Birtley House Nursing Home

They have all made us feel so welcome when we've visited, it has really felt like a big family and everyone is welcome and cared for. They couldn't have done any more to help my mum or the rest of the family.

My husband was admitted after a short stay in hospital - he stayed for 10 days and the care and attention he received was excellent - he had a wound on his bottom which was monitored and looked after well. He came home looking well and refreshed.

I am happy here because the staff are so delightful, kind, helpful and caring and if they do not know the answer to a question, they will take the trouble to find it.

This will be my second Christmas. The house is set in beautiful grounds, cultivated to a high degree, natural lakes, ponds, frequently flying geese, ducks and rare birds. We are fed on vegetables and fruit grown here, beehives provide honey and jams. There is a delightful rose garden in which we sit and have a special event. Each week we have a new menu with a choice of two for all courses, diets are well taken care of. Every month we have now programmed with a large variety of music, films, yoga, chiropody and hairdressing. Our spiritual care is well taken of too. Birtley House is love, laughter and excellent care.

Birtley House is a caring environment for its residents. The nurses and carers are sympathetic to their residents, the activities are varied and stimulating and the house and extensive grounds are beautifully maintained and presented. As a regular visitor, I find the communication between nurses and family members is improving which helps me keep in touch with my mother's needs. Birtley House is not cheap but my mother is content.

Birtley House Nursing Home is a very friendly, clean, well-appointed home set in lovely grounds. The staff are so lovely and many have been there for many years which is a great sign of it being a happy place.

Very good care home with plenty of staff at all very willing, capable and helpful. Lovely surroundings. Excellent provision of other services - counselling, physiotherapy, eye testing, chiropody.

Here for respite only! Just what I needed!

My husband spent over 4 1/2 months in Birtley House Nursing Home receiving palliative and eventually end of life nursing care. The nursing and care staff were fantastic and did everything they could to make his life so comfortable as possible. We both agreed that there was not one member of staff we could find fault with. When eating became a problem every effort was made to provide food he would like and puree it. To us, a 5-star hotel would not have provided better service. Birtley House is situated in beautiful, extensive grounds.

Superb, caring, 24-hour total care. Nothing is too much trouble. All staff fantastic, kind patient and never overwhelming or condescending.

Over the following years, I have kept in close touch with the management and members of the nursing staff. Happy to be here now.

I was delighted with the care that Birtley were able to provide us on a short-term basis at very short notice. The staff were attentive, friendly and professional and I had every confidence in their abilities. The rooms are clean and pleasant and the gardens are delightful. It was my first experience in the care home sector and Birtley made it a very positive one. I would have no hesitation in contacting them again should the need arise.

This is a happy place, very well run.

A family run home which is unique.

Surroundings lovely, gardens beautiful. I have known Birtley for many years and standards as high as ever.

My mother-in-law died in September, aged nearly 90, after spending the last nine months of her life at Birtley. She arrived there after an extremely difficult time in hospital when she nearly died, and she was left distressed and distrustful as a result both of her illness and the poor treatment she received. The staff at Birtley were wonderful and worked patiently and skilfully to restore her in body and mind so that after two months she was able to join in activities and enjoy life again despite her physical limitation. The staff treated her with respect and as an individual at all times and were unfailingly courteous and helpful to me and my husband on our many visits. They kept us informed and included in decisions about her care. At the end, they managed her decline sensitively so that she was able to pass away peacefully, with dignity and without pain. There is a real feeling of community at Birtley and all members of staff, including receptionists, cleaners and gardeners, as well as the nursing and care staff and the excellent physios and activity team, work together and were always pleasant and welcoming to us as visitors.

Only one person in the dining room to look after everybody.

Birtley is truly a family run home. The ethos there is one which I only wish could be replicated in other nursing homes across the country.

The care given to my aunt was so good from the day she moved to Birtley House until her departure. The staff are professional, well managed and very kind and sensitive. The services on offer are broad - good activities, excellent choice in food and the setting is very beautiful and peaceful. The relationship between the care and management team with friends and family was exemplary and efficient.

I would recommend Birtley House Nursing Home to anyone who requires this kind of care.
