Barchester Westlake House Care Home offers first class care and comfort in Horsham, West Sussex.

Located in a leafy rural countryside setting, yet local to picturesque and thriving Horsham Town Centre, Westlake is a warm, friendly and an inviting home, offering first-class 24-hour nursing and residential care in West Sussex.

Less than a five-minute drive to the nearest rail station, with plenty of local amenities on the doorstep, Westlake is proud of its beautifully maintained and nurtured gardens which both residents and visitors to the home can enjoy all year around. The home is also delighted to have received a 'Good' in their latest CQC inspection in July 2019.

A dedicated and experienced team are passionate about providing quality care that affords the best possible alternative for those who are no longer able to manage at home. Staff empower residents to regain independence, choice and freedom in their lives in a safe and comfortable setting.

Westlake has en-suite, fully furnished bedrooms which can be personalised, beautiful lounge areas with pretty views as well as elegant dining rooms in a relaxed atmosphere. A team of highly qualified and attentive staff really focus on the individual needs of residents with a bespoke care plan for each person.

Westlake House are delighted to be offering free Wi-Fi to residents and visitors. This allows residents more ways of keeping touch with their loved ones. Bedrooms are also set up with a Sky connection and phone line should you wish to make a private arrangement for this.

I had a good feeling from the way I was treated on my first visit to see the home and this proved to be correct. My mum settled in amazingly quickly, describing the staff as kind, caring and respectful. I also find the staff kind and helpful and I particularly appreciate the efforts made to allow me
to visit weekly, despite the Covid restrictions, through garden visits in the summer, then providing a ‘visiting pod’ before the weather got too cold, and introducing room visits as soon as they were allowed. Mum and I would both definitely recommend Barchester Westlake House.

My mother came to Westlake House as we were impressed with the whole package offered from the friendly staff who were all extremely helpful and caring. The team made my mother’s last days as comfortable as they could, the facilities offered and rooms are all impeccable with a wide choice and variety
of food, I would highly recommend.

Due to the current Covid-19 issues, I am unable to access the premises and give a potentially better result which I suspect may be the case to the ratings.
The ratings shown are from my observations via glazed screen and my initial entry into the premises before lockdown.

Mum was looked after with such care and kindness when she came out of hospital to convalesce at Westlake House after having had Coronavirus. The Manager and her team showed their professionalism, dedication and compassion when looking after Mum. Mum was able to make such good progress that she could

Mum has been a resident at Westlake House for 11 months now. Despite very challenging times for staff and family, the team at Westlake have given mum consistently high care for all her daily needs and welcomed her into their community at a time when it is difficult for family to be physically close.

A very difficult time to give a proper review, however, the staff are all trying hard under the circumstances. I do feel that it should be possible to allow some entertainment from outside. This could be with entry and exit from the garden and socially distanced. Half an hour for visits is also too

After due diligence, I picked Westlake for my elderly mum who needed nursing. I visited quite a few nursing homes before deciding on Westlake but as soon as I entered, my mind was made up. The welcome was fantastic. I was made to feel so welcome and could see that the staff were first class. Their attitudes,
commitment, desire to please their residents astounding. Unfortunately, mum passed away recently but right till the end they ensured she was treated like she was royalty...nothing was too much trouble.

My father went to Westlake House for end of life care and passed away peacefully there. The care and caregivers ensured that he died in peace, comfortable and with great dignity. The kindness and respect they afforded my father was astonishing. The people who work there light up the days for the residents
with kindness, humour and excellent personal and medical care.
The nursing staff and carers are well trained medically and in interacting with the patients. The home is attractively decorated and has a calm and peaceful atmosphere. There are many activities for those that want to and can participate. They put on a fun musical Christmas show this year. The food at first left something to be desired but has improved considerably. All homemade and the soups and desserts are excellent. Wine and beer are offered at lunch and the residents assemble in the lovely dining room and eat together if they want to.

Why, when water is changed twice daily in the room is the drinking glass not changed? It can stay for re-use for days! As one of the few 'independent' temporary residents, might I suggest that we are provided with a booklet to explain every system? I have been left doing the wrong thing before someone
bothered to put me right! Not quite the best approach.

The staff are amazing, so caring, friendly and patient. I can't fault them. Definitely recommend the care home from this aspect. I found the food very hit and miss: mashed potatoes - a disgrace; very, very small portions for me. Steak and Kidney pie - delicious but so small. Perhaps offer double portions
for the less frail user?

My mother lived at Westlake House from February to November 2019. She passed away there and the staff could not have been kinder, both to my mother and her relatives. Whenever I visited her, everyone was very welcoming and helpful and Mum was obviously very well cared for. It wasn't an easy time as
her health was failing, but I knew she was in good hands and that made it easier. Thank you so much to you all.

My mother sadly died yesterday at Westlake House Care Home. She had suffered from a short illness. From the day we first viewed the home, until the end, they couldn't have done more. Their kindness, compassion, warmth and love in caring for Mum was matched only by their professionalism. All the staff
knew and looked after her as an individual and she felt totally safe and happy there. We are all so very grateful and thankful to have found you.

