Overall Experience
Our father was a resident of Arbrook House whilst receiving palliative care from November 2022 until his recent death in February 2023.
Throughout his time here, he was extremely satisfied with the care and support that was offered. Upon many visits by family and friends, the staff were very attentive and were extremely accommodating in organizing various family get-togethers within the grounds which made it possible for him to still feel included due to his reduced mobility.
The staff took the time to build personal relationships with our father which eased his discomfort in regards to not being at home during his last months. The team treated him with respect and kindness right up until the end of his life, the team have also been supportive to the grieving family thereafter.

It warms my heart to know that whilst in the care of Arbrook House he felt safe and comfortable, thank you to the amazing team that do a wonderful job.

The food has improved.

The main problem that applies to this and most care homes is the use of agency workers who are not up to the standard of regular staff. The government needs to solve this problem.

Arbrook House Care Home gives exemplary care to their residents. Yes maybe cliche, however this group of people who work here are caring, does not matter what their primary roles are. They are emphatic, compassionate, efficient, listen, understand, calm, and always ready to listen, advise and discuss concerns. I am talking about all the team, not only amazing carers/nurses, tea trolley guys, maintenance, cleaners, gardeners, check-in, laundry, entertainment, if I missed anyone. So never any worries, whatever is thrown at them.

Choosing a nursing home for my mother has been one of the hardest things I have had to do. Having visited so many and taking countless references I went back and met with the care manager. Thank goodness I did and thank goodness I chose Arbrook House Care Home. The care manager chooses his staff very carefully and they all truly want to help the residents. Therefore making this a home from home and the staff become a part of your family. The grounds are amazing and add to the welcoming visits for residents and visitors. The nursing staff have a wonderful bedside manner and try so hard to make all residents comfortable and happy. They engage with the family and think outside of the box. A special shout out to two nurses in particular. Even the gardener, chef, and laundry lady have welcomed and got to know my mother's needs. If you are looking for a nursing or care home where residents come first and they adapt to individuals' needs and listen, then I highly recommend Arbrook House Care Home.

To review a care home after nearly 2 years of covid would seem somewhat unfair. There has been an exodus of really good staff who wanted change or better wages, and agency staff can never adequately fill the shoes of those who leave. It has been BUPA policy to isolate people here and keep them safe in their own room. That has had a disastrous effect on patients' wellbeing, although the activities staff here spent time and effort to make each day meaningful. The only residents' lounge is used by staff for meals and training exercises.

Reply from Alison Horridge, Customer Advisor on behalf of the team at Arbrook House Care Home

Bupa followed all guidelines as set out by PHE to keep our residents and staff safe throughout the pandemic. I hope that since rules have been relaxed you are now able to make full use of all the facilities and you are able to enjoy the activities our staff have arranged. Please let us know if there is anything further we can do to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

The staff nurtured my mother from when she first arrived having had falls at home, until her death. She achieved good health through good homemade food, nursing, and carers attending to everything she needed. She enjoyed the entertainment and the beautiful grounds. The staff were like another family to her. Her passing was very gentle and peaceful and the staff did everything to make her last days comfortable and dignified. Her relatives were always welcomed.

I was looking for a care home for my mum a few days before lockdown as she had to leave hospital. I went to view Arbrook but I was not allowed in due to their need to protect the residents. This sealed the deal for me and showed how seriously they took the resident care. Another care home I viewed was happy for me to visit with just a temperature check. It turned out to be the best decision and I was delighted when they agreed to take her. Several months later we saw her room and it was lovely and bright and nicely decorated. The best thing about Arbrook, however, is the staff, they have real affection for the residents and I couldn’t have wished for better care during her last months. My dad even moved in and spent Christmas with her (after quarantine) which was nice as sadly that was their last Christmas together.

My father was lucky enough to come to Arbrook House, three weeks before the COVID lockdown, and I feel blessed. The rooms are tastefully decorated and furnished. They allow residents to personalise them. The communal areas are brilliant and well used. The grounds and the gardens are amazing. The staff are very kind, understanding, sympathetic and caring. They go above and beyond in their care. The leadership is awesome, and the staff are so dedicated and hard-working. Arbrook House is just brilliant, and every staff member is a superhero, in my opinion. I cannot thank the staff enough for keeping my Dad safe and well during this pandemic. I would have no hesitation in recommending Arbrook House to others and indeed already have done so.

I moved my dad here further away from me after he stayed in 2 awful care homes, one of which unfairly evicted him after a complaint. The manager was exceptional at listening, offering solutions and being available. The staff who looked after dad, notably one member of staff, were kind and compassionate. The house and grounds are amazing and I actually found it relaxing to visit dad here rather than anxious as with other homes where staff were overworked, defensive and stressed often.

Dad died during these difficult times in the care home after being discharged from hospital without adequate weaning off a feeding tube. I was able to visit Dad at end of life, wearing PPE and after taking a COVID test. My advice to anyone looking for a nursing home rarely does any take residents on outings, even outstanding homes, they are too busy caring. I bought a mobility car for dad and took him out every week.

Charito Romano
Charito RomanoJob Title:Clinical Deputy ManagerJoined: 2018

I am the Clinical Deputy Manager at Arbrook House, a role I stepped into on 8 August 2025 after joining Bupa in 2018. Since the beginning of my journey with Bupa, I have been committed to delivering high?quality, person?centred care and supporting the development of our teams.

