My father went to Westlake House for end of life care and passed away peacefully there. The care and caregivers ensured that he died in peace, comfortable and with great dignity. The kindness and respect they afforded my father was astonishing. The people who work there light up the days for the residents with kindness, humour and excellent personal and medical care.
The nursing staff and carers are well trained medically and in interacting with the patients. The home is attractively decorated and has a calm and peaceful atmosphere. There are many activities for those that want to and can participate. They put on a fun musical Christmas show this year. The food at first left something to be desired but has improved considerably. All homemade and the soups and desserts are excellent. Wine and beer are offered at lunch and the residents assemble in the lovely dining room and eat together if they want to.

Why, when water is changed twice daily in the room is the drinking glass not changed? It can stay for re-use for days! As one of the few 'independent' temporary residents, might I suggest that we are provided with a booklet to explain every system? I have been left doing the wrong thing before...

The staff at Westlake are all very caring but I feel the house is extremely understaffed as the residents are left long periods of time waiting for staff to wash and dress them or take them to and from activities. I visited my mother 5 times in a 2 week period and witnessed this first hand. I came in at 11 am to find my mother had only just been showered. Her hair was still wet. I blow-dried it for her myself. We were half an hour late to a musical activity. We also had to wait over half an hour when going to a garden centre for residents that hadn't been got ready.

I find all the staff are very helpful. The nurses are excellent. The premises at Westlake and their gardens are very good and afternoon tea and cakes are very nice. The car park is a decent size and most times a parking space is available.

My sister was welcomed very well by all the staff. Lovely, bright and furnished rooms. A very calm tranquil and friendly home. Lovely outdoor seating areas and pretty gardens. So far so good thank you all. Also a good variety of activities.

My mum has been here for about three months. I have been visiting her for the last few days, as I live overseas. The home seems to be well run and staff are attentive. I have eaten the food myself and it is so well cooked and presented. Mum seems as happy as she can be.

Mum has been in Westlake since the beginning of April.
The staff were amazing when she came in, really helping her to settle in and feel happy in her "new room".

She is now settled and relatively happy (everything about the staff is good - less happy about her own self and her deterioration)....

Hi, my name is Sarah, and I am the General Manager here at Westlake House. Welcome to our website!My passion for working with older people in a nursing home environment started after completing an internship with the NHS in 2014, working in mental health services, specifically dementia. Since 2014, I have worked in a variety of social care roles, including nursing, residential and dementia homes as a Registered Manager and an Area Manager within a large disability Trust.
At present, I am completing a Professional Doctorate in social sciences, exploring the experiences and perceptions of providing person-centred dementia care within care and nursing homes in the UK with the aim of understanding how we can further improve patient care.

After 20 years as a Customer Services Manager for a local Housing Association once taking voluntary redundancy I decided on a complete career change. I took a minibus driving course, brushed up my DIY skills and became a Maintenance Assistant.
Now there is no greater job satisfaction than as part of the Westlake Maintenance Team giving the best possible customer service we can to our residents, fixing whatever needs to be fixed and sharing the experiences as we go out on one of our regular trips in the minibus.
Making a difference during their stay with us is what it is all about and getting to know the residents and their families and learning about their varied and amazing lives makes the job all the more enjoyable.

I have been in a Care support role since 2019 and an Activity Coordinator since 2020. I love that my role brings laughter and joy to others. It is so wonderful seeing people engaging in an activity they enjoy and interacting with each other. I am very passionate about Intergenerational projects, as something magical happens when old and young get together.
