My husband has been a resident for a year now. He is well looked after, well-fed, and the staff really seem to care about the residents.
Nothing is too much trouble for management or the care staff.

As we got to know the staff better, we trusted them to look after our loved one.

Dear Frances
Thank you for your review card on the home, I do appreciate you taking the time to let us know your thoughts. It is a delight to look after your husband and now that we have given his wheelchair an upgrade, you can both enjoy your weekly trips out along the seafront.

When I arrived, I was put in a room where I was not comfortable. My husband spoke to the manager and it was quickly put right which I was very pleased about. Can't complain, I had a nice comfortable stay. Staff are excellent, couldn't ask for more. Thank you all very much.

My husband has been in Sovereign Lodge for three years and I have been very pleased with the service and care that he has received. The management and staff are always welcome to hear of any problems, however minor and they are resolved almost immediately. They have a team of dedicated carers there who work extremely hard to make sure the residents are comfortable and happy. I visit my husband every day at any time and am always impressed by the atmosphere and quietness of the home.

I feel truly grateful that my husband is in a home such as Sovereign Lodge.

Reply from Sam Kirwan, Home Manager at Sovereign Lodge Care Centre
Dear Pam,
Thank you so much and I will let the team know about your feedback, however, you are a kind relative that also tells them when you visit, which is so important. It is a joy to look after your husband and yourself too. I look forward to seeing your smile when you visit each day.

The care given to my mum was excellent. The regular staff are so caring and personal to both residents and their families. Sometimes, mum had to wait too long for a response to her call, as she was bed-bound. I personally think this was more to do with how the place was managed eg, at mealtimes staff were busy. Perhaps staff should be split between caring, responding to buzzers and providing meals?

I visit my friend, and I am so impressed by everything that I see. She is so happy there and so well looked after. The staff are so welcoming. My friend has been in the home for 10 months, and I have seen the difference in her demeanour from when she was in her own home and looking after herself where she was so lonely. Thanks go to all for doing such a good job.

Reply from Sam Kirwan, Home Manager at Sovereign Lodge Care Centre
Thank you so much for your kind words and that your friend is much happier here in the home. It is one of the advantages of a nursing home, is that you do have company and a friendly person to talk too. We look forward to seeing you in the home again soon.

Margaret CoscolluelaJob Title:Home Manager

Our day-to-day can be challenging, but it requires commitment, motivation, and skills to make a vision into reality. I am passionate about delivering person-centred care to our residents and maintaining their independence as much as possible. It is a big adjustment for a resident to leave their own house and be in a nursing home, thus, we as a team help them feel welcomed and ensure a homely environment.

The best part of my working day is knowing that I have made a difference in someone's life and have helped them through a difficult situation. Knowing that a resident is satisfied with the care we provide is the greatest achievement for me at the end of the day."

I wished to be part of this growing company and be able to contribute my knowledge and skills, at the same time learning and growing with the company.

Before I came to Healthcare Homes I was an
administrator/receptionist for a different provider.

I think a person needs to be knowledgeable or must be willing to learn. You must be people orientated, know how to deal with different kinds of people in a friendly but professional manner. Must be well organised and know how to manage time. Stay calm.

The favourite part of my working day is being able to help out with the team. Completing tasks and being ready to accept more. Meeting new people.

The biggest professional challenge in my current role was moving from a corporate company where I had been for 5 years to a smaller but growing company. Luckily enough, after a few weeks of intensive training, I was able to adapt and settle quickly into my new home. Thanks to the most friendly and accommodating staff/residents and relatives of Sovereign Lodge and those at our operations office Apex.

My biggest career highlight to date? I am quite happy to see the progression of my career over the span of six years.

Qualities that make me stand out are;

A good home manager must have good leadership and at the same time be caring and have a passionate heart. Time management is also very important.

My interests outside of work are spending time with my little boy, playing in the sand or swimming together. I also like watching movies and shopping.

I look forward to working with my colleagues who are a bunch of happy and energetic people. Meeting and greeting residents and relatives. Being productive at work – being able to accomplish all tasks given

Sovereign Lodge has a very good name in the local community and I wished to have a more fulfilling job role
Before joining Healthcare Homes I was a landlady at a local public house. I had always worked in the service industry.
To be good in my role I need to be bubbly, outgoing, motivated and confident. Being able to work as part of a team or take a lead role if necessary. Energetic, enthusiastic and loving the job of making people happy.
The favourite part of my working day is putting a smile on people’s faces and making a difference. Giving residents something to look forward to.
My biggest professional challenge in my current role is being diverse in the role and giving a wide variety in the activity schedule; keeping it fresh and exciting. I am undertaking a Health Care Practitioner trainee role which I am very excited about and looking forward to the outcome.
Although there have been many highlights during my time here, none more important than walking in to the lounge areas and seeing smiling, happy residents
The qualities I have to make me stand out are good leadership qualities, being able to communicate freely with staff. Good problem solving skills

Outside of work I like spending time with my family, dining out, walking and enjoying the fresh air with loved ones, watching movies and shopping

The relationships I have formed with my colleagues and residents; it’s not just a job to me. I can honestly say in my time working here, this is my family as well as my friends