I began my nursing career in the Philippines after completing my Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Wesleyan University. When I moved to the UK in 2002, I explored different areas of nursing, but it was within the care home sector that I truly found my calling. I was drawn to the continuity of care, the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with residents, and the ability to make a real difference in their quality of life.

My dedication to residents and colleagues was recognised early in my Bupa career. Just one year into my role, I was honoured to receive the British Empire Medal (BEM) from the late Queen Elizabeth II for my service during the COVID?19 pandemic. This recognition strengthened my passion for adult social care and inspired me to continue developing as a leader.

What I enjoy most about working in care is the privilege of making a positive difference every day. Being part of someone’s journey — especially at their most vulnerable moments — is something I truly cherish. I value the trust our residents place in us and the chance to support their families with compassion and reassurance.

Supporting my team is also a huge motivation for me. Helping others grow, guiding new nurses, and fostering a safe, positive environment gives me great fulfilment. Knowing that our care brings dignity, comfort, and joy to the people we look after gives my work deep meaning. For me, care is not just a job — it is a vocation.

I’m a proud mother of three wonderful children — Margarethe, Jericho, and Andrew — who inspire me every day. Family is central to who I am. Outside of work, I enjoy supporting Filipino organisations in the UK, taking part in cultural events, and promoting women’s empowerment, leadership development, and the growth of internationally educated nurses.

In my spare time, I love dancing, which helps me relax, express myself, and stay connected to my cultural roots. I also enjoy reading and attending professional development events that keep me inspired. Living locally in Esher allows me to stay closely connected to Arbrook House, our residents, and the team, giving me a strong sense of belonging and enabling me to support the home whenever needed.

Shelan Murad
Shelan MuradJob Title:Resident Experience ManagerJoined: 2012

I joined Bupa in June 2012 as a weekend receptionist at Wingham Court care home and stayed until 2017 when I was promoted to financial administrator and relocated to Arbrook House. In January 2024, I was promoted to resident experience manager and financial administrator at Arbrook House.

I enjoy working closely with residents and colleagues as well as meeting and supporting friends and families. It's fulfilling to be able to make a positive impact on their lives and create a supportive and caring environment.

Outside of work, I am very family-oriented and enjoy spending time with my loved ones. In my free time, I enjoy outdoor activities such as walking and meeting my friends for a catch-up. I also enjoy cooking different dishes for my family. I live locally and I appreciate the close-knit community and the opportunity to be involved in local events and initiatives.

Alex Cheek
Alex CheekJob Title:Activities CoordinatorJoined: 2026

I joined Bupa on 30th March and have been working as an Activities Coordinator since then. Although I am relatively new to the role, I have quickly developed a strong passion for creating meaningful and engaging experiences for residents.

Before entering the care sector, I worked primarily in trade and warehouse roles. However, during the COVID-19 pandemic, work in those industries became limited, prompting me to explore new opportunities. This led me to take on a role as a Healthcare Assistant, where I discovered a genuine interest and passion for supporting others. That experience inspired me to continue developing my career in care, ultimately progressing into my current role as an Activities Coordinator. I find the work incredibly rewarding and take great pride in contributing to residents’ wellbeing and quality of life.

The most fulfilling aspect of my role is knowing that I can make a positive difference to someone’s day. Whether through organising activities, providing companionship, or simply sharing a conversation, I value the opportunity to bring joy, comfort, and engagement to residents.

I live locally to the home and feel proud to be part of the Arbrook team, which I believe is one of the best care homes in the area. Outside of work, I have a strong passion for wildlife, nature, and photography. I enjoy spending my free time capturing landscapes and wildlife through photography, as well as staying active with hobbies such as boxing, hiking, wild camping, and exploring new places. I also enjoy learning new skills and continuously challenging myself both personally and professionally.

Rebecca Roa
Rebecca RoaJob Title:RGN/Finance AdministratorJoined: 2016

I am a registered general nurse and also a finance administrator.

I started working as a registered nurse for Arbrook House in January 2016 and have just celebrated my 10-year service with Bupa.

I am in my second year working as a finance administrator at Arbrook House.

I moved to the UK from the Philippines in 2009 and began my career in the care sector as a student, and began working as a care assistant. My experience in the care home sector inspired me to pursue professional registration as a nurse, allowing me to combine my nursing qualifications with hands-on health care experience.

In 2012, I became a registered nurse, and in 2015, I completed an MSc in Nursing and Healthcare at the University of West London. In 2016, I started working at Arbrook House as a nurse, and I have continued to grow professionally within the organisation ever since.

I am grateful to Arbrook House for the ongoing support and opportunities that have enabled me to develop my career and contribute meaningfully as a member of the healthcare team.

What I enjoy most is being able to use my skills and experiences to deliver the care and support that enables residents to meet their daily living needs. I also find it rewarding to support and work alongside colleagues, helping them to be effective and confident members of the care team.

Outside of work, I value spending time with my family and friends. Although my family is based in the Philippines, I am grateful for technology, which allows me to stay closely connected with them despite the distance. I also enjoy spending time with friends and relaxing at home, particularly watching films, which helps me unwind and reflect. I live locally to Arbrook House, and being part of the local community enables me to build strong connections with the people we support.
