Etheldred House is a purpose-built care home, providing nursing and residential person-centred care to adults aged 65+ including those living with dementia.

The care home, which offers long term and respite care is situated in the village of Histon with good access to local shops and a library. Cambridge city centre is five miles away.

Etheldred House is divided into four houses over two floors, Apple, Pear, Cherry and Strawberry, each with its own communal lounge, dining area, kitchenette and bathroom facilities.

All bedrooms are single occupancy with en-suite facilities. The upper floor is accessed by stairs or a lift.

Other facilities at Etheldred House include a café and a children's play room.

Mum has been a member of the Etheldred family for some time now and I am reassured to know how well she is looked after. The staff are friendly and caring and although the pandemic has made things very difficult for all, the staff have all kept smiling and continued to deliver a high level of care throughout.
It is a comfort to know she is cared for and respected as dementia takes her further from me.

Mum is very happy at Etheldred House and the staff have been wonderful to her and to us. Everyone is so kind, helpful, and dedicated to their work. The challenges over the past 2 years, presented by the pandemic, have been extraordinary and the Etheldred team has managed a path through this that has
kept mum safe and content. Equally, we have always been assured that she is in good hands. Despite the pandemic, mum has made a tremendous improvement during her time in the home, and personally, I am really thankful to everyone on the Etheldred team that has made this possible.

My father has been in Etheldred for 4 years now and the care he continues to receive is excellent. The carers are kind, friendly, and very good at their jobs and I am indebted to them for what they have done for my father. Management is very efficient but, more importantly, they are compassionate. It
is to their credit that Etheldred has not suffered the same tragic fate of so many care homes through the pandemic, and despite the difficulties facing care homes, they have maintained their high standards.

The staff at Etheldred have been consistently excellent during this trying time. Despite the pandemic, they have done their best to make Dad feel he is a part of the Etheldred "family". They are always courteous when you phone and seem to know both Dad and me by voice alone! I feel a part of the family
too!

The staff and management at Etheldred are outstanding. My father lived in Pear House before he passed away and received wonderful care. However, my mother has now been cared for in Cherry House for the last 11 years and I have always had the confidence that she is loved and respected by all. The home
work tirelessly to entertain, keep interests high with endless activities, celebrations of birthdays, Easter, Valentine’s, etc. I don’t know where they get their energy from. If anyone is considering Etheldred for a family member I cannot recommend highly enough. With the manager at the helm, you can be assured that they will care and love them 100%. My thanks go to every member of staff for caring for Mum and Dad.

The staff at Etheldred have been endlessly patient with my mother as she has become increasingly frail and sad. They have done their best to encourage her to get up and build up her strength. It has been a difficult time for the care sector and Etheldred’s management and staff have done their very best
to maintain standards and keep the residents safe and well. I can only express my admiration and gratitude to them all.

My mother was looked after so well by all the wonderful carers at Etheldred. She enjoyed her time there due to all the loving support and entertainment provided by the staff.

Very well run home with very good, friendly staff.
Clean and tidy and looks well organised.
Has lots of activities for the residents.
Food is of a very high standard.
Could do with air conditioning throughout, as the building is very hot.

Etheldred House is an exceptional care home. Relatives are involved fully in the care delivered, and the management and staff treat their residents as if they were family - this can be clearly seen in the interactions, and reactions, between staff and loved ones.
Even in challenging situations, Etheldred
House responds positively and are not phased by anything that comes their way. Their excellent management of the home during the global pandemic was so reassuring, and the success of this management is reflected in the extremely low number of positive cases and lack of spread. Our loved ones were kept safe for us when we could not be there ourselves. I cannot recommend Etheldred care home highly enough.

Etheldred is a home full of incredibly committed, caring staff who often go "the extra mile" for people who depend on them to make a difference.
My mum was placed at Etheldred during the start of the pandemic; the all-around care she receives has been wonderful. The staff know her as a person who
is compassionate, understanding, and fun. The support and reassurance myself and my family receive are always there.

My mum and dad have been residents of Etheldred Care Home for the past year. The home has managed Covid very carefully to keep the residents safe. The whole team communicates with the families very well, including the excellent care home manager as well as the carers and nurses. They call me to let
me know of any developments. They are flexible to make changes to the care programmes to keep Mum and Dad comfortable. The food is home-cooked and has a good variety of choices with a daily menu.
I am happy to recommend Etheldred as a leading care home.

When my mother could no longer cope with caring for my 92-year-old father (with dementia) at the start of the first lockdown, I was very lucky to get him admitted very quickly into Etheldred House. Although he only lived a further 3-weeks, he was looked after by very caring and attentive people who
dealt with his illness with real compassion, meaning that my mother had peace of mind. In January 2021, my mother decided that her immobility meant she was no longer safe at home alone, and she too wanted to come to Etheldred. It is a great comfort to me to hear her talk about the staff in glowing terms and to know that she is happy and well looked after, and even better now that I can come and visit and take her out!

My mother was admitted last year at the beginning of the first lockdown as she had a fall at home and had been hospitalised. It took her a little while to accept it was the best place for her, but with the help of the friendly and caring staff, she soon settled in. We are kept informed of any medical
problems that occur and have peace of mind that she is being looked after. The home has been very helpful in allowing safe visits throughout the pandemic. They have kept all their residents safe from the pandemic and have followed all the rules laid down by public health.

The care home staff have been amazing with our father since he moved in. The staff all treat him with care and respect and keep us informed of all aspects of his care. It is a weight off our minds. Everyone at Etheldred House are amazing. The care and love (yes love!) that goes into what they do every single day. I was so impressed with them before Covid but what they have done during covid is exceptional. Hardly any cases in the residents speaks volumes, they have handled everything in an outstanding
manner. So very pleased my mum is at Etheldred. An amazing place.

My wife, was cared for in the Dementia Nursing Wing of Etheldred house for the last five weeks of her life after our live-in carer and I just couldn't cope caring at home any more.


The care of my wife was first-rate. Extremely professional but also very compassionate.


The nurses and carers on

duty were always extremely attentive. Nothing was too much trouble.


In addition the support given to me in very difficult circumstances was superb.


As a family, we count ourselves very fortunate to have got a place at short notice in this excellent nursing home.


I have no hesitation at all in recommending it.

Enrica became the Care Manager at Etheldred House in November 2008 and is a Registered General Nurse.
