This care centre was amazing, as a family, we were always welcomed with a smile which is so refreshing. My Mother in law could not have been looked after any better, she was always clean and ready for the day, everybody at the home was very caring, attentive and friendly. There was plenty of laughter and happiness, it genuinely has a lovely atmosphere and I would highly recommend it.

Dear Karen
Thank you so much for your feedback on your experience of the home, for the short time Mum was with us it was a privilege to care for her and to meet all her family. Thank you for coming along to the Christmas Fete last week and hope to see you soon in the home.

Really pleased with the staff and facilities at Sovereign Lodge, it's never an easy decision to move someone you love into permanent care but the staff have been fantastic and my grandmother is the happiest she has been for a long time.

Dear Steph

Thank you for giving us such a positive review of your experience with your grandmother in the home. Your grandmother is a very jolly person and loves a sing song, and always gives me a smile. Our aim is to ensure the safety and happiness of our residents. I hope to see you in the home very soon.

I cannot thank the staff at Sovereign Lodge Care Centre enough for all their care, support and professionalism.
The manager and her team have welcomed my mother and us as a family with open arms. They have been so helpful and understanding to all of us. Nothing is too much trouble.
The staff are always friendly and easy to talk to if we are concerned about anything, helpful and caring at all times. Thank you.
The centre is always immaculately clean, pleasant smelling and organised.

The care that is given to their residents is first class and it is lovely to know she is happy and safe.

Reply from Sam Kirwan, Home Manager at Sovereign Lodge Care Centre

Dear Debbie

Thank you so much for your kind words, it is a joy to look after your Mum and she makes me giggle. When there is a sing-song going on in the lounge, your Mum is always part of it and she is not shy in saying how she is feeling. I look forward to seeing you the next time you visit.

Both our parents moved to Sovereign Lodge in 2016. Our Dad received excellent care in his final days with one of the staff even accompanying him to hospital appointments when we couldn't be with him. The whole team were wonderfully supportive to us as a family when he died. Our Mum still lives at Sovereign Lodge and we are comforted to see her care being adapted to her changing needs. The team is very welcoming to us all and very responsive to any of our requests. We cannot imagine our Mum anywhere else.

Reply from Sam Kirwan, Home Manager at Sovereign Lodge Care Centre

Dear Deborah

Thank you so much for your kind words about Sovereign Lodge and even if your Dad was before my time, it is lovely to hear your positive comments. We will aim to continue with the same approach with your Mum, to offer her a safe and responsive home.
Kind regards

The brunch to meet the new manager was an excellent idea. I feel sure everyone who attended benefitted from this opportunity. I am looking forward to the next few months to see suitable changes that may be made. Most importantly, the residents do not appear to have experienced any inconvenience or anxiety during the changeover period.

As a family we were having great difficulty in finding a Coastal care home for a weekend respite who could meet the needs for my Sister, this was until we stumbled upon Sovereign Lodge, the manager went over and above our expectations when it came to organising and reassuring us that plans would be put in place for a smooth and stress free respite break. The level of care, respect and dignity which was shown to my sister throughout her stay was faultless/ excellent, the staff team that we encountered during the weekend appeared to be hard working, dedicated and genuinely happy to be working as caregivers within this establishment. My sister was quite emotional on her journey back to Hertfordshire and said that she would miss the lovely staff and residents that she had grown close to during her short stay. Thank you once again to the manager and the team for all the loving care you showed us.

I have nothing but praise for the care my mother is receiving at Sovereign Lodge, where she has been for 6 months. She is safe and well looked after. She is happy although she does get anxious from time to time. Every member of staff that I have met, including administrative staff, carers and nurses and catering staff, has been cheerful, welcoming and responsive.

I had no difficulty choosing Sovereign Lodge because of the experience of seeing how my mother-in-law was treated when she was there.

My pal has been in the care home for a few months now and is having a whale of a time. Initially, she was unhappy to leave her family home but I am delighted to say that she is enjoying the company of other residents and the great care from the team. She enjoys the homely environment and the activities, particularly the weekly live music sessions as she used to play in a band when she was young.

