, kindness and gentleness by all the staff, as were the family.

Our uncle was at Bernard Sunley for about four years until his death earlier this month. We live in the US and were only able to see him once or twice a year. He was quite elderly and had no family or friends left in the UK. The staff at Bernard Sunley Nursing Home were great. They worked hard to keep us updated on Uncle's condition via email or phone. Uncle was well taken care of by people, who literally became like family to him. The staff at Bernard Sunley Nursing Home were exceptional. They seem to genuinely care about each resident and to try to individually address their needs whether by offering a favorite sweet, taking the time to sit down and listen to a story, or even to shop for new trousers, jumpers, pajamas, etc. as Uncle's size changed and we were too distant to shop for him. We believe Uncle felt secure and happy at Bernard Sunley Nursing Home. He embraced the activities offered and would tell us about the various entertainments or crafts available. We believe his last years were enhanced by the care and attention he received.

Our mum went into this home in October 2019 until April 2020. From the first day to the last day of her life, Mum was cared for and well looked after by everyone. Which was a relief to us all, we could call up any time of the day or night. Thank you, everyone.

My mother has lived here for the last 20 months, and I would like to give my and my whole family’s thanks to ALL the staff and management for the wonderful care they give our mother, especially in these appalling times. I have total trust in the staff regarding the care of our mother, who suffers from dementia (and who can be stubborn and difficult on occasions but hopefully also a pleasure to be with!) and who is also very mobile.
The home is always clean and smells fresh when I visit and the communal social and eating area has been redecorated recently.
Residents are well cared for and are treated and spoken to with respect and love.
All the staff is smiley and friendly, they also give time (if not too busy) to give feedback about our mother.
Obviously it has been a really stressful time for everyone since March, regarding the care of loved ones in care homes, but the way the manager and all the staff have looked after our mother has been amazing.

We would like to give a huge thank you!

My mother spent the last five and a half years of her life at the Bernard Sunley Home in Woking. She suffered from dementia, and the treatment that she received at the Home was nothing short of wonderful. The staff were very caring and went out of their way to find ways of engaging with her. She always had a love of music and they found ways of making sure that she continued to enjoy it right until the very end. Thank you all so much for what you did for her.

The building is of a high standard. My mother stayed for four weeks. The first two weeks were fine but then the level of care deteriorated. I had concerns regarding dirty clothing, lack of showers and teeth cleaning. There is a lack of processes regarding record keeping and handovers between staff regarding tablets and bandage changes/removal.

My husband was treated with such care and love and so was I. The end of life care they gave was wonderful and all the girls made a fuss of him which he loved. After I lost my husband at Christmas the Managers looked after me so well.

It is a wonderful home I am glad my husband was there.

My wife was in Bernard Sunley for 2 years, with 5 respite periods before that. She passed away on 13th December peacefully in the home surrounded by 3 children, myself and two of the senior nursing staff, who we all knew very well after 2+ years. It was a lovely time. She was so carefully cared for by all staff throughout her time there. The home is spotless and fresh smelling. The family and I were always treated as friends by the staff. I have recommended it to several friends with Alzheimer's.

Throughout my Mum's stay at Bernard Sunley, she was cared for with incredible kindness, dignity and love. All of the staff, whether they were admin staff, maintenance, catering, cleaning or nursing/care staff, were so kind and friendly to our family when we visited. Nothing was ever too much trouble for them, and they are such a happy team.
When my Mum passed away, the care and compassion shown by the staff could not be faulted.

I am so grateful to all the lovely staff for looking after my Mum so wonderfully for two and a half years.

My father has suffered from vascular dementia for many years, and in the last 12 months has also become immobile and more dependent on his carers than ever.
The staff at Bernard Sunley Care Home have met every one of my father's needs and those of us family members who rely on them to give the care and attention that we could not give. Our thanks and gratitude, as a family, is immeasurable, and in particular, the receptionist and Care Home Manager are incredible, showing a depth of individual knowledge and interest that can only come from those who care deeply about the residents.

An amazing place that has allowed us to get on with our lives without any worry about our fathers care or safety.

My father received exceptionally good care from all the staff during his short stay in the nursing unit after discharge from hospital. The manager and senior staff could not be faulted and the care staff were very caring and attentive. Sadly he died, but this was dealt with sensitively. The staff gave individual and personal attention and we were encouraged to personalise the room.

My father has been cared for at Bernard Sunley for over 4 years under 3 managers, firstly in the dementia unit for almost 4 years where the staff were all outstanding, always kind, caring and compassionate. From the beginning of this year, he was moved to the nursing unit as his care needs changed. The current manager is amazing, going above and beyond his remit to care for the residents, who he knows individually and takes a vested interest in their physical and mental wellbeing, as is his assistant. One in a million.

Andy Cumper
Andy CumperJob Title:Care Home ManagerJoined: 2014

I first started with Bernard Sunley in 2014 as an Administrator and soon progressed to Office Manager – these roles allowed me to build trust and relationships with staff, residents and their families. In early 2018 I was promoted to Home Manager and it is my vision to build a home that is fully integrated in its community and to expand on relationships with local services, groups and organisations to enhance the welfare and opportunities for our residents.

Bernard Sunley a welcoming, friendly home where residents and families are encouraged to engage in all aspects of the home from activities to discussions on what they would like to see happening at the home. The atmosphere is relaxed and staff and residents form great relationships built on trust and care.

Quite simply the best thing about my job is the people. We take the time to get to know each resident who lives with us – their likes, dislikes, the lives they have lived and the sort of life they would like to continue to live in our home. To see a family happy and at ease knowing their relative is well looked after and happy is a great reward. But perhaps the biggest reward is being allowed to share a smile, a story, a memory, with some of our residents and knowing that they are happy to give that time to me.
