Every member of staff is very caring and all remember my Christian name. I received wonderful service from the chef in the kitchen on the first floor, where each day I had a full English breakfast with coffee with milk followed by toast and marmalade.
Reply from Linda Ryan, General Manager at Barchester Red Oaks Care HomeIt was lovely to be part of our recovery journey and I am pleased that you left stronger with the help from the cooked breakfasts. Thank you for taking the time to write a review.

When my aunt was admitted to Red Oaks, she was very frail and we did not expect her to last the month. Thanks to the wonderful care she has had over the last five months she has just achieved her 100th birthday. She no longer uses her Zummer frame and goes up and down the stairs without any help/she
is very happy and well-settled.
Reply from Linda Ryan, Senior General Manager at Barchester Red Oaks Care HomeIt is an absolute pleasure to care for your aunt, she certainly has found a new lease of life turning 100 years old. She was so proud to show everyone her Birthday card from the king. Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review.

My mother has been at Red Oaks for 8 months. The staff have been excellent, treating Mum with great care, compassion and dignity at all times. She has been encouraged to join in activities and particularly enjoys the various musical events that are organised. All members of staff have been helpful and
cooperative when answering the phone and taking the phone to Mum wherever she happens to be. I have been kept informed about any medical issues and then have been dealt with quickly and appropriately.
Reply from Linda Ryan, General Manager at Barchester Red Oaks Care HomeThank you for taking the time to write a review and for the kind words with regard to the care being provided for your mother. Mum does enjoy joining in all our activities on offer as we are aware that social interaction and well-being are very important.

A belated but nevertheless sincere thank you to the management and staff of Red Oaks for the kindness and care they gave my dear Mum during her two-year stay from January 2021 - January 2023. Mum was 102 when she passed away but during her stay, she thoroughly enjoyed all the activities particularly
the singing and the art club together with the garden parties on the beautiful grounds. Mum also made great friends with her carers and nurses and their kindness and attention to detail were much appreciated by me and my close family. Red Oaks was excellent.

A fantastic homely, safe and engaging home and community which my father-in-law enjoys immensely.
He is thriving and now enjoys all the activities which he had given up and isolated himself from as his dementia/Alzheimer’s made it difficult for him to join in.
The food, facilities and activities make
this home more like an all-inclusive resort with beautiful grounds and attentive staff.
The staff go above and beyond to care for him and he really enjoys being part of the community.

Following a stay for respite care, my mother decided to stay at Red Oaks. The staff are very friendly, helpful and kind and she is settling in very well with their support and encouragement. The manager and nurses have been very responsive and helpful with the necessary paperwork and support with funding
and planning for permanent residency at the care home.

As a family, who were looking after our father in his own home, it was a heartwrenching decision to contemplate him ever going into a home. As much as we can provide for him at home, we are not able to provide him with the care and attention that his ill health needs. Every single staff member has treated
him with dignity while enabling him to feel safe and secure in those new surroundings. We are totally in was of all the wonderful support given to Dad and us as a family.

The care my mother receives is first class - compassionate, professional, dignified and patient, always with good humour. The home is of a very high standard, well-kept, well-furnished and with spacious rooms. Activities are well-organised and every effort is made to accommodate residents' own interests.
The food is excellent, produced by a great team, again, catering where required for individual tastes and requirements. Having my mother there is a weight off our minds, knowing she is safe and cared for to a very high standard even during these difficult times when recruitment of care staff is so challenging. Well done and thank you to the whole team.

My parents are in their early 90’s. It was very difficult to find a care home that would suit both parents when one is living with dementia and the other had physical frailties. Barchester Red Oaks Care Home has welcomed both on the same floor with adjoining rooms. The nursing care they receive is discreet,
dignified, and above all, very kind. There are activities every day, and the staff have gone to great lengths to nurture and encourage each parent’s different skills and interests. They eat together in the lovely dining room, and my dad says it’s like being in a hotel. He loves taking his visitors to the in-house cafe. My mother appreciates being surrounded by beautiful grounds. Adjusting to being cared for after being independent your whole life is not easy, but Red Oaks has done everything in its power to make the transition as smooth as possible. The rest of the family can now breathe easy knowing that both parents are safe, well cared for and together.
Reply from Linda Ryan, General Manager at Barchester Red Oaks Care HomeThank you very much for the comprehensive review; it is a pleasure to care for your parents, ensuring that they are together enjoying life at Red Oaks. The cafe area is always a great place for residents to bring visitors to enjoy the fresh coffee and cake.

It has been a very difficult year since my dear father's death in June 2021, and I am now catching up on the things I need to do. So this is really the first proper opportunity I have had to write a review. The manager and staff at Red Oaks looked after my father wonderfully in the last few weeks of
his life. Their kindness, care and patience I will never forget. For the first time in three years, I felt a wonderful sense of peace and trust with all the carers. Red Oaks is a very special place. Highly recommend.

From the time I arrived, I was given every consideration. Initially, I was a Red Oaks while a home care package was worked out. During this time it became clear to me that home care would not really be a feasible option. After several discussions with one of the staff I was reassured on m points also
I decided to stay at Red Oaks to end of life.

The lead up to Christmas is busy for everyone, so I was extremely impressed by the number and range of activities for residents throughout December. Red Oaks was tastefully decorated and welcoming, and all the staff were cheerful and helpful to residents and visitors alike, from the management team

Without a doubt, the Covid pandemic is adding a tremendous workload to all the staff, but they continue to provide the best quality care that I could wish for my mother.

Mum moved into Red Oaks in the midst of the Pandemic, a challenging time for everyone. The whole team at Red Oaks have been so kind, both to mum and us her family. It's evident that the staff take their time to really get to know the residents as individuals. The atmosphere is upbeat and welcoming,
the grounds are lovely and residents are encouraged to enjoy them. I am grateful every day that mum is safe and well cared for.

My Dad was here for a 3-week respite as one of his Carers needed some time away. We found the staff at Red Oaks extremely helpful, very positive and most of all kind. I asked them to encourage my Dad to take part in activities which they did and feel this has been of great benefit to him. My Dad is
also insulin dependant diabetic and the nursing staff are very approachable and helpful so I knew he was in safe hands at all times. The food looked amazing too.

  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.907 for Barchester Red Oaks Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (197 Excellents x 5) + (16 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 215 Ratings = 4.907
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.95 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Red Oaks Care Home is based on 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.95
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 64 registered maximum number of service users is 12.8, which has been reached with 18 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I enjoy working at Red Oaks, I ensure that the home is well maintained and work with external contractors to ensure all equipment and the home itself is safe and fit for purpose. I enjoy chatting to the residents as I go around the home and it’s a lovely part of my job to build relationships not only my colleagues but with the residents in their home.

I have been working at Red Oaks for more than 9 years during which time I have worked in most departments. I get to meet with the families of potential residents who are seeking to find the right level of care for their relatives. I love showing our fantastic home to everyone who visits and I feel privileged to be able to offer help to families, in what is often, a very difficult and emotional decision.

Job Title: Care Practitioner Joined: 1990

I started work at Red Oaks 30 years ago. At the time I thought that I would stay for 6 months. I have had various roles over that time all care related and I have received a lot of training. I am a Care Practitioner and Head of the Unit on the Lavender floor which is one of our dementia floors.

I have had the privilege of meeting and caring for some truly amazing people. I love my job at Red Oaks with no two days ever being the same.

In 2017 I was nominated for the Barchester Care Awards and was very surprised and humbled to win the Lifetime Achievement in care award.