Reply from Sam Kirwan, Home Manager at Sovereign Lodge Care Centre
Dear Jill. Thank you for the review you gave the home, it is so important for us to learn about what we are doing well and if we can make improvements. We will continue with the live music and ensure the residents is informed when this is happening.

Staff always provide a warm welcome. They are always approachable if you have any concerns and matters are dealt with quickly. The rooms are always tidy and welcoming. The food is always excellent with good alternatives available if needed. The entertainment and activities programme is excellent and varied with outdoors and trips out as well. My mum is very content here and is glad she has company and help when needed, especially at night.

My mother became a resident over a year ago after a difficult spell in hospital. Her care has been exemplary and has enabled the family to come to terms with her need for nursing care and has given us time to enjoy being with her knowing that when we leave she will be in safe, caring hands. She had her birthday in February which was made special by the cheerful interaction of the staff.

I live overseas so it is very important for me to know my mum is in good hands. I am very impressed with the facilities at Sovereign Lodge but the most important thing is the people who work here. Everyone is cheerful and caring and has helped Mum settle in quickly. They have also shown great care to my dad who has found the transition to being at home on his own very difficult.

I travel back home knowing Mum and Dad are in the best situation.

Margaret CoscolluelaJob Title:Home Manager

Our day-to-day can be challenging, but it requires commitment, motivation, and skills to make a vision into reality. I am passionate about delivering person-centred care to our residents and maintaining their independence as much as possible. It is a big adjustment for a resident to leave their own house and be in a nursing home, thus, we as a team help them feel welcomed and ensure a homely environment.

The best part of my working day is knowing that I have made a difference in someone's life and have helped them through a difficult situation. Knowing that a resident is satisfied with the care we provide is the greatest achievement for me at the end of the day."

I wished to be part of this growing company and be able to contribute my knowledge and skills, at the same time learning and growing with the company.

Before I came to Healthcare Homes I was an
administrator/receptionist for a different provider.

I think a person needs to be knowledgeable or must be willing to learn. You must be people orientated, know how to deal with different kinds of people in a friendly but professional manner. Must be well organised and know how to manage time. Stay calm.

The favourite part of my working day is being able to help out with the team. Completing tasks and being ready to accept more. Meeting new people.

The biggest professional challenge in my current role was moving from a corporate company where I had been for 5 years to a smaller but growing company. Luckily enough, after a few weeks of intensive training, I was able to adapt and settle quickly into my new home. Thanks to the most friendly and accommodating staff/residents and relatives of Sovereign Lodge and those at our operations office Apex.

My biggest career highlight to date? I am quite happy to see the progression of my career over the span of six years.

Qualities that make me stand out are;

A good home manager must have good leadership and at the same time be caring and have a passionate heart. Time management is also very important.

My interests outside of work are spending time with my little boy, playing in the sand or swimming together. I also like watching movies and shopping.

I look forward to working with my colleagues who are a bunch of happy and energetic people. Meeting and greeting residents and relatives. Being productive at work – being able to accomplish all tasks given

Sovereign Lodge has a very good name in the local community and I wished to have a more fulfilling job role
Before joining Healthcare Homes I was a landlady at a local public house. I had always worked in the service industry.
To be good in my role I need to be bubbly, outgoing, motivated and confident. Being able to work as part of a team or take a lead role if necessary. Energetic, enthusiastic and loving the job of making people happy.
The favourite part of my working day is putting a smile on people’s faces and making a difference. Giving residents something to look forward to.
My biggest professional challenge in my current role is being diverse in the role and giving a wide variety in the activity schedule; keeping it fresh and exciting. I am undertaking a Health Care Practitioner trainee role which I am very excited about and looking forward to the outcome.
Although there have been many highlights during my time here, none more important than walking in to the lounge areas and seeing smiling, happy residents
The qualities I have to make me stand out are good leadership qualities, being able to communicate freely with staff. Good problem solving skills

Outside of work I like spending time with my family, dining out, walking and enjoying the fresh air with loved ones, watching movies and shopping

The relationships I have formed with my colleagues and residents; it’s not just a job to me. I can honestly say in my time working here, this is my family as well as my friends