I am a General Registered Nurse with over 30 years’ experience working within the NHS and the Independent Sector. I joined Barchester as a Clinical Development Nurse in 2020 and continued to develop my managerial and clinical skills. I was proud to become the General Manager at Westlake House in 2024. I bring a wealth of experience and knowledge with me from my time as a nurse and supporting and training care and nursing teams. At Westlake House we are dedicated in delivering kind, caring and holistic care. Person centred care is at the heart of everything my team and I will provide for you. We will take the time to get you know you and deliver a first class service. I am passionate about working closely with my team to continue to grow their skills and the wonderful care and support they offer to all the residents as well as to each other.

I began my nursing career in Italy and chose to pursue my passion further in the UK.


I have a strong background in providing care to a diverse range of residents' needs and I understand the challenges that they may encounter in day-to-day life. I have been a chef with Barchester since June 2000 and have lead the chef and hospitality team here at Westlake House since April 2025. I have a passion for patisserie and all foods and love to try new ideas and menus. I am so proud of our team, we really do provide an outstanding quality food and we meet with residents regularly to ensure our menu reflects their favourite food’s. I love meeting and getting know our residents and their loved ones and cooking them their favourite meals. I have a passion for home grown and locally sourced produce, and I am very proud of the kitchen garden we have here at Westlake House.

Before my position at Westlake, I was a Maintenance Manager at a local airfield, and I am looking forward to taking the maintenance position to great heights here.


My role means that every day is different; one-minute l am a plumber, then next an electrician, then a painter & decorator – just to name a few of the things l do!
I enjoy all the discussions that I have with the residents here at Westlake and every day they teach me something different. I enjoy working alongside and discussing with residents the different ways to do things.

I joined the Barchester family in November 2024 and have instantly felt welcome and supported. As an activity coordinator, I am passionate about getting to know our residents and delivering person-centred care and activities to all residents, an approach supported by a holistic, whole-home view.


I have been in a Care support role since 2019 and an Activity Coordinator since 2020. I love that my role brings laughter and joy to others. It is so wonderful seeing people engaging in an activity they enjoy and interacting with each other. I am very passionate about Intergenerational projects, as something magical happens when old and young get together.

Job Title: Maintenance Officer Joined: 2019

After 20 years as a Customer Services Manager for a local Housing Association once taking voluntary redundancy I decided on a complete career change. I took a minibus driving course, brushed up my DIY skills and became a Maintenance Assistant.


Now there is no greater job satisfaction than as part of the Westlake Maintenance Team giving the best possible customer service we can to our residents, fixing whatever needs to be fixed and sharing the experiences as we go out on one of our regular trips in the minibus.


Making a difference during their stay with us is what it is all about and getting to know the residents and their families and learning about their varied and amazing lives makes the job all the more enjoyable.

Sheila Elliott

Job Title: Residents Representative Joined: 2023

Sheila Elliott is our new Resident Representative at Westlake House.


She has been selected by our residents as well as staff to take on the role of our Residents' Representative. This position within the home is one of many responsibilities. Sheila will work alongside the residents as their trusted confidant. All topics of improvement, worries, complaints and praises within the home will be handed over to Sheila, where it will then be mentioned in our monthly Residents and Relatives meeting that is held every first Monday of the month.


We look forward to working with Sheila to improve all aspects of life at Westlake House.

My name is Florica Negrean, and I joined Barchester Healthcare in 2022 as a Senior Carer. I have worked in residential care for many years, and I really enjoy getting to know residents and finding out about them and their lives.


I have been one of the Speak Up Champions at Westlake House since 2023. I am very passionate about my role and ensuring that our residents and staff all feel safe and happy.

My name is Kerry, and I am a Carer and the Dementia Champion at Westlake House. I have been at Westlake since 2022. I am very passionate about my role and delivering the highest quality care for our wonderful residents. My role as Dementia Champion allows me to be a voice for our residents and provides me with the knowledge and training to best support our residents and their families.


I am currently working towards my NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care and am enjoying using my years of experience to further my education.

Job Title: Senior Registered Nurse Joined: 2022

I was born in a small village in Zimbabwe called Ntabazinduna ( mountain of the chiefs), on the outskirts of Bulawayo.
Our house was a stone's throw from the main government hospital called Mpilo - meaning Health.
I always loved to see doctors and nurses go in and out of the hospital, but I never thought I would be a nurse one day.
I came to the UK in November 1999. I began working in Westlake House in 2002 for 6 months and came back in 2004 until 2019. Now l’m back again after a 3-year absence.
Westlake has always felt like my hometown to me. Wherever I’ve been, l always wished to come back home to Westlake House. What a great Home, a great team and supportive management.
There is no place like Westlake House; our residents, relatives and visitors all echo the same sentiments.
When l do retire, l will be forever grateful for having been part of this fine establishment and having had the opportunity to fulfil my childhood dream.
